What are you reading in 2023?

I'm not done with my current readings, but I bought a copy of Rogues of Merth by Robert Zoltan. A more modern take on Sword & Sorcery is exactly what I'm feeling for!

What's even pay to win in a VTT?

What are you reading in 2023?

I dove in This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. It's not my typical reading, but I'm enjoying it and it's pretty short. Last week I bought the Book of the new Sun by Gene Wolfe. Excited to start it.

Good games specifically to showcase non-D&D TTRPGs

In my experience, I have two recommendations: 2400 (Link) is a super lightweight rule set. You basically get a ton of three pages pamphlets that all focus on a specific flavor of Sci-Fi. It's incredibly simple, lightweight and easy to run. I wouldn't run an incredibly long campaign as it might...

Paizo News: PaizoCon Online Wrap Up

Betrayal? Time passes and things change. They supported PF1E for one full decade. The company and the creators inside it will want to move to something else at some point; it's good for them, the company and the hobby. I'd roll my eyes if they had moved on a year or two after releasing a game...

Pathfinder 2E What does Pathfinder lack?

Advantage and Disadvantage would be undesirable in PF2E. It's a very convenient and simple mechanic (I really like it), but it removes granularity when it comes to narrative advantages and disadvantages. You either have advantage, disadvantage, or you don't. You might have an enchantment, your...

    D&D Movie/TV Rate the D&D movie

I'm very happy that you've enjoyed every single movie you've ever seen in your life. It'd be a shame if one of them just didn't click with you and that made you part of the fun-hating gang.

    D&D Movie/TV Rate the D&D movie

My expectations were very low at first, I had no intentions of seeing it. But I saw several reports that the movie was actually quite a bit of fun. Finally got you see it tonight. I honestly don't understand the praise. The special effects were nice, the production value was good, but that's...

Would you play a TTRPG that used Meters instead of Feet?

Being from eastern Canada my mother tongue is french. But I work mostly in english and consume my media in english. The two languages are severely tangled in my brain. It's probably a mix between the usual and a free translation of a french Canadian expression.

How do you create an adventure when it can be about "anything?"

Everyone works differently. But I constantly take notes or snag images, quotes and ideas from most media that I consume. When I'm hit with a blank page, I go through it and take one thing that inspires me when I set my eyes on it again. Then I put on some appropriate music and try to merge two...

Would you play a TTRPG that used Meters instead of Feet?

I'm from Canada, but I'm used to whatever strange mix we use here. The experience is not the same for every Canadian (big country), but in my thick of the woods... I measure 6 foot and 1 inch. Anything construction related is in foot and inches. I buy a two litres of soft liquor at the store...

D&D General D&D Book Prices Are Going Up

I'm mostly done with WotC with everything that has happened in the last few months. But even though 5E books have never impressed me with their quality, a price increase is absolutely reasonable. I actually think that the whole industry could do better by selling their products at a higher level...

    RPGs, new games and originality

I've lurked around Numenera for more than a year, but a few bad reviews from people around me are making me hold on for now. There's also so many supplements!

I'll guess that against all odds, it's by something that is still active on the forums.

How did you convince your group to try something different?

I've always been the DM for as long as I remember. I take interest in other games, I buy the books and prepare the adventures. The players don't generally get much of a say. The conversation ressembles something like "Hey, I bought this cool game and I'm starting a campaign in a couple of weeks...

    RPGs, new games and originality

I focused on these three parts of my personal survey because they're very active spaces. The OSR space itself is more active in what it produces than many big official RPGs. However, I assure you, within what is possible for one individual with a job, I've touched to many things outside of that...

    RPGs, new games and originality

You're right! I left them out because buying full-fledged games from big publishers, sometimes IPs that have been alive for almost as long as D&D led me to discover some very different games. Just in the last four years I bought and/or played things like Burning Wheel, Vampire V5, Lancer...

    RPGs, new games and originality

Alright, so this is not a rant. It's something that'd been nagging in the back of my mind for several months now and I've wanted to exchange with someone to kind of understand my own thoughts and feelings about the matter. I've been playing D&D since about 2000 with 3rd edition. I've only...
