    OD&D = social mobility, 4e does not

What younger generations? I didn't read anything about younger generations.

    OD&D = social mobility, 4e does not

In a sentence, I think the OP is saying that OD&D's adventuring style was about trying to live with freedom while 4e's style is about wanting to follow a predetermined path.

It can be said with a theoretic certainty. If you have some acceptable theory that could show or model what you are talking about -on a purely abstract level (no need to any details)- I would be interested to discuss.

It is just technologically impossible. What you are saying about for the future it is never going to happen because theoretically the possibility does not exist. You cant replicate digitally real-life experiences. You cant digitally replicate an environment that can let you develop the feelings...

Agreed. And this is what I hope Wotc will want to do with D&D. As I said it would be a shame that they chose to suck it out dry instead.

I see it. You need the right game. Of course such a game would not be a game that tries to capitalize out of a segment of the market that follows it but a game that tries to expand and remain in the market. It is the difference of a classic product (Monopoly) versus a commercial product (M:tG)

Fuzzy math. I tried to explain it. You cannot just perceive the ideal solution and just go for it. Humans do not operate like this. Instead you expect more than one thing to happen, you ready yourself to have a response or a solution for more than one possible situation. You evaluate things of...

But you do not have to loop. Humans naturally attend a more fuzzy approach towards complex patterns and naturally expect more than just one thing to happen. They assign and value options or approaches probabilistically. The precision space that is left here is filled with group dynamics. Group...

If I were a Russian, I guess chess would be what comes in mind when someone says "a casual game" :) No, seriously mass media press and stuff carry chess matches columns. All the chess rules fit relatively in a 2 page brochure.

I see. For me, for an rpg that is played among a group the interesting qualities of complex and complicated come to be the same. This stands for the options the whole group or team may be finding itself due to the options of individual players. They have to be so many as to be unpredictable...

I disagree. A good roleplaying game should not require these tasks but naturally condition the players by its rules to roleplay their characters. For example in D&D and every other rpg you have actions you can choose and actions come with consequences. The more artificial these rules are the...

This is what I do not understand. Chess for example has relatively simple rules but the tactical and strategical possibilities are immense. A more complex game does not mean more options necessarily. It may mean more things to calculate and organize. As it sands 3e D&D and 4e suffer too much...

True dat. But then, sometimes something happens to click, some kind of a vision or something and if you pursue it you may find out you have made something awesome. Like the creators of good ol DnD. :)

Sure, I like these ideals too. These possibilities make part of what I have in mind. I do not like freeform myself either. Narrative control and GM fiat, as I have known of them, leave to loose a game and I want something more solid. Yet, on the other hand the board is limiting in as something...

Humans constantly need to learn and adapt. This follows the fact that humans are not perfect. They are trying to survive but they cannot see the future for example. The fact that humans are not perfect is remedied by the fact that they create internal visions (not only optical, the full spectrum...

But that idea you are talking about comes from visuals. I mean anyone can think of ideas. What one is capable of thinking of and what ends up in the top ten charts of pop culture is something that is not really relevant in the way you make it to be, I think. IMO the most impressive thing about...

You are correct in your assertion. In fact I tried to touch on this at some point. I think that D&D never really tried as hard as it could to reach the potential of being able to provide as smooth a tabletop experience as it could because it had space to expand its market and thus the game's...

It would be interesting I guess to see a game that draws the strong elements of spirit of the century and tries to have its take in a fantasy world of surviving monsters like D&D. Not necessarily using the mechanics of the fate system, a simpler core system like throw a D20 or D6 versus a target...

I would say a tabletop roleplaying game that can deliver the most fun action-fantasy combat. And we are not there yet, I think. Many D&D gamers like you may think we are. Come 5e, you may change your mind and like the newer edition even better. This is normal, no? I am just trying to tell my...
