Seminar Transcript - Upcoming Products for 2012

I have to say that I am not impressed at all by the reprint covers. The "art" itself might be pretty cool (a little to small to tell) but putting the art inside a faux-book frame instead of having the art take up the full space of the cover is a mistake, IMO. Also, and I might be mistaken...

WotC to Release 1st Edition Premium Core Rulebooks Reprints

I don't know about how it compared to all RPG books in general, but among the hardbacks for the 1e era, the UA was notorious for its poor binding.

Seminar Transcript - Upcoming Products for 2012

Is WotC really referring to 5e as "iteration" and "D&D Next" or am I misinterpreting something?

DDI Virtual Table Beta Tour and Future

Hope is as much of a bias as skepticism! That argument was never buried. As a matter of fact, I think that argument is a crest of the flag of the Edition Wars. While I don't participate in them, it should be soundly obvious that they did really exist, and that since the annoucement of 5e, the...

DDI Virtual Table Beta Tour and Future

I don't know. Maybe reading the article? Is positivity truly opposed by critical thought? Is the tone of the article so translucent that the smallest pinprick in it's skin will cause it to leak -- or -- Is one person's interpretation truly a symptom of global negativity? If WotC had listened...

DDI Virtual Table Beta Tour and Future

See, that's not how I read the review. I see someone who is trying very, very hard to put a positive light on something that they feel a bit underwhelmed by. The simplicity of the table is nice, but as it is now -- or as it is now described -- it really isn't going to cut it. However -- if...

DDI Virtual Table Beta Tour and Future

I predict that the "voice-changer" will become universally derided as an annoyance as a result of poor enunciation and ambient background noise running through the coked_gnome.voc filter. Seriously, if this is the best VT that WotC can preview at this point, they need to just hang it up, turn...

    3.0 Era Polyhedron

Man, that era of Polyhedron was great! Pulp Heroes, Iron Lords of Jupiter, Thunderball Rally and Hi-Jinx were my favorite. That team was really pushing the d20 envelope as far as it could go, and I really miss it. The combination of high production values and the wild, experimental spirit --...

    Let's Forget the Forgotten Realms

Finally, something Morrus posted on this site that I agree with 100%. Is this a trick? Am I being tricked? I am dubious... and afraid.

WotC to Release 1st Edition Premium Core Rulebooks Reprints

I think I will remain a little underwhelmed until I learn who is doing the new cover art and what percentage of the money is going toward the memorial (and honestly, the "memorial" leaves me a bit underwhelmed as well, unlike something such as a Gygax Grant or Scholarship fund would). People...

WotC to Release 1st Edition Premium Core Rulebooks Reprints

I assume that these are exact reprints of the "original" reprinted versions, ie, they contain the last printed changes and errata and nothing beyond that?

How do you feel about the future of D&D after the official announcements?

I tried to write out exactly WHY I feel "neutral" with a list of positives and negatives, but each time I try, I realize it will take a much longer reply for me to explain it all. So here's the briefest, shortest, gut-check reason why I feel neutral: Negative: I feel that 4e was a good system...

    Conan's Morality

For the most part, Conan doesn't have to "force" women... he is a fictional super character who has the kind of Charisma that leads women to force their attention upon him. However, when a woman he finds interesting is able to push him away (usually because they find him to be too intense or...

    Paranoia/40K mashup.

You may already know about this, but there was an adventure called "Vulture Warriors from Dimension X Meet Plenty of Cheerful Orks with Plasma Cannons." I can't recall if it was an article in Dragon or White Dwarf OR a published Paranoia module adventure. Or perhaps a fever dream. Your idea...

As a DM, what is your default answer to player requests?

Honestly, my natural default answer is NO. However, several years ago I put up a sticky note on the inside of my DM screen that reads "Say YES" and it works. I still say NO on occasion, but I try to give out just enough NO that when I give a YES it seems more... important?

    A Quick D&D Primer

Nothing wrong with going over the basics. You may want to make a mention of the D&D Essentials line, something like "After [whatever] years of being in print, 4th edition was supplemented with a line of new books called 'Essentials' "

    Free RPG Day 2011

From my perusal at my LGS (and by the way, the retailer does have to pay for this stuff, so it's not "free" for them!) THE BAD The C&C offering is pretty pathetic -- it looks like a few 11" x 17" sheets photocopied, hastily folded and stapled. Mayfair Games supplied a one-sheet advertisement...
