    one hit kills, unsatisfying?

I see this differently. I would just say that such a Minion is always a Minion... the Netherworld can have faceless mooks just like any place else. Now, they're highly professional faceless mooks, just like a unit of SS panzergrenadiers would be. Indvidually those troopers are not a bunch of...

    one hit kills, unsatisfying?

I've tried 4E a couple times now (some gents graciously allowing me to join their game) but I haven't gotten to experience "real" Minions. In this game's house rules, Minions have reduced HP but not 1. I'd prefer if they had only 1 HP. My biggest complaint about 4E's gameplay, philosophical...

Overstock.com mistakenly lists Call of Cthulhu for 25% of MSRP

A tempting price but it's pretty obviously a mistake. I don't think this could even be at cost for them. I don't think it's a good idea to take advantage of somebody's typo.

    RuneQuest and Traveller

Excellent quality. I've had no problems using them (I actually have a bunch of copies of original Traveller in various forms... Starter Traveller, the Traveller Book, a couple different reprints, etc.).

    RuneQuest and Traveller

My thoughts regarding Mungoose: caveat emptor. Traveller: The reprints of "classic" Traveller from Far Future Enterprises / Marc Miller are the old Traveller books, just like they were in the old days. The game still holds up exceedingly well after all these years and the other editions that...

Just me, or are 4th ed Deluxe books...tacky? :/

Because WOTC would overcharge for it? The similar Chaosium book wasn't insanely expensive... about the price of a "regular" WOTC deluxe book, iirc.

    That would be sweet.

A Gaming Table My Wife Will Let Me Have

Relativitism blah blah. Whatever. I'm just saying that it's a fact that there are hungry people in the world. The fact of the existence of skinny kids in Africa doesn't stop people from having hobbies per se, especially relatively cheap hobbies like gaming, but the fact is we owe them some...

Open grave Excerpt: Demilich (and other lich lore)

The fluff in that article was pretty cool (the lore). Void liches sound fun. As to the demilich... my inclination would have been to make it a level 30 creature, since they're supposed to be the pinnacle of undead nastiness, but I suppose that's not a big deal either way.

A Gaming Table My Wife Will Let Me Have

Well, there's 10k laying around and then there's 10k laying around. If someone did happen to have 10k they were interested in dropping on a game table, they should probably look at an inventory of their recent charitable contributions, whether they or their family have any outstanding debt, etc...

    Wargames for casual newcomers?

Commands and Colors: Ancients is excellent if you want a card driven game like Memoir '44 but want more depth and tactical complexity. It's my favorite of the Borg card driven wargames. Also, war elephants. Federation Commander is superb. It's SFB lite, which is a good thing. It plays fast, has...

    Wargames for casual newcomers?

I think Memoir '44 is a good choice from the standpoint that it is light, fun and fast-paced. It's fairly abstract, though, so you may not be able to visualize what's happening. You're moving around whole battalions at a time. If you want to zoom in and get your Band of Brothers on, I highly...

Holy cow! (Awesome music video / LARP thing)

Wasting beer = a crime. Wasting Tecate = not a crime. Draw your own conclusions. ;)

Killed by your own party member!

That's some pretty great stuff! I must admit, I got a "team kill" one time in a modern game. One of our party members was being held at gunpoint by a villain. My character had a pistol on him, as did another. We both decided to take our shots. My buddy flubbed it and shot our girl in the leg...

A Gaming Table My Wife Will Let Me Have

Well I declare. "Luxury gaming". Whodathunkit? I imagine a group of well-heeled gamers dressed in tuxedoes imbibing cognac and single malt scotch while gathered around the Sultan for a rousing game of Diplomacy. I sure wish I was one of those guys....

    Have you played these boardgames?

I still haven't played any of these. The most interesting one to me is Twilight Struggle. I'd definitely play that. I might end up playing Race some day, as a friend has it. Generally, though, these aren't the droids I'm looking for.

How is that babe in the barely there armor getting any AC bonus?

You actually "HATE" those pictures? You might be the only one. Well, you and Gloria Steinem. Either a given artistic piece actually works or it doesn't. Oftentimes there's a scantily-clad women there just to excite prurient interest and it doesn't really work or do anything. That's quite dumb...

    Minions and the Iliad

Depends on what kind of monster. A scabby, illiterate brigand? Once or twice. How many times would Conan have to hit a brigand? That's your answer. A big hulking monster, on the other hand... a lot I suppose. It doesn't really matter. But Larry, Darryl and Darryl shouldn't each have the hit...

    Minions and the Iliad

Good points. Perhaps such a world, if it conformed to the typical quasi-medieval D&D milieu, would be sort of like what the Homeric world might have evolved into if certain things had been otherwise (impossible, but for the fact that it's fantasy). I don't mean that you'd have thureophoroi and...
