    Libris Mortis Art Gallery

libris yeah, some of the art is pretty good, but i doubt (i know) that the book doesn't have any particular innovation. There will be rehashed spells, feats, prestige classes and monsters, all bundled into a fantastic full color hardback. From a collectors standpoint i can understand why...

[Dungeon] Top 30 Greatest Adventures Discussion (Spoilers)

best adventure well, i haven't nearly played them all, but Return to the Tomb of Horrors by Bruce Cordell gets my vote. it even reprinted the ORIGINAL Tomb and bundled it in the box set. Man, that adventure was huge, 2nd edition, sure, but fantastic...and friggin deadly.

    Doing away with the battlemat

battlemats We learned long ago that 3e and 3.5 was just too tactic heavy for us. Combat CRAWLED to a slug-like pace, took hours to resolve, and wasn't fun. So we scaled down most of the AoO to work only under specific circumstances. But we still use the battlemat for drawing area of effects...

New to D&D and becoming a DM

new to Dnd i agree, you don't HAVE to have miniatures, but i've been using them for years now and i can't imagine having been without them for so long. For years and years before that we used scribbled sheets of paper (in the 1st edition days) marbles, pennies, and later on every enemy was...

anyone ever play in or run a Midnight campaign?

midnight Midnight is the best setting i've ever seen. Art, writing, quality, it's all top notch. I just purchased Fury of Shadow which is the boxed set that details the final drive of the Shadow of Izrador against Erethor and the Witch Queen. BUT, my personal campaign diverges greatly from the...

    what makes Eberron different

eberron Eberon is NOT different: it is old ideas that have been around for years, coddled together, repackage with new art and sold as "something completely different." Marketing-wise, this is fine for WoTC. They are as business that needs to make money, and the only way to do that is to...

    pogre's model and figure thread

minis Wow pogre, there's something to be said for applied talent and patience. Your sets are wonderful and the time you've put into it really shows. I'm sure your players are appreciative!! Me, i keep my maps mostly 2D nowadays, just because it's easier and less time consuming. narfellus

art oh, i don't have those other 2 books. Glad to know they're doing it though. I really like those full page pics.

    Complete Divine Full Page Art

This reminded me very much of the 2nd Ed. days with the full color panels. I've really been missing that from 3rd edition, and thought it was great that they added it back. That picture of Tiamat is wonderful and very evocative. I hope this is a trend they're setting with the full page art.

    Moment of Nostalgia

nostalgia well, what i miss most about the old edition of the game is the NEWNESS. It's rehashed fantasy now. This helps me be a better DM as i have had years of experience, and it forces me to try new stuff. On the downside, that raw energy is not there unless it's being fed from a group of...

d20 bubble bust?- High Prices, too many books

d20 hmmm...changing but not really dying. I can see that crothian. I have slowed down my book buying, and this relates to the original post. Personally, i feel that there are too many books rehashing the same material. We all know the rules, and the only thing to do is keep tweaking thos rules...

D&D Urban Legends: I new this guy who...

Ul gravity pulling the molecules down! Who would have ever thought????? Maybe i'll try that one day. I've heard all the stories over the years. My parents were GREATLY against it. It was a fight every month when Dragon came. I had to try and sneak the magazine out of the mailbox. Of course...

    Is D&D good?

D&D What a great thread. I just have to add my opinion. Is D&D evil? No, i don't think so, but i can see why many factions/families might believe otherwise. I started with roleplaying games near the beginning. From an early early age i was brought up on the ideas and imaginations of vastly...

    EXP - What's Your Method?

game day and I'm a DM looking for more players in the Raleigh/Durham area? I've even been thinking about going to the NC Game Day if i can (i might have family obligations that day, damn it). We play mostly a mishmash D&D 3.5, although i did just order the 6th ed. CoC today off Amazon, not that...

    EXP - What's Your Method?

Rel's System actually Rel, i like the sound of your system too. It wouldn't be too hard for me to mesh something like that with the point based XP we use. We already sort of do that by only allowing skills to be boosted if you've actually used them, but we could just as easily expand that to...

    EXP - What's Your Method?

charlotte gamer my brother is a DM/player and lives in Charlotte. He might be interested at zachary_hauser@med.unc.edu, if you want to email him. As for our XP rewards, i've never liked using ECL's and detailed CR's and all that crap. It bogs the game down in too many numbers for me. We...

    D20 Point/Buy Methodology?

crude Feel free to ask me more questions if you want. The guy that wrote it knows the system the best, but he wanted to make the transition from the class system as easy as possible by making the game look similar to what we're all used to. The trick can be the glut of options and feats that...

    Gamers in Durham/Raleigh/RTP

evening games Actually Slaughter, would you be interested in the occasional Cthulhu on a weekday? Another player of mine suggested that the game is only worth playing at night anyway.
