Starcraft RPG: Who would be interested?

Don't buy that new computer just yet. No release date has been announced, and most of the major sites I've seen are guessing 2009 at the earliest.

    Why Worldbuilding is Bad

Your (unintentionally comedic) summaries of whose words are doing what aren't really helping your position.

Classical Tales of Deals with the Devil

It's a pretty common storytelling structure. Raistlin's deal with Fistandantilus also fits.

Which ENWorlder Would You Want to Meet?

Just watch out for Sean. If he and Anti-Sean are ever in the same place at the same time...

Which ENWorlder Would You Want to Meet?

Who says playing D&D doesn't turn you into a sociopath?

Which ENWorlder Would You Want to Meet?

I'm sure nearly all ENWorlders would get along with one another in person, no matter how passionate their disagreements might be online. That said, the three people I'd go out of my way to meet, if we happened to be in the same place at the same time, are shilsen, Akrasia and eyebeams.

    Dragonlance: Our LotR?

There's little concensus at the academic level anyway, at least style-wise--especially among active writers and readers of contemporary fiction. In fact, if you could persuade a dozen academics to compare LotR and DL stylistically, plenty of them would side with DL on aesthetic grounds. The...

    Why Worldbuilding is Bad

People have been arguing about metaplot--in Dragonlance, in Forgotten Realms, in the World of Darkness--for as long as I can remember. So there are, at the least, a lot of folks who think that some published RPG settings do in fact dictate plot. These people may not be entirely right, but...

[Venting] I feel a bit dirty...

You're at least aware of the problem here, even if you've choosen not to address it, right?

[Scoop?] Libris Mortis: The Book of the Undead, from WotC

You're absolutely right. It's cool how I noted that the adjective needed to be used substantively, then proceeded to put it into agreement with a noun anyway :heh:. The genitive in this case is descriptive though, not possessive. Now that I think about it, I'd bet that there's precedent for...

[Scoop?] Libris Mortis: The Book of the Undead, from WotC

You would want the adjective mortuus (albeit substantively used), not the noun mors (so libris mortuis, not libris mortis), but yeah, it's close enough that you could probably find something similar in an actual text were you inclined to look.

    RIP: Good Music Albums

Pretty much everything Muse puts out is worth a listen. Kensrue's Please Come Home is great; so is Frank Turner's acoustic album, Sleep Is for the Week. Some other favorites from the past few years: Million Dead - Harmony No Harmony (Frank Turner's old band) Dredg - Catch Without Arms Cat Power...

Rome - Season 2. Starts tonight!

Heh, yeah. What the hell was Hermann Broch thinking when he wrote The Death of Virgil? Shakespeare is probably the most important, if not the best, of all English dramatists, but writers adapt other writers all the time (the idea that one "improves" on another, or that one would even attempt...

Rome - Season 2. Starts tonight!

I thought they might adapt Shakespeare's version, actually. "Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is an honorable man." I can just imagine the sarcasm in James Purefoy's delivery--that speech would've been perfect for his Antony. Or they could've gone with the historically accurate...

The Golden Raspberries -- Snakes On a Plane was robbed!

What about regular people? Whether you're looking at rottentomatoes or imdb, Lady didn't go over very well. There are worse movies out there, but Lady certainly isn't above being nominated for a Razzie.

    New 300 trailer

You, sir, smoke the crack. I'm still trying to decide whether this is going to be 100 or 1000 times better than LotR.

Rome - Season 2. Starts tonight!

I know... it's a shame the show is prohibitively expensive to produce. I'm all for a limited run that knows from the start exactly where it's going and ends there, rather than continuing on into a posthumous existence, but I think Rome has material for 3 very fully seasons, if not 4 (with more...

This is the last season. Ach, I can't believe they skipped the speeches.

    Moorcock blasts Tolkien

Stylistically, Ulysses isn't dated, despite being written 15-30 years earlier than The Hobbit (even longer before LotR). My point is that Tolkien's stilted writing is only becoming farther and farther removed from what ordinary people are going to be willing to put up with. Of the 50 students I...

    Moorcock blasts Tolkien

Of course you can, if you look hard enough, find people frothing at the mouth over it, just like you can rummage around these forums and find people frothing at the mouth over the success of Pokemon or the failure of Farscape. But the truth is that all this talk of critical outrage is spin, or...
