    D&D 4E Elementals and 4E: All Evil?

Pretty sure the elemental archon article explicitly said that old school elementals do exist.

So Wish wasn't abolished, after all...

Given that "Immortal" seems to be a subtype modifier that can be attached to humanoids, wishing for immorality is probably the system is designed to handle. I expect that "Immortal" is the endpoint for a lot of Epic Destinies.

How I Stopped Worrying and Learned To Love Standard Plusses

I have to disagree. At 11th level, you get to start picking feats (and most likely powers) from a new (and better) list. At 11th level you get to start taking paragon paths. The ability to use a type of magic item you couldn't master before sounds like more of the same. It's like moving form...

    Beguiler vs. themed Wizard?

I've been playing a Beguiler for a while. They do in fact get a few spells that are not illusions or enchantments. Not a lot, but enough that they can do some party buffing and/or battlefield control even when enchantment and illusion aren't of any use. Beguiler pros: You probably have...

Have you ever created a workable lawful evil or neutral evil country?

I've always been unclear on how a nation can be considered as having an alignment at all. Individual people can have alignments. Rulers can have alignments. You could say that X% of people in this nation are alignment Y. But what does it even mean to say that a nation has an alignment? When...

    The Ethics of the Paladin

My view is that I'm playing 3.5, and in this edition the paladin class is no more powerful than any other class. Consequently, the paladin code is all fluff and not some kind of balancing system to put on roleplaying restrictions in return for cool powers. Therefore, I as a player ought to be...

    Currency in a POL setting

Here's my take (which might change in 3E). You know how creating magic items supposedly costs so many "gold pieces" worth of material to create? Some of that is based around buying special material components, but precious metals can also be used as literal fuel for permanent magic. Platinum...

New FR Dragon Article: The Wailing Dwarf. Reveals some new crunch.

Unless it turns out that the statue is actually a giant magical mecha, and the control crystal is what the nagas are eternally guarding. Mile high golems are cool.

    Building a beguiler Zhentarim spy

For a Beguiler 5/Mindbender 1 Maxed ranks in Bluff - 9 skill points Glibness spell cast on self - 1 third level spell slot Using telepathy + bluff to tell a target, "This is your god speaking. I will test your faith! Empty your pockets of all worldly possessions and walk out onto the waters...

[Age of Worms] Champion's Belt Thoughts

To be honest, we kind of shrugged our shoulders and said, "If that's what the adventure module is built around, we'll rationalize IC reasons to do it." My paladin of St. Cuthbert paid a visit to the local church and they seemed okay with the idea, so I figured I was in the clear. Paladin's...

[Age of Worms] Champion's Belt Thoughts

When we hit the cleric, he ran out and promptly got grappled by the psion's Astral Construct. Complete shut-down. He got the chance to cast one Blindness spell, which didn't succeed. (He had an anti-life shell up, but it doesn't work on astral constructs.) To be fair, we were getting a lot...

[Age of Worms] Champion's Belt Thoughts

Don't read this is you want to be unspoiled for the Champion's Belt module in the Age of Worms adventure path. . . . . . . . We finished Champion's Belt last Friday, and I have to say that we blew through every encounter. Most of the fights lasted about two rounds. The DM was pretty much...

Wizard's Presents: Worlds and Monsters - Info on new and old settings?

3.5 Disintegrate is actually "save or take a lot of hitpoint damage which might cause you to die". That seems oretty much in line with 4E's design philosophy.

Locations Mentioned in Races & Classes

My favorite Fafhrd and Grey Mouser story is "Stardock", where the two adventurers climb a massive mountain (so big that they have to climb a couple of lesser mountains just to get to the base). It has some fighting and adventures against human antagonists along the way, but the tensest moments...

    Magical Detective

I don't think a Warlock will help much on the "detective" end of it. I'd recommend a psion Seer. They get Gather Information, Listen, and Spot on their class skill list in addition to all Knowledges. Many of their low level powers are incredibly useful for information gathering. Check out...

    D&D 4E Flying in 4e

A problem so common I can't believe they won't address it. The obvious solution is to take what you just said and make it true. Anything you use to fly, its hitpoints are your hitpoints. It can't be taken down until you're taken down.

How would you interrogate an artifact battleaxe?

Not sure in the slightest! :) However, we did have good luck in negotiating with his herald Loji. (Anarchic paragon polar bear.) In return for some info on Vatun's fate and for the chance to take down Atakido, Loji allied with us during the frost giant fight. He even gave his life and we...

Need advice on playing a beguiler

Then let me put it another way. If bardic knowledge is needed for the campaign, I would suggest negotiating with the GM to have it as an alternate class feature of the Beguiler. Perhaps the Beguiler could give up Trapfinding and the bonus metamagic feats in exchange. It just makes more sense.

Need advice on playing a beguiler

All right, I'm basically going to treat the PC as a Beguiler who has a -1 level adjustment. I've been playing a Beguiler up to 5th level so far, and I've had a blast. 1. Keep your Bluff score maxed and speak several languages. On at least three separate occasions I've been able to gain us a...
