    Don't quite understand this :(

I'd walk you thru something Konhoya, no big deal. IM is a pretty good idea. But like everyone else has mentioned, DnD is a COMPLEX game, not just the ruleset necessarily, but the nitty gritty details that can only come from experience. The best way to get that is to learn from others, sort of...

Looking for some ideas for Plane of Shadow

i'd just go thru as many monster manuals as you can get your hands on, from any publisher, note creatures native to the plane of Shadow or related demi-planes, or just "weird" abberations that don't fit other places, and look at ways their ecologies might jive together. Someone else mentioned a...

Halo 2 versus Half Life 2

a couple guys i know have played and compared both. They both said they liked HL2 better than Halo2, but that Halo was still a good game. I've been playing Halo 2 on Heroic and it's very hard, only on mission 10 of 15. I've tinkered with Legendary on Campaign mode and LORD it is hard! I think it...

Halo 2 versus Half Life 2

Over i year i think. And although i never played it i heard it wasn't as good as the Xbox version, which i didn't quite understand. Pc has so much more power. Might have been a coding issue, i dunno. But the PC version did add in multiplayer options lacking on the xbox, like flying the banshee.

revising PHB to give flavor and focus

i love the idea of racial levels in general. UA and SSpecies offered some great ideas for customizing races.

    "Gaming Divorce"

i've never exactly booted players, but i wanted to. One guy wanted us to pick him up every time we played, adding like an hour and a half of driving time for a total stranger. We didn't ask him back. ive seen real problems with marriage dynamics in my groups though, with wives trying to...

    Use of props in games.

I'm running Masks of Nylarhotep (sp?) right now and that campaign has paper props out the wazoo. The initial NY setting has almost 25 clues for the investigators to find and piece together, way more than i would ever have created on my own. Brilliant.

Halo 2 versus Half Life 2

Half Life 2 does look like a pretty game. Too bad i don't have a puter fast enough to run it :( 6 years ago i bought a state-of-the-art daddy machine so i could play Half Life 1; i've never regretted it...

Why does DnD make force you to have magic to get better?

Piratecat, i'm with you, man. When i first got that book i thought it was just d20 modern rehashed, but a closer look revealed the true ingenuity. Right now i'm using it spliced with d20 Cthulhu and classic Cthulhu rules for a mishmash game of high adventure/horror. The rules blend really well...

Why does DnD make force you to have magic to get better?

My favorite campaign setting ever, i'm running it now, and implementing a lot of the rules i like. You're right, the rules cover a lot of running low-magic campaigns, and in addition, Midnight addresses many "issues" i have, as well as coherently tying together every race, class, religion and...

Halo 2 versus Half Life 2

I WANTED to like Doom 3, i was such a fan of the first ones, but alas, the game did not impress me beyond the first 2 hours of gameplay. Great monsters, really great, but they get boring to kill over and over and over...

Why does DnD make force you to have magic to get better?

THANK you kitsune9 for your detailed breakdown of the system. That was useful. Yes, i agree with everything you said. Personally, i don't like ultra-high campaigns. I think the numbers ratchet up unnecessarily and the DnD game grows too complicated. But some people really like that level of...

    Use of props in games.

well, hell, if that counts, i've spent many a dollar on miniatures that my players haven't even seen, just for the express purpose that i MIGHT need that monster/character one day. Sheesh, those things are addictive...

Why does DnD make force you to have magic to get better?

DnD assumes that as you advance in levels you can best increase AC via magic rings, spells, armor and shields. Enemies with high AC invariably wear rings of protection or bracers +4, with magic chainmail and whatnot. But what about a system that wasn't SO DEPENDENT on having magic to ever...

Halo 2 versus Half Life 2

ok, fellas, for those who've played both, how do they compare? I've played Halo2--good game, but i loved the first one too. Pros? Cons? Halo2 single player campaign's on the short side, even on Heroic. And it LOOKS like the first game, which isn't bad, but not real different, which would have...

What's the scariest thing that has happened to your characters?

(laughs) yeah, that's got to be a pretty popular DnDism...all the glory, none of the regret...

I've just eaten some Fiendish Buffalo and my tummy hurts . . .

I'd definitely have minor side effects for eating the fiendish meat. Excessive sweating, bad breath, CHA drop for a few hours, burning diarreah. Nothing to terribly hurt the party, after all, they have to eat it again pretty soon...

"How 'Dungeons' Changed the World" (Boston Globe Editorial)

I remember first seeing my cousin's DnD books when i was probably 8 or so. The early early 1st edition stuff back in the late 70's. I was enamoured by the game at first glance. Chock full of monsters, magic and mystery, it got me reading all sorts of fantasy, and even though i couldn't afford...

What's the scariest thing that has happened to your characters?

Man, that was great. I'll have to steal that idea. Now THAT's what i'm talking about! Well done. I'm sure that is something no one will ever forget from that gaming group. Actually, a lot of ideas shared here are great to borrow and use, a side effect i hadn't really considered.
