Look On The Light Side Of Life (And Fantasy Gaming)

Why Random Bystander likes rules-heavy, and simulationist: 1) The setting derives simply from the rules in play. For example, if character is hit with a certain amount and type of damage, they are evidently hit with a certain amount of force and/or energy. Crafting rules, combined with item...

Some Details About Chaosium's Runequest 4th Edition

I recently checked out the light version of BRP, and the rules seemed to make sense; the only possible absurdities I saw were in the low skill rolls and its potential handling of high-powered characters. The first can be fixed, if it is perceived as a problem, by giving more skill points to...

    Meet GF9's New D&D DRACOLICH!

No. I posted in a silly faux old man "accent" because my statement is intended to be taken entirely seriously. And in closing, I would like to say a few words, and here they are: Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Thank you.

    Meet GF9's New D&D DRACOLICH!

Well, listen here, kid. That there's a dracolich, which means it's made o' bone. An' that means it ain't no blue; it's bleached-pale bone. An' I don't see why I have to correc' their mis-stake by strippin' the paint off and puttin' little red dots on the eyes. Yahear?

    D&D 3.x First encounter with a 3.5E Beholder as a player

The anti-magic field is in a 90 degree cone in front of the beholder. The other three quadrants remain open to attack.

    Meet GF9's New D&D DRACOLICH!

...Question: Is that tutorial to re-paint it from the inexplicable blue?

D&D Goes to Work Part II: Professional Game Masters

Understood; and no problem. :) I hold little love for the attitude of "everything should be cheap/free." Oh, definitely. Most people will probably, at most, think $10/hr total, and not something more like $30-50/hr total. Statistics and math are two human weakpoints.

    Switch?

Never switch to a new edition just because it's a new edition. Switch to a new edition if it's a better edition for you. IMO, of course.

Has anyone played Crypts & Things?

The kickstarter seems to imply an end-of-year release date.

    D&D 3.x First encounter with a 3.5E Beholder as a player

Give them minions and all of those problems are solved. With 3e, or 3.5e, no "boss" monster should ever fight solo unless at least two levels above the party, minimum. And, of course, classed boss NPCs can give too-powerful equipment to the PCs.

D&D Goes to Work Part II: Professional Game Masters

$40 for popcorn, drink, and a movie ticket to a blockbuster movie, spread over a 4 hour gaming session; with 4 players, that totals $40/hour, which, perhaps, I should have included, instead of assuming it was implicit. I would certainly pay more than $10/hour for a medical professional. Or a...

    Pathfinder Is Coming To REALMWORKS

If WotC opened all of their editions' contents to sale on Hero Lab/related software, there would likely be a buying frenzy. The ability to make a character for any edition using electronic software? Legally? That would be something I'd be willing to spend money on.

D&D Goes to Work Part II: Professional Game Masters

I must admit, I am now seriously considering this from the opposite end. Would I be willing to pay a "professional-quality" GM to run a game? The answer, it seems, is "yes, if the GM is sufficiently skilled." It seems rather like, in some ways, hiring a professional author to write a short...

    Question about a feat

It is entirely true. Last time I had checked there was no such distinction. The fact that the last time I checked was some years ago, does not change the truthfulness of my statement. :p :) (My bad)

    Question about a feat

DanD wiki mixes balanced, unbalanced, official and homebrew with no distinction; or did, last I had checked. It must be noted, though, that the official 3.5 books did two of those things as well.

    AD&D 2E Recovering previously-bought PDFs of D&D Basic to 2E

I would check with DrivethruRPG. If you have any sort of proof of purchase, they should be able to restore your orders. Unfortunately, it's entirely possible that the order data for most of your orders was lost at some point; even professionals are subject to Wandering Data Damage.

    A question of personal style

Ok, what I'm getting from this is that you normally play social, "talky" characters, and you're now playing a "loner" who's good at killing. Of course, if I'm wrong, feel free to disregard this entire post. I think it may be the extrovert to introvert switch that's throwing you off. You may be...

    Random Encounter Tables

Have you considered stock art? The benefit is generally lower prices, while the downsides are generally lower quality, and lack of exclusivity. However, that is somewhat balanced by a large selection. DrivethruRPG, for example, has a stock art section under Publisher Resources. Alternately...

    Random Encounter Tables

With a number of the early edition books being out on DnDClassics, have you considered the possibility of a published supplement? I have no idea of what legal issues there may be. You have quite a lot of tables, here, and a book of tables may seem like the next logical step.

Tolerate != like. Edit: Apologies, that may have come across as hostile. It's not; it's simply the shortest number of syllables needed to make the point.
