Ever been tempted to forbid something for a silly reason?

Followed shortly by the heads of the characters. Khorne is a god of rage. Naturally, he's going to have a name that's easy to make fun of so he has a reason to direct his rage at you. The name is schmuck bait.

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's Read: Volo's Monsters

I love the maws. Place one at the bottom of a pit trap right at an ambush spot and watch as the party loses both melee fighters in the first round. One to the pit trap and maw, one to the ambush that intentionally drew them in.

Unearthed Arcana What's in YOUR Unearthed Arcana?

You can pretty much build Elsa now, using what's been released. The idea of someone that inherently connected to weather would be easily reflavored from the option in SCAG. *casts Vengeful Gaze of God on* *Mantra* There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'I need a short rest.'

    I'm young but I play d&d

The best piece of advice I can give: Pay close attention to your mistakes, and try your best to learn the group dynamic. And, yes, you will make mistakes. We all do. If you accidentally cause a TPK or send the campaign so far off the rails that land requires a satellite to find, don't beat...

    Benefits of playing D&D

They destroyed a city and a good portion of the surrounding countryside. Well, technically, the volcano destroyed the city. They just used the bag of holding and the portable hole as a bomb to remove the magical artifact keeping the volcano from erupting. The rope and decanter simply acted as a...

    D&D 5E (2014) CHALLENGE: Change one thing about 5e

There's not enough rock and pop in this setting. Yes, just imagine it. Dwarven glam rockers, elven punk rockers, drow pop stars, orc rappers... There's no end to the amount of music we could add! And the art... The art alone would draw people to look at the books!

    D&D 5E (2014) You find a magical _____, it does _____

Well, since I got skipped last time I posted... The Tea Set of Harmony This tea set was created by an ancient elven diplomat, name long lost to history, who first established diplomatic relations between their nation of elves and early humans. If a character uses this tea set to brew any kind...

    D&D 5E (2014) You find a magical _____, it does _____

The Stocking of Plenty This stocking will, each day, make enough food to feed one person for one day... but it's all cheese. Incredibly foul-smelling cheese. The character can survive on this, but must make a save each time they go to eat to avoid nausea from the smell. Next item: A romance novel

What do the PCs find in a City of the Jann?

Have you considered the fashion of the city? I could imagine that an elemental race like the Jann might use pure elements for things such as clothing and construction. Imagine a dress made entirely out of woven fire or a house built entirely out of elemental earth.

    D&D 5E (2014) UA Primeval Awareness Hysteria

"I have orcs as my favored enemy... How many are within range." "Seven thousand." "Holy crap! How did so many sneak into the city?!?" "They didn't. The city's been hiring them as guards, soldiers, and laborers."

    D&D 5E (2014) UA Primeval Awareness Hysteria

"I use Primeval Awareness! How many favored enemies are within range?" "46." "Why so many? Are you trying to TPK us?" "You're in a kobold den. At least half of them are children." So many ways to use abilities like this to mess with the players...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragging a fallen comrade to 'safety' isn't safe

Get the caster and archer focused on them while you drag your buddy away. When they're taking arrows and magic missiles, they're not likely to care about the person who appears to be just trying to get out of the way.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you care about setting "canon"?

At this point, I think we've been arguing on something where I think we both actually agree on the total point, but disagree on the particular argument I used. In which case, I'm going to have to go ahead and bow out. I am arguing out of pure stubbornness at this point.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you care about setting "canon"?

It's a beta test. Not a final product. As in, they just then got around to testing the mechanics to see if they fit within 5E, as opposed to testing that while writing the game mechanics. The fact they've not taken it any farther than that in the time since should say a lot about how well it went.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you care about setting "canon"?

Eberron has not changed lore across editions, and I cited it in the second post. Your interpretation of my posts is disproven by that. Edit: This may help. It comes down to the differences between a static setting and a dynamic setting. A static setting is like 1920s Call of Cthulhu; it...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you care about setting "canon"?

Not just that setting, but correct enough. Eberron was still officially converted to 4E. The setting may not have been the official setting of 4E, but it also wasn't massively invalidated by that edition like it is with 5E. And my claim is that game mechanics are held in higher regard than...

D&D 5E (2014) General feelings about new UA archetypes

I feel the design decision to have archetypes start off at later levels for some classes is reflective of the "zero to hero" design build for the game. I mean, obviously, you can't do that for all classes (someone who is part dragon is probably going to be that way from birth), but in general it...
