D&D 5E (2014) Signs that you've been adventuring too long

    54. You sneeze and accidentally destroy the outer planes.

D&D 5E (2014) How cognizant are you of the rules of the game?

From the 1st Edition DMG (page 9): Of the two approaches to hobby games today, one is best defined as the realism-simulation school and the other as the game school. AD&D is assuredly an adherent of the latter school. It does not stress any realism (in the author’s opinion an absurd effort at...

    D&D 5E (2014) World-Building DMs

It is under the control of the DM. That doesn't mean your DM isn't inconsistent, or entirely batshit insane though. If a good DM had approved the concept once, he should've stuck with what he approved. Sounds like your DM sucked. I would've gotten up and left right then and made a well-heard...

D&D 5E (2014) How cognizant are you of the rules of the game?

It is also a jerk move to build only neurotic, anal-retentive, perfectionist characters. The party I DM for would probably consider that character to be under some sort of curse and either try to get him cured...or kill him...out of mercy.

D&D 5E (2014) How cognizant are you of the rules of the game?

My experience mostly mirrors yours. As far as the lingo goes...I blame Everquest. I played Everquest back in beta in the late 90's and those god-awful terms started popping up like toadstools after a rainstorm: nerf, tank, buff, etc.

D&D 5E (2014) How cognizant are you of the rules of the game?

I DM far more than I play, but when I do I like to make oddball characters. Stats/abilities are mostly irrelevant, except to reinforce a look and feel to my characters.

D&D 5E (2014) STR and DEX fighter stupid?

Light and medium armor fighting types are great in a nautical setting. Heavy armor wearing characters in a nautical setting are generally known by the more colloquial name of "anchors".

    I still play that way.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition Intelligence

The idea of limiting player input into their character's actions based on INT is something I would not do. Whether or not your character comes up with brilliant or stupid ideas is completely driven by the player. It is part of the game. To play it otherwise turns the character into an automaton...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition Intelligence

I think you mean "commensurate". Commiserate is "to feel or express sympathy". Your posts sounds pretty funny when you read it this way.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition Intelligence

Characters in my games roll their stats. No one chooses their genes. You can bet any fighter type that has super low intelligence is going to be a prime target for any NPC illusionist who can cast the 2nd level spell Phantasmal Force. They enjoy watching big fighter types stroll off of cliffs...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition Intelligence

At low levels, a low INT may not mean much to non-wizards except failing INT checks and saves vs. illusions (which can still be pretty bad in the right circumstances). At medium to high levels, getting hit with some of the more powerful illusion or mind-affecting spells can be devastating. Let...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

I'm familiar with that bit of the DMG and you are extrapolating from nothing. Greater gods do not typically interact with mortals directly, and slaying their avatar does not afect the god itself, but there is no statement about them not being able to be harmed. This is little different from...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

Says you, based on nothing. *Sheesh* for a D&D forum there is a distinct lack of imagination around here.

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

I meant to imply the character makes this happen, it is not just because Kelemvor is killed. Although there's no reason it couldn't happen that way if events are arranged properly. Yes. You prefer to argue from some other type of game perspective? The official material is completely...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

Right up until your character shoves his sword up Kelemvor's backside and sends the Fugue spiraling into the Negative Energy plane. Then you are not wrong anymore. Isn't D&D awesome?

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

*sigh* I wasn't saying that at all. It was a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor suggesting that the Greeks were right and their gods are real, suggesting practically everyone on the planet today is faithless. Thus the remark that "Everyone's religion is someone's mythology and vice versa."

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

I've never played in such a game and would not enjoy it. No one I've played with over many years has ever expressed a desire to do anything like this. To me this seems like tying your shoelaces together before the marathon starts. Still, if everyone in the group enjoys that level of devotion to...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

There are many ugly, boring, un-fun things about the real world. Why should the Realms be the same? In other news: It turns out the ancient greeks were right, and practically everyone is faithless. Oops. Everyone's religion is someone's mythology and vice versa.
