    XP for BBEGs

The party assaulted the Temple of Evil. They weren't prepared well, but survived, taking down a mess o' mooks and a couple of lieutenants. The high priest and several other named NPC's survived. As the Forces of Evil were pulling back to regroup, the Forces of Evil-Crushing popped away with a...

    Withdrawing from a Web?

only vs reach So, yes, it does provide cover- but not to those standing next to you. Important to note that it provides AoO protection from those with reach, though.

    Withdrawing from a Web?

tumbling And yet in the Tumble description of the SRD I find: If one rules that moving through a web is not a move action but rather a full-round action requiring a check that allows you to move if you succeed, this line seems to indicate tumbling shouldn't be allowed. Also, if you're...

    Withdrawing from a Web?

This is the point of view I espoused. A withdraw action is doing nothing but moving, but moving in a web requires something more than just moving- a strength check or escape artist check. Is this considered to be something more than just moving? Tearing through strands or wriggling around...

    Withdrawing from a Web?

Can you take the withdraw action while entangled in a web spell?

    Babelfish!

Beware of using drawbacks that would hardly be noticed to modify an item's price. I would consider such a drain flavor only- not nearly enough of an issue to warrant a price reduction.

    The Surprise Round

Are all initiatives rolled together or are the initiatives for those participating in the surprise round rolled, then the surprise round happens, then everyone else rolls initiative? I ask because actions taken during the surprise round may effect the dexterity of those who might yet roll their...

    2 quick questions on spells

You got it right- it's: 1d6 + (1/level). Not so sure about the Fireball question. I guess I'd use the same spatial mapping they give us for the floor dimension as I would for the vertical dimension.

Charm + Teleport = A Very Long Fall

teleport's range I checked, and Teleport's range is listed as: While I can see as how this could be interpreted as (You and touched objects) or (other touched willing creatures) I believe it's meant to be interpreted as (You) and (touched objects or other touched willing creatures)...

Charm + Teleport = A Very Long Fall

DM's Thing is, I started this thread and I'm the DM in question. The sorceress in my campaign might very well go for this tactic, but they all know what's good for the goose, etc. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't being a pushover DM in allowing the move.

    Don't fall!

simultanaity I see both sides of the argument here. However... That's not really an extrapolation, as falling to the ground is a free action and doesn't count against a character's movement. At what point does a jump become a fall? When do you start to get the free movement? I think what...

Charm + Teleport = A Very Long Fall

Good point re: Teleport's range. Do you have any sort of reference for this Symbol of Persuasion?

Charm + Teleport = A Very Long Fall

Proposed tactic: Sorceress casts Charm Person on a BBEG, moves in and teleports them both (since he's now willing) to some place rather high up in the air (the sorc having cast fly on herself) and drops the BBEG. Given that the BBEG fails his save vs a level one spell, I'd still say he'd get a...

    Mirror Image + Displacement

If the issue is targetting, what then if the mirror image is cast after the blur? Does the mirror image depict the target without the visual effects of any magic? What if the target is polymophed or the subject of another illusion spell? What if they're invisible? If the effect of the blur...

Can a goblin riding an ogre use Mounted Combat to defend the ogre?

diplomacy Very good point, and a good reference. Yet in that same article: Which leads me to believe that if, with a diplomacy check, your mount acts just like a mount trained for combat riding then Ride checks apply again and thus Mounted Combat would then apply as well.

    Sculpted Fireball

IIRC, line effects are place on the lines between squares, and effect the squares that touch the line. This would effectively double the volume of the line shape.

Another blinking blink question -- grappling

downsides Don't ignore the downsides of casting blink- there's a percent chance of your own attacks or spells missing due to you being on the wrong plane. This can be overcome, but at the cost of employing other magical effecgts.

    Haste/Slow?

what others While this question might belong in the HR forum, the thread doesn't, so forgive me but... Interesting interpretation. Are there any other spell pairs with the same 'counters & dispels' text that you've ruled the same way on?

Fighting a Gazer using a Mirror

From the SRD: Looking at the creature’s image (such as in a mirror or as part of an illusion) does not subject the viewer to a gaze attack. Now, if you're using a hand-mirror to fight a gazer, do you take any penalty to your attack? If so, I'm wondering- is there any effective way to use a...
