How would you interrogate an artifact battleaxe?

I think that's a reasonable tabletop suggestion, but this is a message board game. Extended exchanges can drag on forever. We kind of need to do a, "player posts PC speech", "DM posts NPC speech", "player posts PC speech," "DM posts NPC speech", "scene over" kind of thing. Also, we're also in...

How would you interrogate an artifact battleaxe?

Intelligent items are treated as constructs and thus immune to mind affecting, so no. I'm pretty nervous about this thing. It was able to influence Ms. 25th level even after being smashed, and from a distance. All the suggested methods of destruction are futile. We have a Sphere of...

How would you interrogate an artifact battleaxe?

Well, we're not Vatun-worshippers or anything but we figure freeing him would mean a god owing us big-time. That could be real useful in the near future. This axe, Atakido, was weilded by the legendary frost giant hero who helped lock him up and was trying to continue taht legacy. This is an...

How would you interrogate an artifact battleaxe?

High level (~19) message board game (so it goes real slow). We just came out of some trouble with frost giants and discovered that their real leader was this powerful intelligent artifact battleaxe that had taken control of a useful lackey. We smashed up the battleaxe good during the fight...

Evard's Black Tentacles get only one try?

The spell doesn't say anything of the sort, though. I just find it annoying that a creature has no motivation to move outside of the area of a black tentacles spell. If it's able to move then it obviously either made the initial grapple check or eventually escaped. Either way, it's safe...

D&D 4E The math behind power attack and why it needs to be redone in 4e

I disagree. There's nothing wrong with my memory, and I have a firm grasp on what benefits my character. Considering I was dealing with ACs of around 20 (or less), you'll find I was making the smart call. The fact is that power attack is a mechanically beneficial feat to have, and with proper...

M&M: Every stat is a dump stat?

Okay, let's look at this one by one. All stats cost 2 points for every +1 from them. Strength - Your strength affects several things. Damage, strength-based skills, grappling, carrying capacity, and trip checks. (Grappling is a killer in M&M.) If all you care about is damage, then it is...

    Reserve Feat Question

Yes. And since the Stormbolt feat also causes electrical spells (which the Cone now is) to be cast at +1 CL, your energy substituted Cone will do more damage as well. It synergizes nicely, really encouraging a themed mage.

D&D 4E The math behind power attack and why it needs to be redone in 4e

Of course, the real benefit to Power Attack is when you have ways to multiply your damage. Actual Play example. I have a 9th level paladin with Power Attack that I play in a bi-weekly game. Last session we were in an arena-type combat with plenty of room and multiple buffing spells. My PC...

D&D 4E The math behind power attack and why it needs to be redone in 4e

Completely wrong. The less average damage you do per hit compared to your attack bonus, the better Power Attack is for you. That's already been established in the thread. DR effectively lowers your average damage. So a character who normally does 1d12+7 damage when going up against a DR 5...

Evard's Black Tentacles get only one try?

Got a sorcerer who took Black Tentacles at 9th level. So far I have not been impressed with it. (Of course, this might be due to the fact that we've been fighting driders with class levels, who apparently have very high grapple checks.) Anyway, I wanted to verify one particularly annoying...

Why aren't all 9th level wizards rich?

In games I've been in, all ninth level wizards are rich. Or at least pretty well off. They tend to live in big houses with nice furniture and not worry much about where the next meal is coming from, is what I'm saying.

    Gorgon Plate - Priced Right?

155,230 seems way over-priced. Immunity to petrification is nice, but awfully specific. Not to mention that you get to save against most petrification effects anyway, and if you fail it's reversible. It's not a problem you run into a whole lot, and I certainly wouldn't price it as a...

    Atonement in a desolated zone

Have you started off by asking your DM? Perhaps a way will be provided. The Rules forum should be your last resort here. Even though clerical powers technically have specific games rules attached to them, this is the area where most DMs will have a lot of leeway for their personal...

    OOTS 506: Flanking Crush

Nothing from any official WotC source. Best guess is it's epic magic, which makes Xykon even tougher than we'd thought.

    Tips for a Beguiler/Assassin build?

Death Attack /= Sneak Attack. You have to study a target for at least 3 rounds withotu the target knowing you are a threat before you can death attack. The OP can get into Assassin at Beguiler 5, but I recommend going Beguiler 6 to get those tasty 3rd level spells. As an Assassin, you have...

Charged items for a 9th level paladin?

That's very inconvenient. Is there any way to weasel around that? I notice all of these are permanent items. While I certainly don't discount them, what are your thoughts on charged items? I mean, I've got the same prejudices most gamers do. I don't want to "burn gold" on something that is...

Charged items for a 9th level paladin?

I'm playing through Age of Worms in a 5 PC (+ 1 NPC cohort) group. We're likely going to have a few weeks of downtime soon, and there is an Artificer in the group. I have been trying to come up with a 'requested crafting and/or purchase list' to see what items I might want to get. The party...

Best 9th level spell for a sorcerer

I would go with Shapeshift or Gate only if I had a spell or spells that can be usefully boosted with a metamagic feat to fill that 9th level slot. Sometimes you need to expend all your boom in a hurry, and Shapeshift/Gate aren't spells you are going to cast more than once a battle.
