Forked Thread: Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

1- to refute your earlier bold assertion? It is possible to like a particular playstyle or character type and still want a minimum consistency. 2 - The HP issue you brought up is a bit off topic, but I believe that an axe dealing actual damages still leaves plenty of room for a variety of...

None of which I care for if in the end there is little correlation between the fluff and the crunch. Magic cards have fancy names and flavour text too (and often better art). I expect a little more from an rpg. 1 - Re-fluffing powers according to the order in which they are used is confusing and...

So THAT's why Regdar gets no love...

I’m not sure I understand how a clearly white/nordic dwarf means more diversity than a human of ambiguous ethnicity. Saying that dnd races have no identifiable ethnicity seems a bit hasty. Interestingly, the most intolerant and chauvinistic gamers i've met often played dwarves, with an...

I've played my share of froofy elves and insisted on having a high charisma even back when it was a useless stat. I still wanted an axe to deal actual injuries, even if that meant blood in my mullet. Also, I'm sure I could find some twisted bishi art involving lots of blood, bondage and...

A fix to HPs and armor is something I've been hoping for since AD&D1. Without going as graphic and specific as wfrp, i'd expect Legolas to be actually injured, not just demoralized by an axe (well, if we're talking about Orlando Bloom i'd want something far worse than wfrp) In that respect, the...

I practiced karate as a kid. When a particular move hurted before i was completely exhausted, it meant i was doing it wrong or didn't have a proper warm up (which means using those muscles even more) I did a little judo too (my father was a judo instructor). Some grapples would cause a greater...

If power descriptions are going to be so flexible and interchangeable, what’s the point of having them in the first place? or colourful names if they don't fit the effects? or power sources? or even classes? Power description is one of the few things that still differentiate classes with the...

Well, good for you. But isn't it a bit off topic?

Which one? The one where each power strains a particular muscle independently of any other (doesn’t make much sense to me) or the one where martial powers are actually regulated by some weird vancian-ish force (hardly "non-magical")? The problem is that no effort whatsoever was made to design...

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

and ogre/giant/troll, you forgot a big race! In one of my homebrews the humanoid races were: - human - gnomes (generic small race including dwarves, halflings, leprechauns, goblins...) - fairies (hawt nature spirits, nymphs, dryads, male and female elves...) - ogre (generic tall brutish race...

Well, you answered half of this yourself (look at the thread's title and what i wrote about Smite Evil) The rest of the answer being in the part of my post you quoted: "core mechanism for every class"

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

I'd hug many things but not a dragonborn or tiefling as pictured, let alone a group of them. I'm not sure i'd feel confortable around their lovers either. Maybe with a different look... does poking them with a ten foot pole count as a hug?

tut tut, language. There may be 7 yos around. You're seeing sexual connotations when there are none . "furry" doesn't imply anything sexual, unless you want it to.

Each power would have to strain a particular muscle, independently of any other. And in some cases you would be too tired to execute a low level daily move twice, but perfectly able to pull off a high level one. Doesn't work for me. This is why I would have preferred a common power point...

Why would I need to, "baby"? You haven't exactly debunked his points, or even bothered to address mine. What was the point of this fork if you are going to dismiss any answer so easily? If that was just venting, there are blogs for that.

What Dannyalcatraz said. Also, those were exceptions (what are the "etc" btw?), not a core mechanism for every class. So they were easier to ignore. I didn't even notice stunning fist because no one ever played a monk in my games. Rage is also easier to envision as an exhaustible resource...

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

I don't know. I'm actually open-minded about many things. "Tail-less, dreadlocked, boobed dragon people" is just beyond me. But whatever floats your boat, i guess :)
