What do you want to see from 4E Publishers?

What I'm *not* looking for... Adventures. I'm mostly writing my own and I don't game with any one group often enough to exhaust the official adventure path or the offerings of Dungeon Magazine. This wouldn't have been true in the past, as I didn't collect magazines... but digital Dragon /...

Anyone else notice that if you play a 'monster race' in 4e...

I'm personally happy with the focus of the game on "heroic" play. Even anti-heroes in books and movies often have some ethical or morale code that makes them somehow redeemable. It's really easy to strip the heroic out and create an evil character if that's what you want. It's more important to...

    Minions and hps

I don't know where the cut off should be, honestly, but two rounds seems acceptable to me. The fact that minions deal average damage and have good defenses for their level but die faster is sort of what makes them minions. I'm in favor of a rule that keeps them from dieing before they've even...

    4e's [W] damage discrepancy

I think I would argue that a non-striker melee class built to effectively use a two hander is a hybrid striker. Yep they are going to do some damage, maybe even more than you some rounds... then again you have range and class features built to better facilitate the striker role than theirs. I...

    Minions and hps

You're right, it is basically the same as your suggestion. Sorry. I think I'm going to go with that. I use Alea Tools counters, so tracking bloodied doesn't really make things any more complicated/cumbersome. Throw a red magnet under the affected minions and move on. :)

    Minions and hps

I'm sort of, of the opinion that a successful attack roll should be required to kill a minion. But that might make auto-damage attacks too weak. What about... Any damage from a successful attack roll kills a minion as normal. Any damage that is applied automatically without an attack roll...

    Minions and hps

I'm going to continue using minions as-is, as I've not seen an issue with them yet... but I'm going to tuck the damage threshold concept laid out earlier in this thread away for special cases. It might be interesting to see the players squirm when the zombie rotters don't go down as easy as the...

    D&D 4E 4e rule question - extended rest & HP's

The game is still plenty lethal and, as others have pointed out, the healing up to full is really not so different than a lot of 3e games only the need to erase charges and purchase new wands now and then are gone. Of course you can still take healing surges or even recovered health from players...

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

I really like it, but I'm not a blind devotee. I see some issues with it, but overall I'm happy and I think as gaps get filled in I'll grow to love it more. I really like where some elements went. I think the wizard will develop to the point where you can do a lot of different builds with it...

Granted basic attacks, rolled by the granter rather than the grantee

I agree on all counts. I don't think he fully wanted to play a warlord, or didn't understand what they do, but the 4 players sort of decided to each pick a role. He is usually the striker type character, so he took the leader this time. I almost think he would have been better off with the...

Granted basic attacks, rolled by the granter rather than the grantee

So my group has a warlord. The group clearly needs a leader, and with a rogue and a paladin in the party the warlord seems like a solid choice. The group is still learning to stay close enough to benefit from his abilities, but he has still been frustrated with how much of a support character he...

    Most Useful Reference Sheet ever?

I did some revising of my take on this concept. I could easily expand this to another page to handle more skills, death rules, or maybe even a campaign specific lexicon... but I'm not sure when the play aid stops being a play aid and starts just being an unorganized, condensed, mash-up of the...

Reflavoring 4E for Athas (Forked From: Dark Sun 4e: Can it work?)

I still thnk Dragonborn as an eventual evolution of the Dray (in a timeline advanced setting) would work. They would look a little different, maybe have a different racial ability. Elves, Halflings, Humans, and Dwarves are all good to go. Tiefling poses a problem, though I've always thought of...

Tell me about your D&D group

We have a few seats that rotate players in and out as people come and go, but the current group of core players have been playing together for about 12 or 13 years. All ages are approximate. > Male, 31, Helpdesk Technician > Male, 31, Factory Worker > Male, 31, Factory Worker > Male, 31...

Dark Sun 4e: Can it work?

Ok. My first real campaign was set in Dark Sun so I'm biased towards wanting to see it done up again. I'm not going to insist that everything new be thrown out (i.e. if someone comes up with a neat story about the Dray being the predecessors to the Dragonborn and they can really sell it, I'll...

Let the Players Manage themselves Part 2

Huh... I've also been running the 'beginning of a turn' sequence in the order presented in the book, though after reading this thread and consulting the book I don't believe that is necessarily the intention of the rules. I'm going to continue running it on that schedule though. Folks forget...

once and for all, can you wield 2 implements?

You can't dual wield two weapons if neither of them are off-hand weapons, but you can certainly hold two long swords and attack with either one on any given round without penalty since no dominant hand mechanic exists in the game. So, in essence this discussion would apply to passive powers on...

An Opportunity for WotC in 2009

The settings were great. My Dark Sun campaign was my first real long-running campaign. I continued to collect planescape stuff, just to read it, even after I had stopped playing D&D. The game itself just felt... old? I don't know how else to explain it, but I didn't dislike the game mechanics...

    Most Useful Reference Sheet ever?

I'll look into implementing the suggestions. I certainly want it to be as useful as possible. I'm also working on a DM sheet for combat tracking, and am refining my character sheets. I should probably get those posted to the downloads section too. I spend far too much time in InDesign working...

    State of the Revised GSL?

OK. The trend of new faces coming forward with each edition, interfacing with the fanbase, making us all a little less cynical about evil corporate overlords, and then getting put out on the street is... disheartening. Bummer that the restructuring is delaying one of the largest areas of...
