    Best single volume RPG?

Call of Cthulhu d20. I don't have any experience with the non-d20 versions of the game, so they might be better. FUDGE 10th Anniversary Edition. An open-ended rule set that can be very rewarding if you want to spend the time tweaking it. WitchCraft, All Flesh Must Be Eaten or Conspiracy X. All...

I hope stat generation is addressed

I like the way it's done now. A standard ability score generation mechanic is presented in the PHB, and several optional ones are presented in the DMG. Personally, I would like a 'potential' option. That is, if you roll high, you are closer to the top of your potential; if you roll low, you...

D&D 4E Does anyone else feel like 4ed isn't really a new edition?

It almost feels like an entirely different game from what I've read. The genre/fluff changes seem huge to me. In a way, 3.0e/3.5e was a "back to the dungeon" edition, paying tribute to the style of 1e. 4.0e seems to be in the style of 2.0/2.5e with sweeping ideological changes (removal of...

Recommendations needed for a new system for an Old DM

Very cool. I have seen Spirit of the Century mentioned several times, but I didn't know it was based on FATE.

    Dungeon Dice

I have the dice you are talking about, and I purchased them from the CHESSEX booth at Dragon*Con. They don't seem to be listed on the CHESSEX site however.

Recommendations needed for a new system for an Old DM

I was going to suggest WitchCraft, but I see you've already tried it. If you're only interested in a new rules system, try FUDGE or Savage Worlds. FUDGE is free to download, and Savage Worlds is only $10 now for the core rulebook. http://www.fudgerpg.com/ http://www.fudgefactor.org/ for ideas...

    D&D 4E The Ultimate PHBI4e Warforged Poll

I don't care either way. The only thing that would concern me was if the inclusion of warforged knocked a classic core race (such as gnomes) out of the first PHB.

D&D 4E We likes our dwarven women kinda furry! (aka 4e beards)

I've always described it this way: Dwarven women tend to wear their hair in long braids. Sometimes, the front braids are wrapped behind the ears and then braided underneath the chin in a long luxurious lock. Humans often mistake this for a beard.

    Disdain for new fantasy

Also, the Ghouls in Kadath made a cute "meeping" noise. That was really weird. On a side-side note, I recently finished Swords of Lankhmar by Leiber which also featured alternative ghouls and heroic house cats. We can forgive Carter seeking the assistance of other beings, as he was obviously...

    D&D 4E Encumbrance in 4e

I voted for simpler/faster. I would be fine with keeping the same encumbrance rules we have now in 3.5, but if there's a simpler and faster way to do it without making it too abstract or worthless, then I'm all for it.

    Disdain for new fantasy

So very true! Also, the "Carter" of Kadath could easily be switched out with Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars, another huge influence on D&D.

    I might wait 3 years for v.4.5

Skills & Powers were a set of additional books you could use with your first or later printings of the core 2e books. It was the same with 1e. The main books were reprinted, but the only real changes inside were errata. The 1.5 was really Unearthed Arcana, which, once again, was an additional...

    Disdain for new fantasy

Evard's Black Tentacles suddenly become even more horrific...

Warforged: Like them or loathe them?

I think having Warforged as a playable race is OK, but I don't want them in the first core book.

    Crunch or Fluff Changes

The changes to fluff might make me stick with 3.5 instead of house ruling 4.0. The changes to crunch are all that's keeping me interested in 4.0.

    Savage Worlds for Spelljammer

With the new $10 rulebook for Savage Worlds, it's a very tempting system.

What "IS" the Dungeons & Dragons Brand?

That's right.... and the same edition of Monopoly has been selling for a long, long time. Even with "themed" editions released (some with minor rules changes) the original is still manufactured and sold.

    Moving to C&C... need help

No. Honest criticism of a game mechanic is not an emotional reaction. It is not an attack on C&C or Troll Lords. Also, correcting misinformation presented about a game book is not "anti" anything other than anti-misinformation. When I say evangelism I mean evangelism. There is no hidden...

    Moving to C&C... need help

The evangelism of C&C has become quite "classic" in its own right. :D Starting a semantic argument over every minor criticism of C&C will soon be next to "my hat of 3e nos no limit" and "OD&D is the only true game" in the top ten of enworld "classics". There are no feats in C&C. In the PHB...

    Personal Preference (P)for PHB Pronouns?

He or she, alternating, seems fine to me. It wasn't distracting to me in 3e.
