    Cost of Feats in Items

Anyone seen any rules for the cost of a feat in an item? I know there are some examples, but rather than search for them myself, I though someone might have seen something somewhere. I've been dreaming of boots of spring attack, but have no idea what the cost would be- probably haste as the...

    Digging while Invisible

I had recently been considering a spell that digs when I found one in Spells & Spellcraft- Dig. I was intending on using it to dig forty foot pits under the feet of my enemies. Of course, that only works when you're on earth, but still- could be fun. Now, here's the question: if one were...

Magic item for +10 Performance skill

People started riffing on the other options for these types of items since you brought up their cost- a point of some contention. I think they were meant more as comments on the topic than replies to your question- which you already got early on. And could have asked me, as I run the item...

Can you flank with ranged weapons?

PINNING Let me reiterate the pinning an opponent denies him his dex bonus and there's no chance of hitting a friend if you're firing at a pinned opponent. Add to this some unarmed attack/grappling feats for the fighter and you've got a fairly effective mundane combo.

So sell me on the Arcane Trickster...

thanks Thanks for all the replies- I was already pretty sold, but hadn't done a thorough comparison yet. I reckoned many of you already had, and lo! you did. My Wiz5/Rog2 is taking Wiz up to 7th (he wants an air mephit familiar) then one more lvl in Rog and he's qualified. Might be a bit...

Can you flank with ranged weapons?

Well.... The fighter could grapple the opponent. That'd deny the Dex bonus. However, it also gives you a 50% chance of hitting the fighter with a missile weapon. (phb123 table 8-8: the ONLY place this rule is located, oddly enough) If your fighter PINS the baddie, then you're golden- no...

So sell me on the Arcane Trickster...

I've got a Wiz/Rog who I'm considering taking into the Trickster PrC, but am tempted to just keep giving him Wiz & Rog levels. Those of you who've taken it, how's it treating you? I've heard it lauded as one of the finer PrC's and thought I'd ask why.

Item Crafters! where do you shop?

When you Craft your items, where does the gold go? Does it magically disappear from your pouch upon casting the spell to be placed into the item, or does your DM have you shop for appropriate ingredients? Obviously, you need a masterwork item for arms 'n' armor, but aside from that.... ground...

Magic Item Creation feats and extra requirements

materials What sort of materials do you make your PC's get in order to make an item? I mean, aside from the MW whateveritis for A&A, where does that gold go? Grind it up and sprinkle it on a brooch? Do they have to be in a major city to be able to get the esoteric materials necessary...

    What's up with Spider Climb?

fighting on the ceiling On the topic of Spider Climb, how do you all adjudicate characters- be they NPC or PC- who fight from the wall or ceiling under the influence of this spell- say, with slippers, so the 'bare feet' rule doesn't apply. I've always pictured people walking on the walls and...

Metamagic feats combined with Item Cration feats

As far as I know anyone capable of creating an item and casting a metamagicked spell can create the item using the mm'ed spell- it's just treated as being a spell of the appropriate level for all cost computations &tc. Being a bard does not, aside from not getting those bonus feats wizards get...

    Ranged healing spells?

Potions On a similar vein, has anyone had any experience with healing potions being used as grenade-like weapons? Hit the target with a ranged touch for 1d8+1, miss and splash damage for 1 healing? How would this affect the price of a potion of CLW? How about with no splash, so it's just...

    Hiding and AC Dex Bonus

ray of frost vs silent sound True, but I was considering the case of Silent Sound, where the beam is ultra-high sonics, so it's invisible and silent- plus since it's a vibration and not an impact, you don't can't trace back the force's vector to help you pin down the sniper.

    Hiding and AC Dex Bonus

If someone is successfully hiding and attacks a target from range, first, does that target get its Dex bonus to AC? ie, can it be sneak attacked? Secondly, if you're attacking with a spell that has only a somatic component (silent sound), would it be possible to remain hidden? There are rules...

Price an item that knows when you drop...

Contingency is it. 6th level. Ouch. So... how much for the effect of being able to remain conscious under 0hp? I know there's a feat that allows it, but don't know if there's a spell.

Price an item that knows when you drop...

True, it's not use activate, but it's certainly not always on, otherwise you'd never fall! The second time you go down, you stay down. And besides, slippers of spiderclimb are always on and they're SL * CL * 2000. Deathwatch certainly seems like an appropriate spell as an additional prerequisite.

Price an item that knows when you drop...

I thought of that, but any spell higher than first seems like overkill for being able to detect unconsciousness, I mean, second level divinations Find Traps or Detect Thoughts, even first level divinations Detect things like Undead, Alignment and the function of a magic item. Simply detecting...

Price an item that knows when you drop...

Scarab of Recovery With this ivory scarab pinned to one's chest, once a day, if a character's hit points drop below zero, he/she is magically healed of 1d8+3 points of damage. If this does not bring them above 0, it stabilizes them- as would any magical healing. Caster Level 3rd prereq: Cure...

    Weapon Finesse

realism vs. plausability I think, rather than saying it's for "realism", people really mean that it's for the sake of "plausability". Obviously magic isn't real. But a great deal of attention has been paid to rules that yield plausable results when used.

    Trips?

Are any of the "this can be used to trip" entries in the descriptions of weapons that aren't treated as range weapons? I know this point has been made, but I always thought any melee weapon could trip and that the only reason mention was made for those weapons was becaused of their...
