    Non-combat RPGs?

Thanks guys. Will check out those systems... especially Dread. Crazy to use a Jenga tower! I'm thinking of putting together a game where players are investigative journalists. This would be more for PbP / collaborative writing with rules for those of us who like mechanics a little (I'm a rules...

    Non-combat RPGs?

Hey all, what are your favourite (or interesting) RPGs with a focus out of combat? Or, without combat? I'm interested in playing and possibly developing a system and setting that would involve no combat, instead focusing on investigation in various forms. A fairly true-to-life type game...

    Checks rolled for the players

I usually go for take 10 or even take 20, when the situation calls for it. Sometimes players get caught up role playing actions that take time but forget to roll (happens more in PbP), so a take 10/20 makes sense. I recently ran into a DM who actually expects us as players to ALWAYS tell him...

    Oracle--what am I missing?

Thanks for the tips, guys. I may try to build another Oracle if I retire this one... this PF Society thing is a twice a month gig that a buddy and I are doing to help encourage local RPG awareness. The guy running it is great, and in a normal game might even let me rebuild the character... but...

    Oracle--what am I missing?

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think Clouded Vision is the biggest problem--30 feet is enough for range close spells, anyway... I think the issue is that I had the class in my head one way and didn't have enough time to learn it well. If I rebuild the character I'll probably pick support...

    Oracle--what am I missing?

It's Pathfinder Society so we did 20 point buy... 10, 14, 10, 12, 13, 18 I think. I was hoping to be the divine spellcaster equivalent of a Sorceror... but there just don't seem to be many ranged spells. Lots of melee touch. I picked Clouded Vision for my curse and for Revelation I did Touch...

    Oracle--what am I missing?

Hey all, So I tried to run an Oracle tonight (Human, Flame mystery), at a Pathfinder Society event. We had a great time and I loved the RP elements of the class... But in combat I was absolutely useless. All the best spells I wanted to use are melee touch based and, well, having a STR mod of 0...

    D&D 4E Going to Pathfinder from 4E

Let us know how it goes and if there are any elements of 4E your group ends up houseruling in to PF.

Anyone do this...Run it like it was old school

I never waste time looking up a rule at the table. Wastes my precious time. When I was younger? Sure, let the lawyers look up the rules. I work 60 hours a week, so gaming time is precious. If it makes sense, that's how we rule the question. As a GM, your/my job is to make rules invisible...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder-ized Dark Sun?

Paizo has guidelines in the Core Rulebook (and in a separate PDF online) on how to convert monsters from 3.0/3.5 to PF... I'd just do that. I haven't seen any specific DarkSun/Pathfinder resources floating around but maybe someone else has?

    Need Help Altering a Class

I say treat this as an RP issue--instead of singing to inspire or strike fear etc it's words, tactics, encouragement, and such. Treat him like the 4e class Warlord as far as RP goes, and problem solved.

    Can someone explain....

That, right there, is exactly why I love the system. The system is not only great, but it fits the game style, too. (I crave Dark Heresy...)

    Can someone explain....

Roll d100 (or d% or 2d10 or however you want to do it) and if you rolled UNDER your stat (Weapon Skill or Ballistics Skill), it's a successful attack. Then you have to roll damage, compare to target's armour and defenses, etc. I'm not sure about the Deathwatch book, as I don't have it, but I'm...

is this GM bad or am i just a wuss?

As with most interpersonal issues, there may be fault on both sides... usually these types of problems are caused by a lack of up-front discussion of the players' and GM's expectations for the style of gameplay and level of challenge. If you can, talk to other players (new AND old) and get...

Savage Worlds fantasy home-brew campaign is recruiting players.

Wow, your world looks excellent! You've obviously put a lot of time into it. I'd love to say I could play but weeknights are tough right now... if only you'd said "Play by Post" ;) Good luck with the game!

    Point Buy

That's crazy. 15 point buy is a fun level of play, but in my experience the "average" D&D game is roughly equivalent to a 20 pt buy. Again, my groups usually do 4d6 drop lowest... *shrug*

    Identifying Magic Items

As far as I know, you are right. At least, that's usually how I play it. Part of the fun is for non-Wizards (or poorly trained wizards) to screw around with items that might end up being cursed or useless! ;)
  18. Is_907

    Point Buy

Are you sure? That seems VERY underpowered. Pathfinder Society uses 20pt buy. Or did you mean Paizo APs in 3.5 point buy? I haven't really used many official Paizo APs... and when I do, I end up with whatever the DM says for abilities heh. So if you're right, I just have to say, wow!

    Tracking Damage

If a player wants to know how much damage has been dealt to a monster, I tell. Most of the time, however, I just describe how badly something is hurt. I prefer descriptive combat over crunchy-combat, but have had to adapt that, depending on the players. For my current group (I'm not DMing now)...

    Point Buy

(We may need to split this thread to pursue this tangent, haha.) That must be the difference between you and the 4e DMs I played with. For them, combat was a way of life for PCs. If you're ever in my area, I'd gladly play 4e with you. Unfortunately, the only people playing it around here...
