D&D and the Two Sides of Escapism

First, Dr. Stenseng's assertion that "escapism for the purpose of avoiding a problem is self-destructive", fails on a well-known psychological principle; that is, that forcing someone to confront something before they are ready can itself be destructive. In short, his assertion seems something...

"He was brought across in twelve twenty-eight. Preyed on humans for their blood. Now he seeks to become mortal again. To repay society for his sins. To leave behind his world of darkness. His endless...forever night." The sets ranged from good to sad, the special effects sometimes wrapped...

I would recommend a "better face" mod of some kind. Now, I am not saying that the inhabitants of Cyrodiil are descended from Mr. Potato Head... ...But there certainly is some "family resemblance". ;)

I pledged that the "dead monkey sketch" would be the worst joke I told on here. Well, have no fear, people! This one is much cleverer! A couple, husband and wife, are in the hospital having a checkup on the pregnant wife. All seems well; before they leave, the doctor offers an experimental...

That is about three times the average mass eaten by the average USA citizen in one day, according to a quick internet search. In one single type of food. No matter what it is, that will probably kill you. It is simply a matter of faster or slower.

My own preference would be for more formats. However, that has to be balanced against negative reviews by people who expect a cheaply-made original to somehow experience a massive jump in quality due to ordering a "premium reprint." For example, the story of the Ouya console system. To sum up...

The weekly update was also 8 .pdfs instead of the usual 4, and 6 PoD. I hope that is a long-term acceleration of the schedule - According to the Google document on RPG.net, completion will take 2 years, 4 months at their usual rate of 4 .pdfs per week.

Not just the quality of the scanner - The scanned copy will likely be faded. Ideally, they would compose multiple scans to find a better one, but that has accuracy errors, too. To use an analogy, even if rolling 1d10, it takes a *lot* of rolls before you really get close to 95% accuracy on the...

    Theory crafting 'Contact Spirit' spell

I am sorry, your spell description was far too long to read. You are probably overthinking it. The spell text for contact other plane for comparison: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/contactOtherPlane.htm

I have seen EBay bids for items at those prices. Your guess may be a factor for some, but market forces are probably the reason for most. With stock in *decline, it is a definite sellers market. And while .pdfs are useful, tablets are slow and awkward to use unless you pay for a PC-equivalent...

Classic D&D of All Eras Back In Print

I feel sad for those people on E-Bay who will slowly see their sales of $40 books with $40 shipping bleed away to big-box stores like DrivethruRPG who offer low prices and low shipping. :D It is true, I do not look sad. But I'm sad on the inside. Truly. Would this face lie to you? :heh: Some...

    Why OD&D Is Still Relevant

The text seems clear enough to me. "OD&D is a framework; build the game you want from there." Edit: Underlining added by myself for emphasis.

OD&D OD&D Now In PDF on DnDClassics

The game is specifically and explicitly made to be modified and expanded. It does, indeed, say so in the rules; validating some things I have seen old-school gamers say. Happily, either adding weapon size modifiers to # of attacks, or damage, is an addition that would take about five minutes. :)

Look On The Light Side Of Life (And Fantasy Gaming)

Have you tried GURPS Lite? At 32 pages, it certainly doesn't seem heavy. There is also, and has been, considerable discussion on the GURPS forums as to more curated and less kitchen sink genre-specific versions of the rules than Characters and Campaigns. Something else that would help is a clear...
