D&D 4E 4e is BROKEN if you ignore a major rule

I didn't know my dander was up. I'll have to have it checked. ;) However, the thing that interested me is the "solo Orcus" fight that seems to be the benchmark of a "OMGWTFBBQ OVERPOWERED! ERRATA NERF NOW!" power. I think a better guideline for brokenness needs to be used, but I'd shudder to...

That is "infinite oregano". It's part of the silliness.

D&D 4E 4e is BROKEN if you ignore a major rule

We probably hashed through this a bunch during 4e's launch with Blade Cascade, but why is a solo fight with Orcus the benchmark on if something breaks the game? The powers/magic items/combat system is set-up to support the D&D game as a whole. It seems like you are just taking bits out of...

Toys 'R Us has D&D, but...

Most likely they just have extra stock of the old set. It's the holidays and they pack the shelves with every bit of stock they have. That Toys R Us probably have some of the old sets left and put it out.

D&D Insider Character Builder Open Beta live

Requiring the .Net 3.0 framework and Direct X is more of a product of product that: looks good, is built well, and can be developed by multiple teams of developers. You can advantage of these tools to make flexible, modular software, that can be handed off to different development teams and not...

D&D Insider Character Builder Open Beta live

Some weird issues. If you notice that the gnoll, Drow, minotaur all say "Monster Manual" for their stats. The Drow should say the FR book, and the others should say their Dragon issues. It looks like they took the information from the proper sources, they just labelled it incorrectly. Although...

    E-Z Dungeon or Dragon Tiles?

I've been using a combo of everything. I usually lay down a wet erase battle matt as a base in case I need to draw anything out of the ordinary. I'll lay any specific map on top (like the poster maps from the recent 4e adventures). I'll use the EZ-Dungeons for dungeon walls and the like. I...

    Topps Shuts Down WizKids

I've been awaiting the Star Wars minis announcement. Just listening to the latest D&D podcast made me real curisous about it. Also surprising, the WoW minis game launches this week.

RPG comapnies and videogames - problems?

Aparently you forgot the Shadowrun game for the Sega Genesis. That was an RPG, and it was really fun.

4e "getting back to D&D's roots" how?

I think this is an excellent example of the difference between those who say 4e is like 1e, and those who disagree. It's a type of "forest for the trees" deal. Folks who say 4e goes back to the roots, are looking at the forest. They are seeing the game in generalities who the overall play...

    Barbarian is up!!!

The only problem with Rage-Strike is it's presentation. It's the first power in the article, so it's the first thing people look at and try to grok. People look at it and go, "THIS IS THE MAIN DAMAGE DEALING MECHANIC!" when it's not. It's just a way for a barbarian to use mutliple dailies (LIKE...

    Interview with Mike Mearls

I think you really missed the mark with what they were talking about here and let your preconcieved notions cloud your listening. The INTERVIEWER brings up M:tG, and Mike just doesn't crap on the interviewer, he turns it around and uses to discuss party roles, and teamwork. He basically says, he...

Licensees not going to 4e because of poor sales?

Hasbro is a publically traded company. All posting of earnings (sales information) is controlled by guidelines published by the SEC. This is done to prevent things like insider trading, pump and dump scams, and similiar stock market manipulations. Since WotC is owned by Hasbro, they don't...

    Thunderspire Labyrinth

Well, it's already seeded in the note that is discovered in the Water Cave. Also, the majority of the hooks presented at the start of H2, assume that the players are in Winterhaven. So, you have plenty of "out of the box" hooks. The "Keep on the Shadowfell Side Treks" article from last month's...

D&D minis scale compared to other mini lines

I have a quick little question about the D&D minis, their scale, and miniatures of a similiar scale. I currently have a decent amount of D&D minis, and I'm currently using them in my games (I have a decent supply of PC appropriate and monsters minis). However, I'm always looking for addition...

Warlock's Curse: Applied per enemy per round, or just per round?

You "apply" the curse damage bonus ONCE per round. Area effect spell, you only roll damage once, however, you apply that damage multiple times. You get your extra curse damage once per creature per round. There isn't a need for official clarification.

Cleave - Automatic hits on 2nd target?

Well, I think the "real" problem here is the need to break the paradigm of "hit points = physical health". I think it's important to remember that 4e uses hit point to express more than just physical health. It is health + morale + luck + destiny + boldness + any number of other factors. This is...
