The patent is, as patents are supposed to be, quite specific. Hard to say whether it overlaps Samsung's and LG's products. That said, this Apple patent is from 2010, so who knows, perhaps the patent comes before the products.

I would guess it's just a defensive patent, in case they ever want to do something with a curved screen. Tons of large company patents work that way.

Sounds perfect to me! It's being directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End), so Rudd should be a perfect fit.

If you're noticing an apparent battery life problem, letting it fully run down and shut itself off, then recharging to full may make a huge difference. iOS 7 has done a bad job of pulling battery status info from iOS 6, but a complete drain and recharge will solve the problem for most everyone.
