    D&D 5E (2014) A Matter Of Initiative

I always go by initiative order rolled. In fact, I even adjust my narration based on the result so that it sounds reasonable. Paladin goes first, opens the door and the rolls lowest initiative? Well, he had a small shock when he saw the enemies behind. If you are going so far and change who...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you time your players in combat?

I'd rather just take away their cell phones.

    D&D 5E (2014) Crawford on Stealth

Yeah, but Skulker + Dim Light = Not seen clearly. The specific rule of the skulker feat overrides that rule, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Crawford on Stealth

There's no rule that says you can't hide while being observed. Plus the Skulker feat specifically allows you to attempt to hide as long as you are lightly obscured.

    D&D 5E (2014) Crawford on Stealth

Okay, I guess I'll allow it. I don't really see it as that powerful since most creatures have darkvision anyway and the ones who don't usually have light sources in their dungeons. And it's actually not more powerful than just using ranged attacks where hiding is much easier anyway.

D&D 5E (2014) Is D&D becoming TOO popular (More DMs Needed)?

In online play, I noticed the following: If you run one of the official adventure paths, then there is really a HUGE demand for DMs. I just need to post something like "I'm going to DM this official adventure path" and within a week, I'll already have like 30+ applications. So it definitely...

    D&D 5E (2014) Crawford on Stealth

Hey guys, one of my players brought up the following question: - Jeremy Crawford said that you can do melee attacks from hiding as long as you can attack from your hiding place. - If you have the Skulker feat you can try to hide even if you are just lightly obscured. - Consequently, if an enemy...

D&D 5E (2014) How do players know they are in the "wrong" location in a sandbox campaign?

For example PCs trying to go down in Sacred Stone Monastery after having visited Feathergale Spire: "As you descent the stairs, you can feel a powerful energy. It makes it hard for you to even breathe. You start seeing illusions. Water Hook PC has a vision of a cube standing next to a river and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Two vs. thousands

Peaceful solution? Might as well just cast suggestion and suggest you give them 5000gp for the hostages. You don't know what to do with all that money at level 18 anyway.

    D&D 5E (2014) Crawford on Stealth

Low passive perception: "You move through the hallway, you have a bad feeling." Good passive perception: "You move through the hallway, you notice some holes in the walls." Good active roll: "You notice that one of the plates on the floor has more dust on it than all the others." Very good...

    D&D 5E (2014) Crawford on Stealth

Every skill can be used passively, but passive perception works differently compared to all other passive values.

    D&D 5E (2014) Two vs. thousands

In a world where resurrection is a thing, I wonder if the hostages will be angry on you for first killing them by a meteor and then resurrecting them. Like, would they be ok with that?

    D&D 5E (2014) Crawford on Stealth

Actually, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that generally checking a room might reveal less information than checking something specific in a room. So what I think makes most sense is to apply passive perception to generally checking a room only.

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls Twitter Poll: "The druid gets one of the following: Spellcasting | Shapeshifting | Animal companions. Choose."

The druid player in my group pretty much only does shapeshifting most of the time anyway. Well okay, he also saved the day with some really useful spells from time to time. But going around as wolf to get advantage on perception or turning into some unnoticable animal to scout and not be noticed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Crawford on Stealth

Too bad this isn't in written form. Stealth is like the most important Sage Advice topic. But from the reply on forums, seems like it's nothing new for me. I always agreed with Jeremy on the stealth rules and still do. It's what I was always telling everyone here as well. Regarding the passive...

    D&D 5E (2014) Playing DnD on a forum - Rules and Suggestions

I almost exclusively DM by PbP. I have a large set of rules already collected which I'll paste below my post. Time limit in my games is always 22 hours after my last post. This ensures that we get at least one round (or turn in combat) done per day and gives me at least 2 hours time to prepare...

    D&D 5E (2014) Intelligence in resolving "Suggestion"

I don't really want to cheat like that. I'll just ask who wants a hint and then just tell those who want I guess. Anyway, how would you resolve that Suggestion spell? Go to person B or C?

    D&D 5E (2014) Intelligence in resolving "Suggestion"

The suggestion spell has long broken and those persons aren't NPCs that would willingly talk under normal circumstances. In fact, Person A is dead and Person B is currently trying to kill them. :p

    D&D 5E (2014) Intelligence in resolving "Suggestion"

Let's say someone casts Suggestion on Person A with the command "Bring me to Person C", but Person A knows that to get an audience with Person C he needs to ask Person B first, would he bring the caster to Person B or Person C? I decided for Person B, but now my group thinks that Person B is...
