Can a town exist in a dungeon(my players, stay out)?

Skullport in the FR has a direct access to the outside world where people do not have to travel through Undermountain. Since it is so secretive it makes a good place for all kinds of low life for illegal trade. It also has a connection with the Underdark, so traders from the Underdark that want...

    Killer DMs and you

As far as I know, I am not a killer DM. That is not to say that PCs do not die at my table. It means that in general the PCs can avoid their deaths by proper role-playing. Recently I have been playing in a game and it taught me one thing: players need a victory now and then or else they will...

What type of campaign do you like best?

Personally I prefer standard fantasy with a twist, but most of my players apparently prefer standard fantasy. Since I don't really mind, and the fun of players is really important for the game, I tend to run traditional fantasy games.

    Identify

A quote from the SRD on the alchemy check: and In short, if you do not allow the take 20 with alchemy you are making a house rule ;) Personally, I use identify as written with one very small difference. When an item has got multiple properties, which happens only very rarely, the caster...

Stat-blocks: In text, or in appendix?

I prefer an Appendix with ALL creatures, including the regular MM ones, at the back of the adventure which can be pulled out just like the map booklets in Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil and City of the Spider Queen. A reference purely to the MM irritates me greatly, because it forces me...

Who leads in the marching order?

You forgot an option ;) : * Somebody to find and disable traps (the rogue) The only people who are never placed at the front in a typical dungeon are the low-level wizards and bards. Since last adventure they probably are also never to be placed at the back anymore. Those dire apes circling...

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

Granted, I have not much experience with high level campaigns or even a high variety of low level campaigns. I do know that of all the wizards and sorcerers in my campaigns I have seen only one take haste as his first choice spell. It is a good spell, but at low levels it is a bit borring in the...

    [White Wolf] Demon: the Fallen

My impression from the game, and I have not read it fully yet, is that it mixes badly with the other dark world games. I also got the impression that the players will NOT be playing irredemable evil. It appears that when the angels where banished they were in a hell which slowly twisted them...

    Please rate Sharp-Shooting

I voted below average, because I thought cover was not really a situation that came up very often in most games. Of course, a few seconds later, I realized that cover of opponents by your own allies is actually a quite common occurance.

    Random Encounters?

When considering the question I realized I have not used a random encounter table in ages. That does not mean that I do not use encounters that are not related to the plot. Either I think of them right at that moment, which mainly happens in cities or I have got a list of several encounters I...

    Foreign language words for Shadow?

Of course, the down side with dictionarys as opposed to people is that they tend to give the litteral translation and not the best word to be used ;) Anyway, while in Dutch the word "donker" means dark, I am not sure that is the word you are looking for. The Dutch word "donker" is used mainly...

    Wrath & Rage

Wrath and Rage is a soft coverbook from the Races of Renown Series. It is a book about half-orcs and orcs. At the first page of the book the author immidiately points out that orcs are a violent and evil race and that this book is not going to change that. It promises to add depth to the race...

d20: The Death of Roleplaying! (not really)

While not a new game, White Wolves storytell system is still alive and kicking. They still print new products and I know many people still play that game.

    European Gamer Poll

The Dutch once again come a bit closer to the English, it seems to become a photo finish :D Anyway, the Dutch "Nederland" would translate in "Low Country" so the French Pay Bas is not so bad. Now for all you people who call the Netherlands "Holland", you are being a bit old fashioned. The last...

    Arcane Trickster?

By changing the exclussive class skill rules you should realize that you have made another wise very good prestige class even better. That extra level of a rogue is rather a waste except perhaps for the skill points. Though to be honest, decipher script is also not a favourite skill in our group...

Please rate Monkey Grip [2002 Thread]

Actually, the feat can be quite useful with reach weapons and a low-strength fighter/something. Sometimes the value of a shield should not be ignored at higher levels either. This way a fighter specialized in a 2H-weapon might have a better option then either dropping the shield or the weapon.

    Bizarre D&D Translations

In Dutch the term 'ranger' would most likely be translated as 'doler', which is in effect a rather formal word for somebody who travels a lot without any clear goal in mind (and it could be used for somebody looking for some purpose in life). Since it is a rather formal use of the word that is...

    A question about taking feats

I have no problems with characters taking a feat when the character does not qualify for the attribute score. After all, those can be changed on a temporary basis. There is a difference with BAB requirements though. Those can NEVER positively be influenced by magical items on a temporary basis...

Please rate Large and in Charge

There are more situations that just movement that provokes AoO. Why would a character be able to attack two opponents who rush by at the same time, while when a character graps something from the ground and then casts a spell would get only one? Admittedly, only rarely do I see that one...
