My Forge of Fury players-stay out!!

As a DM I do use superior forces now and then and my players have learned a long time ago that not every encounter can be overcome with a fight. Sometimes they need to run. The intention of the roper was to bring this message to new players and DMs. Obviously, if the players or DM don't get the...

Spiked chain wielders and how to DM for them?

With the increased deadlyness of tripping and whirlwind attack combined with the spell enlarge person and the viability of a chain-wielding fighter has been hugely increased in 3.5.

    [RPGA] Whoa!

Not all RPGA events are competition based, but in the various living campaigns people can react rather emotionally when something bad happens to their favourite character. I even have heard a story of somebody pulling a gun over an argument - but that is probably urban legend.

    Four deaths (almost!)

A yes, that particular encounter caused the life of 1 PC in the first round, brought two fighters to single digits in the following round and droped a 3rd fighter in the 3rd round. If it had not been for the slow of the wizard, I might have faced my first TPK. Sometime later they met a fiendish...

My Forge of Fury players-stay out!!

The party would have been wiped out if the dragon had the inclination to be careful. I played her as an arrogant cocky bastard who as of yet never had faced any serious opposition. So she took some unnecesary risks by facing the party partially on land. Even then it was a very heavy fight with...

    Adding Half Celestial/Fiend Templates

These probably refer to skill points earned through racial HD and not through class hit dice.

Summoned creatures identifying friend or foe

Sounds logical - then again, if that second layer of orcs is hostile to the front layer then why should they balk at the oppertunity to flank (even by an enemy)?

Dragon Disciple - a viable option?

Not to mention that while a bards knows a lot of spells, he cannot cast them very often. I currently have a brd 2/brb 2 build with point buy system and he is nearly as effective in combat as the pure fighter but with a lot better saves. Giving him DD levels would certainly work for him. I agree...

Which is more important for Bbn: Dex or Con?

Don't underestimate the power of wisdom! One of the greatest weaknesses of a barbarian (besides AC) is their will saves. I have seen the player in my campaign grumble often enough about failing his will save once again ;) Of course, wisdom also helps with those survival related skills as...

    Protection from Energy?

Quote from the SRD on resist energy: "Note: Resist energy overlaps (and does not stack with) protection from energy. If a character is warded by protection from energy and resist energy, the protection spell absorbs damage until its power is exhausted." I would say that since the spells do NOT...

    D&D 3.x Tower shield 3.5

By the rules: yes. Though as a DM I might be very tempted to forbid it. Then again, readying and removing a shield takes some time and a towershield is not something that is particular helpful to dexterity checks and attackrolls even when you are proficient with it.

    PokePaladin or PokeMount?

While seeing the humor of this thread, I don't agree with the fact that the change to the paladins warhorse is controversial or bad. In fact, I think it is a good change since it actually makes the ability worthwhile in all capaigns. I have seen too many players never bothering to call a...

Blind Spellcasters -- You don't face any direction.

Fact 1 - The spellcaster can place an spread spell at exactly the points he wants. There is no chance for a scatter. Facing is unimportant for these kind of spells if the wizard knows the area. He imagines the area while casting the spell and it then shoots towards it. If the wizard is facing...

(Way OT) How bad is the heat wave in Europe?

The heat wave is over now around here, but I don't think the heat ever was the biggest problem in the Netherlands. As others have pointed out, there are hotter parts on this world and people still live there. In any event, as far as I know no real records have been broken in the Netherlands as...

[Humor] News in the Realms !!! Headlines....

Burglary attempt gone awry - Late this night mr. Banks hear a lot of noise outside his him. When he went out, he found an unconscious gnome lying the trash in the alley at the back of his house. Apparently the burglar had fallen from the wall he was climbing. Later questioning learned that his...

(Way OT) How bad is the heat wave in Europe?

At this moment I am looking at a temperature bar of the last 100 years of the Netherlands. This year is not a record year at the moment, though it certainly can become one if these temperatures do not change for the coming month. Chances that it will be the hottest summer since temperatures have...

    Paralysis, Initiative and You

If I remember correctly, the RAW in 3.5 clearly state that the character has lost his turn for that round - I think it is described at the healing chapter, but I might be mistaken. I don't have the books with me so I cannot give you a quote. Now in case of a hold person I am inclined to allow a...

Goodbye Haste! Hello New Mandatory Spell!

In my opinion one should always compare the most favourable situations when discussing balance - as long as that most favourable assumption is a reasonable one to make. So you should never determine the power of scorching ray by looking at a 3rd level sorcerer. Touch ACs are generally speaking...

    D&D 3.x Tower Shields [3.5]

Does it really matter how the dwarf would get a 36 strength? Even though a couple of dragon discple levels would boost it way beyond 36. The question remains the same for any high strength character. Of course, weight in itself has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the towershield as a...

D&D 3.x [3.5] Boots of springing and striding.

Well, the enhancement bonus to movement from the boots do not stack with the enhancement bonus to movement from spells and the monk's class ability. So the limitation of movement stacking is already there. In any event, the dwarven cleric in full plate still hase the seem speed in 3.0 as in...
