I agree, in theory. Your statement is reasonable and sound. However, a rule for death-dealing sneak attacks (and I do mean one-shot kills) doesn't strike me as a huge rules gap. I mean, do we want a decent chance for PCs to suddenly be dropped without a fight? Not... really, at least, death...

Indeed. I don't begrudge someone wanting something different than D&D offers, and D&D surely has its weaknesses, but I don't think this is a good example of where D&D goes wrong. Being hide-bound by the rules, no matter the system, is a bad thing.

With the bigger pictures, I like the PHB and MM a lot more, but the DMG (which I liked a lot) a bit less. Still think the Dragonborn looks kinda dumb, but the MM cover looks a lot better than I was expecting, wish the skull wasn't green, though. ;)

I think we've been told minions have HP. Maybe we haven't. Regardless, I think a 1st level fighter ability that completely breaks "minions" is something Wizards is capable of balancing. This is not some intricate combo, it's a first level ability. Don't sweat it.

Indeed, +4 to attack is something you'll hopefully remember, and the Warlord is probably invested in reminding you. I haven't played any 4E demos, and while people have expressed concerns about the "one round buffs" I don't think it will be a problem. You have your BAB, this turn you get a +4...

There's been some excellent points, such as Siran's post. And of course, those monsters can always eat the gnolls, too... coupled with a reptile's slow metabolism... Maybe mammalian monsters hibernate during the winter? The yearly migration of the bird-monsters is something to keep an eye...

My original reply did not take into account that there's setting-specific classes and races, such as the lovely thri-kreen (well, I liked them when I was young) and oh so amazing (conceptually) defiler. So if there was a decent bit of crunch in the setting book, I'd totally buy it, though...
