the tablet war is heating up

Not sure who says "Honeycomb only has 600 apps", I don't hear that. Rather, I hear the accurate "Honeycomb only has 600 tablet-optimized apps". All 400,000+ iPhone apps upscale on the iPad, not a big deal. It's that the iPad has more than 120,000 tablet-optimized apps, ones that take full...

the tablet war is heating up

Wow, insane: Two Weeks Ago: Woot puts the HP TouchPad up for a day at $120 off, sells 612, pathetic by Woot status where items at that price and newness tend to sell thousands and Woot completely sells out its stock. Yesterday: Best Buy lets leak that they were shipped 270,000 TouchPads seven...

    Finally reading the trilogy...

I thought the same, and having LOTR in mind when I saw that it was these books resulted in some serious wincing, along the lines of seeing "finally trying wine" and then discovering you were referring to MD (Mad Dog) 20 20 or Night Train or Thunderbird. Oof.

    ALPHAS--Bill and Gary's Excellent Adventure/Mission Log #6. 2011

Last week's episode was another ho-hum why-am-I-watching one, but this week was good again. Plenty of promise then, it seems, just need consistency.

the tablet war is heating up

Yeah. If I was Samsung or HTC, say, I'd be looking very seriously at Windows Phone 7 and WebOS opportunities. There's nothing like the company you license your OS from suddenly selling directly to consumers to create insane channel conflict. How will devices from MMI (Motorola Mobility, the...

    ALPHAS--Never Let Me Go/Mission Log #5. 2011

I largely agree on the comedic aspect, but (adjusts nerd glasses) Eureka and Warehouse 13 are more scifi then Alphas? Or even the other way around? All three are fantasy with scifi trappings, as near as I can tell.

    TRUE BLOOD/Fang 6-I Wish I Was the Moon /2011--BLOOD COUNT 4

Yes! His movement, speech, and facial expressions were spot on, utterly convincing. It was so good, in fact, that it's almost easy to be lulled into thinking that the acting was easy because "that's actually Tommy so of course he acts like Tommy". Amazing.

    ALPHAS--Rosetta/Mission Log #4. 2011

I decided to give the show one more week and whaddya know, it was actually quite enjoyable! Best episode so far, by a significant margin.

An iOS device plus an Apple TV (the $99 device, not these rumored displays) does that with more flexibility, I say.

the tablet war is heating up

Baseless and a ridiculously bad business move. What would Apple add* to televisions that would make them worth super-high price points in a market that's already flooded with super discount pricing? I give this a less than 0.000000001% chance of happening. *That's not already provided by the...

    ALPHAS--Anger Management /Mission Log #3. 2011

Though my hopes were up, last night sealed the deal: there's just not enough interesting stuff there to make it worth watching. It wasn't just the episode itself, though it was quite mediocre; the "next week on Alphas" looked completely uninteresting, and the "and in upcoming episodes of Alphas"...

Out of print SF books coming as eBooks

I'm amazed it's been taking so long for so many out-of-print AND very-likely-to-never-again-be-in-print books to make it to the ebook market. I know it's a matter of securing rights, commonly from family members, and that it can be complicated sometimes; it just doesn't seem like it should take...

Definitely tragic. Regardless of whether one liked her attitude or her public persona, she was a hell of a singer.

    Hillarious LOST clip

That was awesome! At no point did I feel I wasted my time with the show, enjoyed it throughout and loved the ending.

the tablet war is heating up

As usual with these articles, those numbers are number of iPads actually sold to people and the Android tablet numbers are the number shipped to stores. Based on Google's own number of tablets running their OS -- both the 3.x tablet OSes and the 2.x non-tablet OSes running on tablets -- that...

    Mac OS X Lion

FWIW, all of the new Lion features are entirely optional; they're available but you can use all of the same familiar desktop metaphors as before, no penalty. You just don't get the advantages of the new thinking.

    Mac OS X Lion

Indeed, just as they did with the attempt to redefine it in 1984 when the command line was simply how computers worked. All computers, always. I think iOS on the iPad was a similar move. Sure you could buy a touchscreen tablet running Windows, but it used all the same metaphors as other PCs --...

Please, what's the term you mean? Monopolistic? Predicting a future for parts due to your introducing a new product that you believe will be incredibly popular and that no one else believes has a chance isn't monopolistic, it's risky as heck and yes, good business if you turn out to be right...
