    D&D 5E (2014) The 5E Art is Awesome

I agree. To this day, whenever I teach/press gang new players into D&D, I pick up my AD&D 2e PH and show them that very same picture. It's perfect. Though I've always wondered about the red-hooded mage on the right; he looks like either he stashed part of the treasure some where else for...

You can't play with a man's heart like this!

Monte Cook Games, Thunder Plains, & A Petition

I can get behind that; improving a work of fiction that one feels is lacking in depth is a good thing. I have no objections. I do, however, question the demand for change based on the idea of cultural appropriation. Insufficiently researched doesn't have to necessarily translate into insulting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Video Game Worlds You Wish Were D&D 5E Settings

The old Magic: The Gathering world, before the events of the Weatherlight Saga. The whole plot relating to the Brother's War, the subsequent Dark, and the Ice Age. There's a lot of really cool stuff going on; even before the War itself the continent of Terisiare could be a great place for a...

Gen Con Takes Stand For Inclusiveness

Monte Cook Games, Thunder Plains, & A Petition

I'm a bit conflicted with my own opinions regarding the issue. On one hand, I think they did a relatively good job in terms of public relationships here, managing to defuse a problem before it grew bigger. The internet and social networks these days have a unique capacity to turn otherwise...

D&D 5E (2014) A different kind of dungeon crawl - the dungeon brawl for 5e

I love it! Stealing Dungeon Brawl methodology right now.

D&D 5E (2014) Hit Point Recovery Too Generous

Hm, you make a good point. I'll have to think it more carefully. Thanks!

D&D 5E (2014) How many hours of 5e do you play per week?

Same here. Once in a while we might be able to play twice in one month, but for the past 10-15 years, 5-6 hour sessions once per month have been our standard. Back in school I'd play much more often (daily, even), but the current rhythm sits pretty well with me.

    D&D 5E (2014) Polymorph into Non-Beasts

Hm, that migth not be a bad idea, all things considered. Sure, it'd require some tinkering to determine which parts of the monster get acquired when, but it should be doable. I'll give it a spin. Thanks! Well, so far the player is only asking for that very particular spell. We're in the...

D&D 5E (2014) What's your campaign storyline about? Here is mine.

My current campaign is set in Planescape, and it began in November 2013. System is Pathfinder, but transitioning to 5e. The central plot is that, after years of adventuring, the party finally decided to settle down and move onto higher goals, thus founding their own organization. After...

D&D 5E (2014) Hit Point Recovery Too Generous

There's a lot of great ideas in this thread! I like the ideas about making short rests last 8 hours and long rests a whole week (but only for healing, not for powers and spells) and rolling for wounds when reduced to 0 HP. I also found the suggestion of imposing 1 level of exhaustion when below...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e suitable for large groups?

The game should work without problems for 10 people. I remember running a 9-player game during the beta (in a slightly simplified version of Tomb of Horrors), 3 of which had never actually roleplayed anything at all, and it worked just fine. 5e has a lot of mechanics that work in favour of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Polymorph into Non-Beasts

In the process of moving from Pathfinder to 5e, one of the players has asked me about using the Polymorph spell to include non-beasts (he was fond of Form of the Dragon in PF). Just expanding the spell to include other types of creatures seems deceptively tempting, but I'm not sure if I'd be...

D&D 5E (2014) Knock Unconscious and Massive Damage

I agree with this. I think it flows better with the storytelling if the player first announces he's trying to knock the guy out rather than just attack and say it after, regardless of the fact the rules do not seem to specify when you have to make the call. To be honest, I usually bend the...

D&D 5E (2014) Products You Would Like to See WotC Publish For 5E

I really enjoyed the Frostburn/Stormwreck/Sandstorm/etc series from 3.5, and I would absolutely love seeing something like that in 5e. Focused enough to provide intriguing new mechanics and material, broad enough to be used with almost no extra tinkering. Setting-wise, seeing a big fat...
