    D&D 5E (2014) Killing a Teammate

I think it is totally unreasonable to limit a player to one character. My players regularly have multiple characters and they switch between them when they want to, subject to story constraints. Essentially the entire adventuring group is far larger than what is present in any given session. It...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

Agreed on all counts here. A good point. Homogeneity is boring. Changing the entire cosmology because of stuff specific to the Realms was also a mistake. The changes themselves were pretty abysmal. I found myself annoyed by the Time of Troubles. Even then it seemed so forced and artificial...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

I was being flippant. Zombie squirrels does sound interesting though. Ugh, you lost me. I hate the new BSG. Wipe 'em all. The original is the way to go. :) Installing Windows is far more immoral than wiping a droid. Agreed that group character generation can be a good thing.

D&D 5E (2014) Vampiric Touch Opportunity Attack Ruling?

Wrong. As I said before, 1 and 3a were the usages I intended, which have absolutely nothing to do with randomness and everything to do with individual preference, convenience, and discretion. Even your choice (and it isn't your usage we are talking about, is it?) "seemingly at random" isn't...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

I'd play in that game. Pretty sure I saw one of those in the latest Star Wars movie, masquerading as a Storm Trooper.

D&D 5E (2014) Vampiric Touch Opportunity Attack Ruling?

Haha, funny. I guess you didn't bother looking it up. Arbitrary is not random. From Merriam Webster (1 and 3a are particularly relevant): 1 : depending on individual discretion (as of a judge) and not fixed by law <the manner of punishment is arbitrary> 2 a : not restrained or limited in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sensing a rift growing between players

Those cases certainly sound like disruptive players. A disruptive character can be many things, but if played with conscientous players, it absolutely can be fun for the entire party. It's probably much easier if you have an experienced tight-knit group of players, but I've seen it done...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

Agreed. While heroes are a major trope of D&D, anti-heroes can be every bit as interesting.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Conan in 5e?

That's not true at all. I've DM'ed plenty of games with characters who had mismatched or inferior ability scores. Intelligent playing goes a long way, especially when the DM is not coddling players by constantly balancing all their encounters. It's not what you have, it's how you use it.

You clearly do not. Prove it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sensing a rift growing between players

There's an even wider gulf between disruptive characters and disruptive players. The former can be made to work, the latter can't.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Conan in 5e?

I like characters like that! In some games I've run, we roll players up using the original 1st Ed. AD&D method: 3d6, applied in order. No wimpy point-buy or choosing your ability scores. You don't pick your genes! Characters like that tend to be memorable, vs. the generic "yet another...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

Since those in Kara-Tur are not subject to the Wall, apparently all you have to do is travel East. Problem solved. :)

D&D 5E (2014) Vampiric Touch Opportunity Attack Ruling?

I know precisely what arbitrary means. Just because you don't agree, doesn't mean I don't understand the word. Perhaps it is you who doesn't understand it.

D&D 5E (2014) Vampiric Touch Opportunity Attack Ruling?

Naturally. However I provided as much reasoned argument in my replies as he did in his post, i.e. none. It was especially apt as his post was little more than telling me what my intentions were. Something I would know far better than him.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Conan in 5e?

D&D 5E (2014) Vampiric Touch Opportunity Attack Ruling?

You are wrong. Opportunity attacks allow you to take melee attack actions outside your turn. This is despite the rules for actions in combat saying you take actions on your turn, exactly like the rules in the vampiric touch spell description states. You are wrong again. Wrong yet again...

D&D 5E (2014) Vampiric Touch Opportunity Attack Ruling?

I think the assumption was the spell was already cast and this is a subsequent round where the caster is merely maintaining concentration. If he held an action to cast the spell, he wouldn't be able to grapple in the same turn...that's two actions.

D&D 5E (2014) Vampiric Touch Opportunity Attack Ruling?

Vampiric touch doesn't have you specify a hand. There's no reason the caster can't switch which hand he uses to drain each round. The caster could not channel the power of vampiric drain through his hand while grappling with it any more than he could punch the target while grappling with it at...

D&D 5E (2014) Vampiric Touch Opportunity Attack Ruling?

No, that reply was directed at the OP as encouragement to let his decisions reach beyond the mere text of the rules. Yes, he said he hadn't found a solid ruling. My advice was that one isn't needed. Sure it wasn't directly what he asked for, but often people ask questions from a certain...
