    Vikings D20

If I may make a suggestion that some people in this thread may wish to "boo" me for... ;) Beware of a symptom called "feature creep" in program development that is equally applicable to publishing. It's basically where the practice of adding "just one more thing" cripples the original...

RPG Authors: How Do You Do It?

Now, I could be going "two plus two equals five", but.... I don't know if this is even an option for you, but... If your part-time online job pays so well that it beats out your wife's full time job, AND your other job is a "suck-alicious" night-time job, then have you considered expanding...

Pay for this, pay for that? ...

You know what I'm finding interesting? A lot of people are saying, "pay for a GM? No way! That's a hobby and the guy who's GMing should do it for the love of the game!" Yet in a lot of cases, these same posters are also saying, "but I'd certainly pay for an online game! Consider the...

What's with all the new folks?

I doubt that there's much of a mystery or external influence at work. It's more likely that you yourself have finally begun noticing the natural conversion of lurkers into posters that happens on most boards. I've been here for "a while", lurking, usually. Most days, there's nothing very...

Help me introduce the game to my wife

I agree. Besides, starting her learning of roleplaying with higher level characters will create a skewed view of what a "starting" character is supposed to be like. There's a risk that she's never want to start with anything less than "heroric superheroes" as a beginning character. Keep it...

Help me introduce the game to my wife

I have successfully introduced several people to roleplaying, (three of them women, one of them my wife), I agree with much of what Wolf70 says here. Use a simple short adventure. Meke the villian be an ordinary thug/group of "bad guys" humanoids, or alternatly make them a band of goblinoids...

    Royal Gargoleer - Prestige Class

I notice no comments on my edits and suggestions... I hope that I haven't been too forward. I'm doing this purely in the spirit of (hopefully) improving something that looks really cool to me. Anyway, in the face of no objections, I have forged on and given the same treatment to your Gargolic...

    Royal Gargoleer - Prestige Class

Okay, since your post is rather large, I'll address it a section at a time. First off, I'm looking at the Royal Gargoleer Prestige Class. So that we're using the same lingo, I'll use the following display conventions: Altered text, usually correcting a minor grammatical or typographical...

    Royal Gargoleer - Prestige Class

Sorry about that, I feared that I was going to create that impression. Really, it wasn't my intent at all! I'll grab a local copy of your first post and give it the "fine-tooth comb" treatment. Then, I'll post some specific passages that confused me. I appreciate that you're taking it so...

    Throw out XPs!

Looks interesting... Did you mean to say that the second character example would have 50 CP, not 90? (3+2)*10=50, not 90.... Or does this work the following way: Char Level ...|... CP awarded each Level ------------------------------------- .... level 1 ...|... 10 CP .... level 2 ...|... 20...

It's later!!! Ready yet? ;) Okay, so it's only one day later... I'm eager!! :D

    Royal Gargoleer - Prestige Class

This sounds like a fascinating prestige class and template! :) However, there are so many spelling and grammatical errors that I'm not really sure how this works. For example, it looks like you're missing the word "plus" in several sentences and in a couple of places there are sentences that...

Can someone feed me a link to the download for this setting? The Wizards site is a tad bit huge! :-)

Racecraft- Players making their own races... Now with an exciting offer!

Looking good. Along with the additions that you plan to make, may I offer two suggestions: 1) Immediately after your introduction, place a hyperlinked table of contents for the various sections below. The "anchor" tag is your friend... ;) 2) Underneath the title, put a "Last Updated:" or...

This keeps happening, why? No, really... why?

Well then, here's another question for those who feel like answering: If you WERE to create a "new" race, and it wasn't going to be a "cat man", "alt.elf", or "Half-Drac", then just what WOULD you create? A "Lemur Man", "Stone Dwaf", "Half-Basilisk"?

This keeps happening, why? No, really... why?

Hmmm.... You may have a point there. Also, I seem to recall that 2nd Ed AD&D had a bit more of a focus on Elven subtypes than other races too... This may have begun the trend. Perhaps, although this doesn't explain the lack of other (animal)-people races. WOTC hasn't published a lot of...

This keeps happening, why? No, really... why?

Okay, so we've got one published setting that goes beyond the "big three". Looks like I'll be checking out Red Steel. Let's hope that this will turn the tide somewhat.

This keeps happening, why? No, really... why?

Well, that'll explain the multitude of Elven subtypes, but still leaves we wondering why there's no Dwarven, Orcish, et al subtypes. As for the cat peoples, sometimes there's a lot of work put into them, although I do sse your point... Take one of the many already existing cat races, tweak it...

This keeps happening, why? No, really... why?

I find that more often than one would expect, whenever someone posts their new/unique/cool/etc race, they fall into one of three different stereotyped "racial genres": 1) Cat people 2) Elven subtype 3) Half-Draconic Race Now rather than discuss opinions on these three racial types...
