Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

Despite your mysterious answer of NDA (WHATEVER COULD THAT MEAN?) I can only assume (if this wasn't an error) this means there has been a monster mathematics adjustment. If so, I am now even more excited to see this book :o

Why did you stop subscribing to DDI?

Yeah it's just terribly poor. I don't want to think about how slow the online monster builder is going to be.

    Cracks in the Crimson Cage

If anything demands new mechanics, it's an epic tier adventure and you did a fantastic job given what limitations you probably had. I do note that some of my comments are routinely justified in these adventures: Variable resistance on demons being replaced is just common sense by epic tier IMO...

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

I would assume it is probably deliberate to not follow the standard HP formula in this solos case (using d10s instead of D8s). Wizards have been known to make the odd weird HP error in their monsters from time to time though. I am actually not terribly worried about it having 120 HP more at...

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

Action recovery works at the end of the creatures turn. The alternative kind you are thinking of works a little like superior will and applies at the start of a creatures turn. Yes, by these mechanisms. Lockdowns were caused by the continual application of non save ends "Until X turn" effects...

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

This is pretty much the way they've been going since MM3. Monster Vaults Dragons were always the example of the model going forward. Not 100% true, because such effects are incredibly important for mitigating damage output. They now simply put do not trivialize the fight and instead of stacking...

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

Tiamat is actually one of the only pre-MM3 solos that is really designed very well. Just give her action recovery from this monster (seriously) and up her damage appropriately. And there you go.

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

To be frank, just give him levels, an extra head if you feel sadistic and update the damage. This solo is so well designed, you barely need to touch the base creature (powers wise that is) in order to make this work well in low epic. At upper epic, you should consider a recharge spit attack at...

D&D 4E Is it me or are 4E modules just not...exciting?

Except nearly every adventure is from like, 1-4 or something.

This year? Try since Dark Sun last year IMO. That's right, I went there.

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

Oh okay. I would probably use her only in a long campaign, where PCs had prepared to face her and had appropriate fire resistance. In that case I would rule it round to round (so count 30 to 30 and such forth). This monster isn't the sort of thing you just drop on a party, but if I say got the...

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

Do you mean initiative count 20 then (next turn after 30 would be her turn on count 20)? I've always found multiple initiative creatures and "End of turn" effects to be rather wonky myself. Unless you think of all three initiative values as one turn all together - just spread out on three...

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

I'm kind of confused. In one sense, the zones are going to last for a short period without affecting a PC (between the extremely high/low initiatives especially) with the original wording taken literally (without the trait that is). I'm assuming that your intent is that a zone placed on head 2s...

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

The trick is that the breath weapons are tracked per head, so I would assume the intention from the author is that each breath weapon lasts until that heads next turn. This is at least how I see the trait working, but it is going to be very DM interpretable.

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

Dear God. This is really something, it's a red dragon with THREE heads and some pretty impressive powers. Most importantly, it's one of the first monsters I've ever seen that shrugs off marks like water. Each turn it just ends a mark upon him and then presumably eats the rest of the party at his...

    D&D 4E Looking for a good 4e starter adventure

Keep on the Shadowfell is on Wizards website for free (IIRC), so that is worth looking into. Otherwise I would recommend HS1 the Slaying Stone and Reavers of Harkenfold (DM's Kit - sadly you have to buy the DM's kit for it).

D&D 4E Is it me or are 4E modules just not...exciting?

I agree, I ran this and after a certain point I realized just how poor many of the encounters were. So I decided to start scrapping the majority of them and making my own. The premise and story are kind of cool, but the adventure itself is a dud.

    Playtest: Warlock Updates

No because Warlocks are already on the low end of the damage scale, they are desperately needing a boost back up to other strikers. Due to their inability to get a lot of out of turn or minor action attacks, Warlocks are in no threat of being imbalanced.

    Playtest: Warlock Updates

It has always been an MBA. If you read the power it has a special line that allows it to be used as a melee basic attack.
