What's Next For D&D? Live From Origins - D&D Beyond

Fair enough: they weren't malicious, just incompetent. It's the theme of WotC's forays into the electronic realm for the last decade or so.

What's Next For D&D? Live From Origins - D&D Beyond

I think you misunderstand my comment. In no way was I defending the decision to move the 4e character builder to online only and put it behind a pay wall. That was atrocious. But the offline builder was a great tool. I have friends who haven't played DnD in years who downloaded it and made...

What's Next For D&D? Live From Origins - D&D Beyond

Indeed, but everything 4th edition did, whether for good or ill, had to be sacrificed on the altar of nostalgia that is 5e. So we all had to take a step back in time to the stone age, and watch WotC issue cease and desist orders to people just for posting their homebrew online character sheets...

[UPDATED] Here's Mike Mearls' New D&D 5E Initiative System

That's one of the big reasons why we just use cyclical initiative. It makes everything easier and faster, and cuts down on bookkeeping.

[UPDATED] Here's Mike Mearls' New D&D 5E Initiative System

Cyclical initiative is a huge timesaver. Rolemaster and DnD were the same IIRC back in the day when everything was cyclical (even AD&D IIRC, though correct me if I am wrong). Rolemaster, being always a bit more detailed system, went through a couple of different evolutions. The companion books...

[UPDATED] Here's Mike Mearls' New D&D 5E Initiative System

It sounded to me at least like he was just blowing the question about what was good about 4e off. It was kind of like the developers of 5e promising a 4e/tactics 'module' that never really materialized. I think they're still in denial that 4e had some things that worked, and that throwing them...

[UPDATED] Here's Mike Mearls' New D&D 5E Initiative System

Mearls is realizing that the DnD system is too basic and simplistic; the same could be said for many other elements of the system. I think people are starting to realize that, now that the nostalgia has worn off. 4th Edition is looking a lot better in hindsight, just like Obama now looks a lot...

New DM Screen Coming In September

Looks taller though... at least I think it does. That is an improvement over the currently existing one, which my players can unfortunately see over.

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

Ah, I see. I'm not sure if they are planning a new version of the Atlas or not (or an updated version for the new Rolemaster). I know he is adding some new adventures into the revised edition of the Haalkitaine book though.

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

The original creator of Shadow World (Terry K. Amthor) is still publishing adventures and regional books for Shadow World. Emer III and Xa-ar came out a few years ago, as well as Tales from the Green Gryphon Inn, and he is working on additional books (like Emer IV) as well as updating older ones...

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

It can be an issue, though the developers of the new edition (RMU) have made an effort to simplify and streamline the game, so it shouldn't be as much of an issue as in the past (when we had seven Companions I think full of additional rules!).

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

I think that is one of the great strengths of Rolemaster: so many customizable rules, that if you don't like one, you can alter it to your liking. There are downsides of course to that, but the ability to easily make the game how I want it is priceless to me.

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

No worries! The system was fully consistent or developed in the core books; it was only fully fleshed out in the companions and in Spacemaster, which might have been why you didn't remember it. FYI, the new RM system (RMU) is getting rid of the phased combat system for more of a...

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

They were actually part of the core rules. In Arms Law (second edition Rolemaster), the animal and crush charts had F criticals, and in Spell Law, some of the elemental attack tables like Ice Bolt and Lightning Bolt had criticals as high as J. Come to the Dark Side!

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

Yes, it might be best to wait till closer to publication, as a few things have changed that could make a significant impact. The size rules and turn/initiative structure have been cleaned up, the spellcasting procedures and armor penalties have been simplified, and some other changes. We're...

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

It might be good to do a true 'What's New with ICE' to let people know of the recent resurrection of the ICE name and the general products they are preparing for publication. I think it is a fair criticism to say that the article is mostly to do with HARP rather than ICE, but that doesn't mean...

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

Yes, Rolemaster has the same system: crits beyond E are multiple crits, with F = E+A, G=E+B, etc., just exactly as you say here for Spacemaster.

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

Yes, they finally got the rights to the ICE name back just recently. It is the ICE guys who are making RMU, I am pretty sure.

What's New With Iron Crown Enterprises?

They are making steady progress. Latest report was that Character and Arms Law are relatively polished and close to their final form now, and they are going over Spell Law, Creature Law, and Treasure Law. The developers comments on the boards suggest they are getting pretty close I think...

The Noble is 5E's Warlord - A Preview Of A TOUCH OF CLASS

Doesn't seem much like a Warlord to me it if has no martial weapons and no armor. In fact, that doesn't really even seem to fit the word 'noble' in a medieval context, since nobles were defined as 'those who fight' (bellatores), meaning those trained to fight on horseback with heavy weapons and...
