D&D 5E (2024) Are single class martials still going to be viable in 2024?

Not sure what Hew is? Oh wait, that's the bonus attack from GWM. Yeah, I don't have that figured in yet. As for Sentinel, I actually just added that a short bit ago. Hadn't noted it in the above post yet. I'm currently defaulting it to the same 20% as the PAM reaction. It's a small bit of extra...

    D&D 5E (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

Wield two one-handed weapons. Attack once with each weapon. One of the weapons has the Topple mastery, to knock prone. The other has the stacked speed reduction, leaving them with 0 speed. With no speed, they can't stand up. Yes, grappling would work too, but you have to stay on top of them for...

    D&D 5E (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

Barbarian using Hamstring Blow with Brutal Strike to slow by another 15', for -35' speed reduction. Only sad thing is that you can't use it with the World Tree's reach-extending feature for a 20' reach. (The weapon has to be heavy or versatile in the final rules.) Interesting that the whip is...

OK, that appears to be a pre-release version of the UA (Puncture is not in any of the UAs that I have downloaded), and from looking at the weapons it applies to, Puncture seems to have had its name changed to Vex.

    D&D 5E (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

I don't recall a Puncture mastery ever existing. Flex used to be on Versatile weapons, allowing you to use the higher damage rating even when wielded one-handed. People didn't like it, so it got removed before the end of the UA. Versatile weapons instead got various other masteries such as...

D&D 5E (2024) Are single class martials still going to be viable in 2024?

Time for a graph! This is from my DPR spreadsheet. I've been rebuilding it for the new PHB. Lots of improvements, as this is like the third time through the process. In particular, I've made it so that I can set a multiclass dip of one level and cause things to be offset properly. Anyway...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Ah, true. It says "on any damage die", so yes, it should apply to any extra damage boosts. That's a tiny bit better. It's about +14% per d6, rather than about +4-5% per d10 or d12. A maul with Hunter's Mark or Divine Smite is getting about a 10% boost after factoring in mods. Meanwhile, TWF...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Yeah, GWF is pretty horrible. Old GWF made a 1d10 weapon's average increase from 5.5 to 6.3, which was already pretty weak. New GWF makes a 1d10 weapon's average increase from 5.5 to 5.8. Get literally anything else and it'll be more useful. Heck, get the Unarmed fighting style on your greataxe...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Yeah, when I wrote up the original thread post, I deliberately avoided any interaction with weapon swapping. It is solely about how dual wielding works, and what options you have. It's not intended as an optimization guide. All the different forms have valid use cases.

D&D 5E (2024) Are single class martials still going to be viable in 2024?

For Fighter with a 1 level dip in Monk, it's a great boost for up to Fighter level 4 (character levels 2-5), but collapses after that. If you're going for two-weapon fighting, picking up Dual Wielder gets you the same benefit as the Monk dip, and it ends up being a wash, or better for the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Copper Dragon Preview

Somehow that's even worse. That means the owlin is gyrating and contorting like some sort of punk band member in a performance for the dragon, alongside the human that, given the context, is doing that thing of holding his instrument out in front of him while playing, which makes no sense for...

Requoting the fighting style: Requoting from the feat: Dual Wielder only gives you the extra attack when you attack with a weapon that has the Light property. Thus, the extra attack is the result of using a weapon that has the Light property. That's precisely what Two-Weapon Fighting applies...

D&D 5E (2024) Ways to attack with advantage by level (with all the fine print)

Wait, stupid mistake. Shining Smite is a 2nd level spell, but since it's on a paladin, that means min level of 5, not 3.

That's hilarious, and now I wanna do it. Just depends on if the grapplee counts as a Versatile weapon or a Two-Handed weapon. You can hold 'em with one hand, but can you wield them with one hand?

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

There have been a lot of changes in how dual wielding works in the 2024 rule set. This post is my attempt to consolidate all the ways it works now. Setup For the purposes of this post, I'll be using a Fighter 5/Rogue 2 character, so it will have the features I want to demonstrate. So as not to...
