Unearthed Arcana 5E Psionics Alert! The Mystic Is Back In Unearthed Arcana

I will note that if you take (choose from: order of avatar, order of the immortal, order of the nomad, order of the soul knife) + ( choose from: mantle of command, mantle of courage, adaptive body, bestial form, brute force, celerity, giant growth, intellect fortress, iron durability, nomadic...

D&D 5E (2014) What the warlord needs in 5e and how to make it happen.

Balance is stupid anyways! However Your buddy the rogue is going to get lots of benefit. Paladin buddy is going to run himself clean out of spell slots. Sadly, you can't trigger another bonus attack from anyone outside their turn.

There might be other options, but the fighter one specifies on his turn, and this one specifies on the mystics turn. So not as multi attack friendly as one might like.

Means special psi points can't be mixed with regular psi points. You can't spend 4 specials and 3 regulars to get to 7 for example.

Unearthed Arcana 5E Psionics Alert! The Mystic Is Back In Unearthed Arcana

One of the warlord fans checking in. That's very close to a warlord I'd play. I need to do it up, and I'm missing the joy of charging into melee combat with some effectiveness, but I can see it working. Soul knife and mantle of commander works. Order of the avatar works. I can flavor the psionic...

D&D 5E (2014) What the warlord needs in 5e and how to make it happen.

Apparently. I can probably live with that, but I'm not even though the article :) Edit: mmmm, that mantle of command is scratching a lot of itches.

D&D 5E (2014) The Dangers of Overreliance on Leomund's Tiny Hut (3rd Level Spell)

I'm fairly certain that this is an inaccuracy, because d&d characters don't have to eliminate waste. This only happened after The Great Cabal in its Shining Porcelain Chamber finally succumbed to the oppressive barrier that blocked all magic, thus preventing them from shunting everyone's waste...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you feel 5e pressures you to build strong over fun?

5e itself does not do that. It should not drive you towards optimization. It should, at best, require effort to be less that effective. No one likes trap choices. 5e has done a relatively solid job of making most of the options very good. Lots of very analytical optimizer sat my table, including...

D&D 5E (2014) Spells cast at higher level spell slots. Worth it?

I think mostly damage is compared because it is a tangible and concrete effect. It is really hard to measure the effectiveness of something like minor illusion or wall of fire or misty step. Those things don't have clear metrics, though all are arguably very good spells.

    D&D 5E (2014) New Spell: Umbral Bolt

I disagree. As it is, it is sunbeam, but multiple targets, minus the blind, but add the very useful aura ( especially with devil's sight or one with the shadows ). The wording is nearly identical to sunbeam, but it adds multi target, changes the damage to necrotic (comparable to radiant for...

D&D 5E (2014) The Dangers of Overreliance on Leomund's Tiny Hut (3rd Level Spell)

Last 10 minutes, ritual up another one right there. Good to go! Oh wait, oxygen running out is going to be an issue.

D&D 5E (2014) The Dangers of Overreliance on Leomund's Tiny Hut (3rd Level Spell)

We haven't even really started getting into it's utility for surviving lava flows or gas attacks if you have some warning. Or lahars or mudflows. Or, heck, floods. Also, I'll point out it's comfortable and dry, regardless of the weather outside, which implies that it's proof against weather...

    D&D 5E (2014) New Spell: Umbral Bolt

Looking at your reasoning and the spell - I think there should be a cost for duration multi-targeting. As you have it now, you are getting a very good sunbeam every round that hits multiple targets for no action or spell slot. Sure, they can't be blinded, but things close to you could end up...

D&D 5E (2014) Spells cast at higher level spell slots. Worth it?

I don't know that I'd phrase it quite like that, but I agree with the intent. It seems that below 3rd, you are not working with a full set of components. You can't get to "normal" or "baseline" area or range. It would not surprise me in the slightest if they decided that fireball was the...

D&D 5E (2014) Spells cast at higher level spell slots. Worth it?

Abi-dalzim's horrid wilting also maps pretty well. 30' cube is smaller than a 20' radius sphere, but the damage on 10d8 vs 13d6 is close. Abi's can't scale, but it doesn't really have anywhere to go. The volume difference could be fixed with Abi's being a 35' cube, but that would be weird. It...

D&D 5E (2014) What the warlord needs in 5e and how to make it happen.

Pretty sure you are right on that. There was a conscious decision to stop that, and I am somewhat sad. Also not sad too :)

D&D 5E (2014) What the warlord needs in 5e and how to make it happen.

I can tell you what it is for me - played it in 4e, was one of my favorite characters, if not my favorite. It has intricate and complex tools. It made full use of the action economy. It was highly team focused, and I am the guy who likes playing team focused characters. Highly tactical and...

D&D 5E (2014) Darts - Originally melee, or ranged originally strength?

same as myself ;) I go back and forth on it. there is some real joy there. But I also like 13th ages simplified system. Perhaps sometime I'll extract the weapon stuff out and make a realistic subsystem

D&D 5E (2014) Darts - Originally melee, or ranged originally strength?

They were there, they just didn't get a lot of screen time, as it were. Norse used spear and axe. Indeed, everyone used spear. D&D just does a poor job of modeling where they would be used for the most part. There is very little approach up to the clash, armor represents hard to hit and not...
