    Torm vs. Tyr

Sigh. First Tyr gets stuck doing a fair few out of character actions, then gets demoted/removed/killed. Frankly, it seems that the only thing that the current FR designers know how to do is remove big parts of what makes the Realms the Realms. We could always remove Tymora too. I mean, she...

How do you feel about Fluff in your Crunch?

As a lazy DM, I can only express my annoyance at having to strip out these 'fluffy' names from what should be a core book, in order for them to make sense in my campaign, which then means I have to deal with the 'Wait, when we say 'Shape Spell', we should be looking up the 'Golden Wyvern Adept'...

How do you feel about Fluff in your Crunch?

Keep Fluff for the Settings books. Seems pretty simple to me.

Why WOTC shouldn't have gotten rid of the Dungeon and Dragon magazine

As I said on another thread, some of the content has been quite fine. The Demonomicon, Realmslore article and the Ecology was all good stuff. There again, given who wrote the first two, it's really not surprising that they were good quality articles. I even enjoyed the COAFTW articles. My...

    Atonement in a desolated zone

Give him a suitable quest, perhaps with a bit of divine help. His god could send him a dream vision of something he has to take from the desolated area to civilisation, perhaps. Which god does the cleric in question follow? The games I play I treat Atonement as an Official Sanction from the...

    Power and Responsibility

I quite like political high level play, though it really depends on what people want from their game. Some people will enjoy that, other's will be quite happy with bigger and badder monsters to slay. D&D can fit them all in. The 'Concerns of the Mighty' sidebar in the Forgotten Realms Campaign...

Dragon #361 and Dungeon #152 news

If Dungeon and Dragon are not priorities for WoTC at the moment, they should have left it in the hands of those who would treat those magazines as priorities, rather then take on too much at once. Have there been some good articles? Sure. Only one feature, however, has taken advantage of the...

How Come There Is No "Wish" Spell?

I'm sad it's gone. I liked the spell. It felt to me that when your Wizard finally got to 9th Level, and had access to spells like Time Stop and Wish, he was getting somewhere. Finally being able to alter reality and bend it to his will, doing more then just bigger and better versions of...

    An end to scry-buff-teleport?

I just prevented PC's teleporting to areas they hadn't been before (with the exception of large cities, which had Teleportation 'Nodes' set up outside the walls, allowing mages to Teleport there). Add in a few clever uses of defensive magics, such as False Image, and you can cut out such simple...

Reworking of Races, Subraces and Existing Campaign Worlds

As long as there are proper cultural differences between the various Elven subraces, I've no problem with there being mechanical differences too. The Realms accomplished this for the most part, thanks to Races of Faerún and other previous works, particularly Elaine Cunningham's Evermeet. (Novel...

    The Demonomicon of Iggwilv: Graz'zt

Of course it's great. It's a Demonomicon of Iggwilv by James Jacob. Regardless of the format it's published in, it's going to be a quality article.

D&D 4E Bioware working on 4e Forgotten Realms MMO

I've always viewed NWN as much more right about DnD then wrong about it. YMMV, of course. With a really good DM, however, you can get damn close to true pen and paper play, if that's what you want.

    Anatomy of an Apocalypse

You can grab a PDF of it at Candlekeep, with much better formatting. It's the Anatomy of an Apocalypse download, 4th one on that list.

The Spellplague - what do we know/speculate about it?

Divine Stupidity. Sune, the goddess of love, forcing an arranged marriage on her friend Tymora? Tyr and Helm fighting over it? Ilmater moving to Brightwater? All quite bizarre acts, and acts that led Ed Greenwood to state 'those don't sound like my gods' Deities in the Real World? Uh.. I don't...

D&D 4E Bioware working on 4e Forgotten Realms MMO

It's a good thing it's not a real time game then, isn't it? All the combat is turn based, just like in Pen and Paper. NWN is close to a 98% conversion of the Pen and Paper rules into a video game.

    Anatomy of an Apocalypse

Uh.. I do seem to recall saying 'Some bits work better then others' Anyway, the author of this PDF talks about it somewhat on this thread over at Candlekeep, where he admits to jumping the gun a little. To be honest, it makes a whole lot more sense then anything the professional designers have...

gods in the PHB and custom clerics/special powers based on them?

It's a great idea and one that I love seeing in games, but runs counter to the aim of making the game simpler. I love the Speciality Priests from the 2nd Edition Realms Gods sourcebooks.

    Anatomy of an Apocalypse

It's fan made, and an attempt at squaring some of the utter insanity pumped out by WOTC with something resembling a reasoned plot. Some bits work better then others.

The 8 classes in the PHB...

Given the importance of Bards to the Realms, it's entirely possible that in the event of them not being in the PHB, they could be in the FRCG.

D&D 4E Bioware working on 4e Forgotten Realms MMO

Given Atari's financial troubles, it's possible EA and Bioware could do a deal with them to obtain the license for a FR MMO. Not that I'd like to see one set in 4th Edition Realms. Much more likely that any MMO made by Bioware will it's own IP. Or a Knights of the Old Republic one. Anyway...
