New "which 8 classes are in PHB" speculation thread

Great predictions. Only one problem. Here is the confirmed list of classes by role: Fighter, Paladin = Defender. Cleric, Druid = Leader. Rogue, Ranger = Striker. Wizard = Controller. Roles: C / Video - Roles Defender: stand on the front lines and hold back the monsters, protect the party...

    the "truth" about classes

That, and by it's very nature the OGL is essentially a one-way mirror. Anything WotC likes, it keeps no one else can use it. But, anything generated on the outside (under the OGL) that isn't product identity (unique place and character names, or different rules names, ex: power points in M&M)...

    New Playtest up...

Except that in the first playtest report he used scare quotes ("") then commented that he was using scare quotes, and why he was using scare quotes. So no, it's not the same. This is the first time an official statement or release has been made indicating that there is a build for the Warlock.

Game Balance: what does it mean to you?

Ditto. We expect every other game we play to be fair. Everyone knows the rules and we all play by them. If you don't like the rules, don't play. That doesn't mean the rules are meaningless and they can be anything. Fair is you get a turn then I get a turn, not you go twice then I go once. I...

It's more likely they'll drop you like a bad habit if you complain.

    Playtesting

That's interesting. My experience (not with WotC) was being given the entire game as a beta, then our feedback was gathered and that was it. And like you, we didn't know what was in or out until the book hit the shelves.

    New Playtest up...

It took you two posts of typing "warlock confirmed" to get that the warlock was confirmed. You might need to get off the boards and catch some shut eye.

    Playtesting

I've playtested for Green Ronin before. The feedback really does depend on the designers. But, what you're looking for is slightly more about finding the breaks in the system than if it's fun. Yes, fun is just as important as the system. But fun is different for everyone, the system remains the...

"Turns out that even if you're a puppy, and even if you're poor, adventurers will still kill you." Yep. That's been true at my table.

New "which 8 classes are in PHB" speculation thread

It's been confirmed that there are only 8 classes in the new PHBI.

    New Playtest up...

I'm thinking that will be a Striker feature. Picking off the wounded sounds like a Rogue/Ranger kind of thing to do. Likely part of the role and therefore any class associated with it.

    the "truth" about classes

That article doesn't say a word about Warlords.

    New Playtest up...

Warlock build confirmed. Nothing about it being in PHBI. It also confirms that the Warblade isn't a direct copy of the new Fighter, or any other class for that matter. So Tome of Battle is still an early draft of 4th Edition.

    the "truth" about classes

Looking back over the Warlocks abilities and invocations, that class looks a lot like an Arcane Striker should, the HD, the combat oriented abilities, etc. I think the Sorcerer killed the Warlock and took his stuff.

    D&D 4E Un(der)served 4e Content Goldrush?

I like there stuff, i.e. I've read some of their books. I don't buy third party books, i.e. uh... I don't buy third party stuff.

    D&D 4E Un(der)served 4e Content Goldrush?

I couldn't care less. I like the stuff Green Ronin puts out. Malhavoc kicks ass too. But, I don't buy OGL/d20 books put out by third parties. And I won't. Ever. I'm in it to play D&D not some guy putting out books from his basement thinks D&D should be like. I love the ideas Monte Cook...

New "which 8 classes are in PHB" speculation thread

I don't know what's going to be final, but most predictions point to the wizard and sorcerer being in PB1 so that all those arcane spells can be used by more than one class. Which is why is likely you're right about the druid being in there as another controller option (only divine). I'd put the...

    Skills?

I think SAGA got it mostly right. I really like ditching skill points for a more streamlined system. All the points made on this thread about players only touching the skills are accurate from my experience. But, I think SAGA could go a step further, as per the 10th level meat-head being just...

Which is part of the point of the D&DI, you get ebooks out of the deal. And can take them with you wherever you go (with your internet access of course).
