  1. Grayhawk

    the quintessential orc (help?)

I like this one by Claudio Pozas.
  2. Grayhawk

Complete Warrior, anybody got it? What's in it?

If it's not too much hassle, what are the specifics on the spell less Paladin and Ranger?
  3. Grayhawk

    Bull's Strength etc.

I'm keeping the 1d4+1 as I like magic to be random, and for those with an uneven score the thrill of rolling a 4 is worth the hassle of having the spell grant varying bonuses, IMO. I'm using a duration of 10 min/level.
  4. Grayhawk

    Shield Bashing

I like that. Reminds me of rolling for psionics in 1e.

    Shield Bashing

0.5x Str bonus? Or do you believe that your off-hand can change from round to round, as it's written nowhere that you have to decide on handedness upon character creation? I think that you'd have to be ambidexterious to be able to switch off-hands, so I guess it could be allowed in 3e. As...

Which Knowledge skills (if any) do you let Bardic Knowledge emulate?

    Consequences of boosting healing spells?

Besides the lower item proliferation, some spells are reduced in power as well (I'm currently looking at the cleric's 'big 3': Divine Favor, Divine Power & Righteous Might. I'm also contemplating the removal of 3 the mental stat boosters - like Owl's Wisdom - as per core 3.0e.) Actually I've...

    Consequences of boosting healing spells?

Because good triumphs over evil? Besides the point about whether good or evil deities would grant the bigger bonus, you're right that it propably should be the same for each use of the spell. Btw, this is for a game using the standard array and with a lower magic level, hence the party's...

    Consequences of boosting healing spells?

I believe that the reason for WotC to make the cleric one of the toughest classes, is to give it some appeal, as not many want to merely play the party's band-aid. In 3.x characters have more HP due to Con bonusses at lower stats, max HP at first level and the fact that you get to roll for HP...

Double Grip w/ Negative STR Mod

    Double post.
  11. Grayhawk

Double Grip w/ Negative STR Mod

Not twice; one-and-a-half. (I know that that's what you meant - just trying to avoid confusion...)

    improved crit and keen

I use the same house rule as Nifft (where you only add your damage bonuses once on a crit). It seems that for a feat like Improved Critical (IC) to be worth it, you need a bunch of static damage bonuses, making it a worthwhile choice only for those that already deal great damage. When using the...

    Improved Overrun

3.5 PH p.157: 'You can make only one overrun attempt per round.' As the description of Improved Overrun doesn't mention any changes to this it remains the same.

    Improved Trip with any weapon?

I agree that it seems logical that you would use your legs to make an unarmed trip attempt, and as such it should be possible while wielding a sword & shield, for instance. But by that logic, it should also be possible to make an unarmed attack at any time you're armed (like allowing the...

    Improved Trip with any weapon?

Does anyone have the answers to my related follow-up questions? (Please find them 3 posts up from this one.) Just wondering if the lack of answers is due to it being painfully obvious or because no one actually knows...

Do you think this would unbalance the game?

My campaign is similar to this. I'm sorry if this is slightly off topic, but here's how I'm handling skill points: 1 extra skill points at each level to be used with a knowledge, craft or profession skill (4 at 1st level). All skills cost 1 point per rank, regardless of them being cross-class...
  17. Grayhawk

    Mechanic-Nerfed Cloak of Elvenkind (etc.)

I think that that's a great idea. (Obviously, it cheapens the ranger's special abilities, but as my ranger doesn't get these I'm perfectly fine with that.) If you still want it to make you better at hiding (especially while concealed), you might do the following: Cloak of Elvenkind This...

    Improved Trip with any weapon?

So trip attacks can only be made with a tripping weapon or as an unarmed attack. Does an unarmed attack require at least one hand to be free? Or can you (like Thanee suggested) trip with your legs? It seems that you should be able to make a leg sweep when making an unarmed trip attempt. But...

Orcs vs Goblinoids: Who's the top Evil Race?

When making a home-brew world I think it would be nice to go with either orcs or goblinoids - especially if you're not into a lot of sub races and things like that - as it can make for a simpler, more 'clean' setting. That said, I've got both orcs, goblinoids, gnolls and kobolds in my campaign...

Variant Rules from the DMG, for Combat in My Campaigns

My fumble rules are pretty similar - only difference is that my confirming roll is against a set DC of 15. My consequences of a fumble: For non-weapon wielders: If the fumble occurs while still having any actions left in the same round you lose these. If it occurs as the last thing in a round...
