That makes good sense, thanks for the insightful idea.

What stuns me about the current investigation into Apple and several publishers going to the agency model (where the publisher sets the price) is the only thing with any real power that was stopping Amazon's monopsony. If the agency model is killed then Amazon will have ridiculous levels of...

Could you please help me find small clay urns?

Four-and-a-half years is but a trifle in the tectonic view.

GAME OF THRONES #2:The Night Lands ACT 12 Chapter 2-2012

She was renamed due to the similarity between Osha and Asha, which is much more likely to be confusing if you can only hear the names. I suspect the stuff that happens in book 5 makes merging Asha and Victarion more difficult, and if my suspicions are right about both of them in book 6, it...

GAME OF THRONES #2:The Night Lands ACT 12 Chapter 2-2012

My friend was really irritated by that Stannis and Melisandre scene, preferring that it be implied. I suggested that implication takes a whole lot more screen time.

    Wrath of the Titans (spoilers)

I watched the first 2/3 of the remade Clash last weekend and couldn't believe how bad it was (in my opinion). How did a sequel get made?

Oh, how I hate PayPal, let me count the ways. . .

I suspect it's like picking a new bank: if you tell you're workmates and friends "I'm thinking of switching to Bank A", a number of them will tell you that they had a horrible experience and there's no way you should go there. Tell them you're going with Bank B and you'll get similar horror...

Oh, how I hate PayPal, let me count the ways. . .

For what it's worth, I use PayPal regularly and haven't had a single bad experience in years.

    Name this TV show.

Almost positive it's Gilligan's Island. If it also had a guy who had great difficulty navigating who lands on the island, only to leave without saving those stranded there, it's definitely Gilligan's Island.

    2012---In Remembrance.

Insightful article about Scruggs by Steve Martin in The New Yorker. Worth a quick read if you're at all curious about why he was so important — in part, super-fast picking that was also melodic, something he invented, completely changing banjo playing — and you can listen to the song at the end...

    Being Human (UK-spoilers)

Definitely its own beast, following not only different plot lines but even with differing universe rules, including (minor spoilers) .

    Being Human (UK-spoilers)

I quite enjoyed the previous seasons, but the first few of this season were a little rough. It's really come together again, though, and this week's episode was surprising and very enjoyable. What I'm particularly enjoying about the fact that there are US and UK series is the way they've...

What boardgames are you playing in 2012?

I mostly enjoy Thunderstone and quite enjoyed my one game of Thunderstone Advance, while Dominion has consistently left me cold (and I played it first, of course, even in playtest). Not sure why, though; I should consider that.

What boardgames are you playing in 2012?

Das Zepter! A bit too much math for the amount of fun for us to play it a lot, but we love it. Phoenicia dumbed it (or Outpost) down too much, eliminating the fun. I suspect there's something in-between that would make for an even better game.

Lords of Waterdeep Boardgame - Merric's Review

Great review! I was just looking at reviews on BGG, was a bit disappointed at what was there, and gave up to come here for other stuff. Surprise, exactly what I was looking for! (Are you going to post it at BGG?) This is the best news of all and what I was most concerned about. I don't mind...

The Walking Dead 2.13 - Besides the Dying Fire (season finale - SPOILERS)

It turns out that fingernails and hair don't continue growing after death; the apparent growth is a result of your flesh shrinking up, pulling it away from the base of your nails and hair, making them appear longer. The end result for zombie fingers is the same: more nail protruding!

You have evidence, and you can't trust anyone, what should you do?

Additionally, there are a lot of internet options for helping to make it much less likely that even powerful law enforcement wouldn't be able to wipe all traces if you went public: get it out onto as many bittorrent servers as possible, get it to the remaining Wikileaks folks, do what you can to...

The Walking Dead 2.13 - Besides the Dying Fire (season finale - SPOILERS)

In her semi-defense -- and mind you, she has been nastily duplicitous, so I dislike her character, too -- Rick had just told her "I killed the father of the baby in your womb." No matter how the situation came to be (almost), those are rarely words anyone would want to hear.

The Walking Dead 2.13 - Besides the Dying Fire (season finale - SPOILERS)

Good point. It did break my willing suspension of disbelief, but it's a tough problem to solve in the medium.
