Give them minions and all of those problems are solved. With 3e, or 3.5e, no "boss" monster should ever fight solo unless at least two levels above the party, minimum. And, of course, classed boss NPCs can give too-powerful equipment to the PCs.

If WotC opened all of their editions' contents to sale on Hero Lab/related software, there would likely be a buying frenzy. The ability to make a character for any edition using electronic software? Legally? That would be something I'd be willing to spend money on.

With a number of the early edition books being out on DnDClassics, have you considered the possibility of a published supplement? I have no idea of what legal issues there may be. You have quite a lot of tables, here, and a book of tables may seem like the next logical step.
