hypathetical 5e from YOU...Forked Thread: Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

Why not? Why aren't the consumers of some service qualified on commenting on the evolution of such service but the provider? If this is what you are implying, which it might be not. :)

hypathetical 5e from YOU...Forked Thread: Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

You are misunderstanding me, sir. I did not say to cut any group. What I said was that my main focus would be to pay attention to cut as less as possible. I have nothing against this but I do not see how it fits with the rest of your argument. I mean, if you consider 4e an improvement over 3e...

hypathetical 5e from YOU...Forked Thread: Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

I would not set my focus on people like you, that like 4e but I would try to keep my approach more open, trying to see through people that do not like it or at least are not convinced yet. I would try to make a game accessible to most people possible. Only if we settled to discuss on this kind...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo sets price of Pathfinder RPG PDF at $9.99!!!!!

It depends on how many units you sell. The more units you will sell the lower the cost. Of course unit price will affect sales so it gets a bit more complicated. The problem is that you do not really know how unit price will affect sales. You can make an estimation and based on that estimation...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo sets price of Pathfinder RPG PDF at $9.99!!!!!

Because units are infinite or not countable. There is cost of production but there is no cost per unit. Only if there was such a thing as "rate or intensity of sales" to be measured you could speak of cost per unit. But the rate of sales is so low to ever hinder the sales of other product so it...

Pathfinder 1E PDF Rules Prices Forked Thread: Pathfinder RPG PDF at $9.99!!!!!

It is really complicated. Usually, you could say that in print publishing the most important factor is distribution and its costs. If there were no distribution costs for the customer books could cost less than half as they do now. But it depends. It is a case by case matter.

WotC strategy of Planned Obsolescence? (Forked Thread: WotC 4E D&D bloat)

The very first book, PHB has balance and system issues -according to most of the fans you hear on the net.

WotC strategy of Planned Obsolescence? (Forked Thread: WotC 4E D&D bloat)

It is neither stupid nor suicidal. Many companies are doing this as long as their products can serve different needs. 3e, 4e, AD&D and BD&D are not just different versions. They are different games. They are not doing it because they studied it and found out that as things happen to be it would...

WotC strategy of Planned Obsolescence? (Forked Thread: WotC 4E D&D bloat)

Yeah, it is like this. Their strategy is like this. The only alternative business strategy would be to support more than one edition. They are not doing this though.

WotC strategy of Planned Obsolescence? (Forked Thread: WotC 4E D&D bloat)

I could see a slower production rate if they did dungeon and dragon in print. But I doubt this would make an edition much more resistant in time. It could extend edition life for an extra year perhaps? I guess they studied all these models, compared their ins and outs and settled for the most...

RSDancey replies to Goodman article (Forked Thread: Goodman rebuttal)

This is my belief too. OTOH WoW has been grabbing a very big share of the market that many niches compete about. I think a very informative measure would be the average hours subscribers spend in playing WoW in comparison with other similar hobby activities they have or they might be having.

Why are you saying this? It does not make sense to me. There are other simple games around but they play WoW instead.

These games cover a tiny niche of the horror superhero or superantihero: playing as vampires, werewolves etch. Furthermore I would consider their mechanics needlessly complicated too in respect to what they provide, that is what they spontaneously allow you to do in terms of effects and...

RSDancey replies to Goodman article (Forked Thread: Goodman rebuttal)

By inspiration I mean interesting storytelling. Storytelling not as of narrative fluff but rather as a sensational message which excites the consumer. It could be a cover about a hero fighting a huge dragon or the dwarf and his bear enduring voyage in the wow video commercial. Or the explosive...

I got what point you are trying to make. I just do not see it. The new-casual gamer needs to be inspired and as directly as possible comprehend and understand the game without any effort that may seem unattractive to him. If the game is interesting and offers him something that he cant attain...

RSDancey replies to Goodman article (Forked Thread: Goodman rebuttal)

These are complains of the hardcore fanbase invested and trained in 3e. I doubt that they make any real sense as you put it here. OTOH 4e is have an encounter based design and people may find that encounter after encounter things do not change much and the game feels repetitive. Their options or...

RSDancey replies to Goodman article (Forked Thread: Goodman rebuttal)

I get it that the kewl powers you are talking about are about the setting and the archetypes that come with it. Why cant you implement kewl powers in a way that takes no rules cross-referencing? Why cant you implement kewl powers in a direct and elegant way? If you want to fire laser beams you...

Cause of the hardcore fanbase. The reasons are historic, not functional. 4e is important because of this and the marketing power that comes with it. And even in the case 4e is more friendly than 3e, it is not friendly enough.

And I repeat. They should change this. They could make a tabletop equally interesting regarding archetypes and tactical or strategic gameplay but with a rules interface that could avoid the need of half the rules referencing that the game has now. The set up of the gameplay should have the less...

    OD&D = social mobility, 4e does not

Modern engineering knowledge, aside from general theoretic mathematic training is specialized for the modern production or experimentation chains. I doubt modern engineering education would give any advantage. OTOH people that have some basic survivability knowledge like how to make soap would...
