Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

Or "gelatinous cube" or even some kind of "plant". And I think D&D elves are supposed to be dramatically different from humans in fluff-at least Tolkien elves are. Anyway, I believe the appeal to play non-humans for D&D players has a lot more to do with powers regarding the adventurer...

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

There is not such a thing really. What it takes is just the necessary skills to gain access to "databases" : you need to be literate for example to read books but decoding the information in these "databases" should not be difficult. If it happens to be then you happen to miss some references...

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

Well my-life-with-master (an indie game) or even white wolf games where dramatics are more focused and established make more sense to me than following the adventuring career of an elf as an adventurer-elf. In fact while D&D wants to provide some rules and fluff for this it really can not play...

Worst case scenario: Could WotC "break" the whole industry?

Not yet since but I could easily imagine something like this could be: "oh look at them they play super-heroes and monsters"... or even "they play fantasy battles" or something like that.

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

I am just saying what seems to naturally appeal to me. And I understand there is something to it more than what you are saying since Dragonborn were made with breasts for a reason. When you are saying "to play a character", "play" may hold many meanings some of which are valid, some not so...

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

But these creatures do not exist. They are the product of mythology or fiction which is always originated from human sensibilities. What you are talking about is better served by studies or documentaries regarding actual animal wild life and the like. I am not sure what you are saying here is...

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

I can understand the appeal for this but I find it only reasonable for something highly dramatic and thus almost definitely much shorter than an ever-going campaign that is supposed to get you from the beginning of your career to retirement. Comic books for example or cinema films could do...

Experts on other systems, why aren't they d&d?

You forget the dimension of time. Right now D&D is a "message" that is supposed to establish a way, a path for Hasbro to make money by producing and selling certain "goods" to certain "needs". So D&D today is this certain kind of "need" -for the part of the population it sells to. In a hundred...

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

This problem is a double-edged sword. If the mechanics made every race the best choice for some archetype-role, I would suspect to see in most games choices that reflect this, especially in 4e that archetypes-roles are fairly important in the game, mechanics wise. Eventually this would come down...

    'Zeno Clash' makers make sense..

Really? I may not be a native English speaker but your comment manages to offend me in the forums. I mean, it could be like you are suggesting I am put under judgment or what -since no-one likes trolls and what have you...

    'Zeno Clash' makers make sense..

Maybe it is a troll. Dunno, perhaps I misunderstood the spirit of your comment. The OP posted some news about the tactics a company is taking to deal with piracy. Your comment was like an effort to cast in negative light everything about this..."school of thought" -or at least so it seemed to...

    'Zeno Clash' makers make sense..

Cause he said that there are not a lot of good-aligned pirates out there. But since the company did take care to address them (pirates) it means that this demographic is significant. Intentions or behavior is not something discrete. Alignment in D&D is, but I think we are talking about the...

If I remember correctly they had mentioned digital D&D development in the previous report and I would guess that this is just the follow up.

Forked Thread: GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - 4e video game

If you like "relationship" more then go with it! Anyway the point was that to make these things possible there has to be some relationship. One kind of relationship is achieved through the respawning of random monsters when there is some kind of resource management that has to do with maps...

Forked Thread: GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - 4e video game

The question comes regarding multiple quests. Would they be totally separate or would there exist some influence, at least the first time you visit the map? Could-should you take the whole map in one go, or should you have a mechanism to force you choose one quest and make this decision...
