    Your favourite novel series

For F/SF, it's Dune, hands down. I love the elements of Greek tragedy. In general though, Kundera's books (they are a sort of series, thematically), and Rilke's The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge.

    New Rant Posted

I don't like D&D's alignment system because it is logically inconsistent. It's that old Socratic dilemma: is the good good because the gods approve it, or do they approve it because it's the good? (Leaving law/chaos out of it). In D&D, the existence of evil gods pretty much precludes the...

Northern California Game Day (Any DMs out there?)

Yeah, it's over behind the Century (I think) theaters near Arden.

Get your grades up and apply to Berkeley. Nowhere else compares ;) .

    I cast "Raise Dead Film"

Yeah, although for some reason I've never much cared for Pulp Fiction. Much love for Mr. Pink though :p . So I went to Borders to day and grabbed Donnie Darko for $12, only $1 more than Amazon, and no waiting for delivery. Anybody who hasn't seen this movie should definitely give it a spin...

    I cast "Raise Dead Film"

Not a fan of Friday eh? Shame. I'll assume there are no Half-Baked or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas fans here either then ;) . Tell me I'm wrong, pleeeassee. EDIT: Oh, and Mallrats is by far my favorite Kevin Smith film. I've probably seen it about 40-50 times. Brody was my hero when I...

Northern California Game Day (Any DMs out there?)

Sac as well, most of the time, and 22. I would have to relearn non-extensively-houseruled-to-all-hell-3rd-edition-D&D to play though, and I remember 2nd edition better :p .

The other side of film dissonance...

The theory is there, same as for Literature in general, although from what I know film schools have taken (maybe still do take) a position for some reason centered on Lacan. That, and I suppose the nature of Hollywood, has led to a decided vacany in film criticism of figures like Harold Bloom...

The other side of film dissonance...

I like the American Pie flicks, but probably only because I've been to band camp ;)

Steven Dorf can do no wrong! S.F.W. and Entropy (and of course Blade) are also awesome!

Armour Dilemma: Am I Wrong Here?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ? Of course you hadn't directed any comments at me.. that was my first post to the thread! But look at your comments to other people and the amount of backpeddling or just plain misrepresenting you do. Either you have great...

Armour Dilemma: Am I Wrong Here?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ? Frankly, your actual quotes can be confusing. But what's more important, the way to point out bad reasoning is to break it down into propositions and get rid of the rhetoric. However, the question was 'what's with the attitude?' so in...

Armour Dilemma: Am I Wrong Here?

I have, though surely not as closely as I would an essay of Barthes'. What leads you to believe that the way the encounter played out (aside from the fraidy cats) was not how it was designed to? The vampires are effecting an escape. Spells were thrown; commotion was caused. How is this...

The other side of film dissonance...

I liked The Majestic, but maybe only because of the ragtime. Villano, I got your back. I'm not a fan of either LotR movie, which doesn't entirely surprise me since I was not a fan of the books. I can, however, stand them. I got through them, after all. I have a strange infatuation with...

Armour Dilemma: Am I Wrong Here?

That comes with being accused of breaking the rules. Fusangite didn't start off with this tact in mind. This seems to be a theme with his detractors: they accuse him of something, he explains how the accusation is false; he is then endlessly flamed for touting his virtues, when he has really...

    I cast "Raise Dead Film"

I definitely recommend them, if you're into movies with no clear plot, or beginning or ending, or movies that don't, umm, make sense :) . But hey if you can wade through Waking Life then give these a go; they're just more random, violent, and full of drugs and wierd sexual themes. You'll be...

Armour Dilemma: Am I Wrong Here?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ? You get what you give. So far I have seen two responses from you: Numion: My position/argument is X. Me: I think X is wrong because Y. Numion: No no and no. Thankyou for missing the point. Good one! That sure countered me! And: Numion...

    I cast "Raise Dead Film"

Let's see. I really liked Disturbing Behavior (came out early in highschool so was around the time of reading Vonnegut). I know that one got a lot of grief. Big fan of The Beach (no idea how well recieved it was; I refused to watch any Leo movies after Titanic, only happened on it later by...

    Movie "Druids" w/ Chris Lambert......

 No love for QUEEN?!?! Highlander's one of those movies that got made a decade or two too soon. Widen should've let the concepts roll over his pallette for a while, but I guess he wrote it as a project while still in film school so.. oh well.

Armour Dilemma: Am I Wrong Here?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ? You don't have to be stupid or foolish (I don't think you are; from your posts in other threads we have similar taste in many things, therefore I think you're bright and smartish :) ), and since it's not a game where we're competing, chances...
