    WOTC PDF Sale on RPGNow/DTRPG

It's a better deal, but still incredibly overpriced for a .pdf. I'll stick with hardbacks from Amazon.com.

    July purchases...

1/4" grid design 4" x 6" index cards. These are great for drawing small maps. I can keep them organized by encounter, and they fit easily behind my GM screen or on the magnetic board. 3" x 2 1/2" lined index cards. I bought these on a whim, and I'm glad I did. I was able to write short...

Are we gamers an ungrateful lot?

Remember, the squeaky, whiny, histrionic wheel gets the most grease. But don't confuse the loudest with the mostest. Off-Topic: Erik, I want to make a William S. Burroughs RPG. We can market it to kids. It'll be great.

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

I think the main reason that FUDGE jumped into my mind was that it was one of the considered rulesets being bandied around for HackMaster before it was finalized. Really, the options are wide-open for HackMaster's future. I really like the idea of a "Basic" HackMaster and an "Advanced" HackMaster.

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Hey Jolly, Are the old HM books still going to be available through print-on-demand? How about .pdf? Or will the ending of this license prevent you from continuing to sell material made under that license after a certain point in time? In any case, I think this will be good for you (and the...

    New D&D Spinner Rack

What this says to me is that most sales of RPG books are through online vendors, not that sales are necessarily down in the extreme. In this quote, Erik says that pre-orders from distributors are down -- but does that include direct sales to online vendors such as Amazon.com? Lower print...

    Finally - I've got a 1e game!

Roll 3d6 in order, and make a character from that!

Viral Marketing for RPGs...Where is it?

The RPG equivalent for viral marketing would be sock accounts constantly evangelizing certain systems on internet forums. It would probably work much better if the companies hired models to go from town to town, starting new gaming groups at the biggest gamestores, then vanishing into the night.

    Which "Expedition" to get?

I'm afraid that I don't own any of these yet. I'm waiting for the Greyhawk expedition style book.

Fantasy Concepts: An OGL Fantasy Saga Project

Sorry, I didn't see the original thread, only this one. I'm working on a similar project.

Fantasy Concepts: An OGL Fantasy Saga Project

So this is going to be a freely available document when finished, correct?

    The Sources of D&D

That's why it sticks out in my mind, because I had assumed the Mind Flayer was Lovecraftian in nature. Hearing otherwise (from Gary) surprised me. I found the quote on Wikipedia: "The mind flayer I made up out of whole cloth using my imagination, but inspired by the cover of Brian Lumley's...

    The Sources of D&D

If you feel like scouring the Q&A with Gygax threads, several origins are revealed. Of the top of my head, I remember Gary saying that the original Mind Flayer was based off of a horror movie monster. I'll look over the thread and try to find a source for that.

Where do you order RPGs online?

    Amazon.com almost exclusively.

Pathfinder 1E Stop thinking of Pathfinder as magazine issues

Actually, people do complain about those prices. Luckily, most of the products above can be purchased from Amazon.com at a discount, and (in the States at least) they have free shipping if you order $25 of stuff at once. If Pathfinder ends up for sale on Amazon.com at a discount, then the price...

    The C&C poll

If you want to continue to attempt to troll me, do it via PM instead. Exactly. Since I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, I don't see the point in spending the time to type out a detailed critical response to an RPG ruleset.

    The C&C poll

I thought I made my feelings on this clear:

    The C&C poll

I don't really have any misunderstandings about how the game works. Also, I don't really think that presenting my criticisms to C&C evangelists is going to provide a solution for anyone involved. I'm perfectly happy to sell my C&C books and try out something new (or something new-again). I've...

    The C&C poll

I think that is partially the case in my scenario. While I have been playing 3.5, I started with 1e and the Molvay basic set, then I moved to 2e and then to 2e revised. So, while I have come most recently from 3.5, that's not my only background. However, as you noted, going from 3.5 to C&C can...

    The C&C poll

I ran my first C&C game tonight. It didn't work for us. I really wanted to like the system, but it's just not for me or my group.
