    Are DMs better players?

I'm not sure... My group has 3 people (including me) who are more involved, and they also are the GMs so they know the rules better at least. Otherwise I'm not sure they make better players. As a player I find it hard to get really into character because I keep getting asked for rules and...

Correlating age and start of playing polls

fair enough... I guess I'm really more interested in how big that particular group is... Whether there is a lot of correlation... true, 14 is not that late in life... I didn't think that part of the poll through that much since it was a bit of an afterthought... Sorry about that.

Correlating age and start of playing polls

I was born later and started later. This would probably be great for WotC marketing to take a look at. :)

Correlating age and start of playing polls

Okay, noting the two polls in the forum, I was struck by something, so I wanted to check it out... The polls suggest that most D&D players were born between 1968 and 1973 and then started playing between 1977 and 1982. I don't know what thi means exactly, but I thought I would jsut see if it...

New 'how old are we' poll

It's interesting for me as a nerd to note that we seem to have a pretty nice normal distribution going in this thread... Of course, I will leave it to somebody else to analyse the statistical significance of that... It's interesting that there seem to be a great many 81's on here, o whihc I am...

    Why did TSR dump Alternity?

I get annoyed with the number of people who say that... i think it has a lot to do with the GM and how they run something... the rules can help, but how much more is the GM's performance a part of it. IMNSHO the books did a good job of getting the feel of star wars across.

Are you required to bring your own books when you game?

to some extent this has been my experience too, though it doesn't help that I'm the most into RPGs in the group... but yeah... it's pretty annoying.

Are you required to bring your own books when you game?

I wish I could get this going in my group... There is a lack of dedication all around... Unfortunately we're all students, so... but the day will come...

    Do you like rules-heavy systems?

If you've ever read Robin's Laws of good gammastering, it does say that rules heavy systems do tend to favour players... But yeah, dunno. I think you should have put an in between option...

    Fear!

yeah, as far as I know, I'm the only one in my group who looks at gaming sites... The rest know of D20 because that's what we play, other D20 games... But that's because I tell them. they don't even buy core books, so that really says something about support for a magazine...

    Fear!

Well, I don't buy poly unless I see a minigame I really like... So far that has happened once... I can buy a sourcebook for 4 issues of poly, and my income doesn't stretch that far yet... I was desperately seeking star wars gamer when it was published, ony to be told that they didn't sell it in...

    What book to buy?

I would go for the GMing stuff, Robin's guide and GMing secrets... I have them both, and while they do contain stuff you can get off the net, the fact that you have them in print makes it a lot easier to access...

Do the Non-US Players and DMs use the metric system?

no, we get the very same books as you, much to our chagrin... Fortunately, as an engineering student, I am conversant in the imperial system, as are my players. thus it is not an issue for us to use imperial measurements. It is still unnatural though, and requires mental conversation to get...

[Serious] Help, I'm addicted to buying RPG books!

I tihnk it's a legitimate post, considering that many here probably go through a similar thing... Campbell, Yeah, lots of other people do go and spend obscene amounts on things like drinking... I guess it just looks worse because we see the 'detritus' of our spending more and can tally how much...

[Serious] Help, I'm addicted to buying RPG books!

[Serious] Help, I'm addicted to buying RPG books!

Hey man, I feel your pain... I too am studying, and I too have spent a lot of money on gaming, expecially in the past year as stress built up. The problem is that my compulsion is taking me to e-bay, where in the middle of the night when my resistance is lowest I start bidding on stuff... Yeah...
