I know this is superficial, but I have to say... I am not loving that cover art.

Rules FAQ How Does Mounted Combat Work in D&D 5E?

Yes, properly, the term should be 'downed' or something like that. Prone means especially lying face down. Lying face up would be supine. If you do use the optional facing rules, this could matter, as there is a difference between lying on your back in combat (in which case you have a chance...

Rules FAQ How Does Stealth Work in D&D 5E?

This was another one of 4e's babies that 5e threw out with the bathwater. The mess we have now in 5e is the result. I enjoy these ENWorld 5e rules articles because they help clarify much of the ambiguity that is inherent in the new system. I would much rather have rules rather than vague and...

Rules FAQ How Does Concentration Work in D&D 5E?

That is the big deal for me, and why Shield is so good. If you had to declare it before the attack were rolled, it might not always be an automatic pick. But having the ability to say, 'I'm hit? Oh, no, I'm not' is extremely strong, especially when you will most likely know specifically how much...

Rules FAQ How Does Concentration Work in D&D 5E?

This is one of my biggest problems with 5e, and something I hope a new edition will fix. I can make my own rulings all day long. Indeed, I could come up with my own entire system. But I don't have the time for that. So instead of having to do all that myself, I'd prefer to pay WotC to make a...

Rules FAQ How Does Concentration Work in D&D 5E?

I seem to remember some somewhat confusing or conflicting rulings on this from Crawford and perhaps also Mearls? I do remember someone at WotC clarifying that the missiles strike simultaneously, meaning you just roll on d4 (1d4+1) and each missile does exactly that damage even if there are...

Rules FAQ How Does Concentration Work in D&D 5E?

Interesting about Magic Missile. So basically, anyone who has been knocked unconscious, to 0 HP, who is then hit by a Magic Missile spell (3 darts) is instakilled?

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance reviews are out

At this point, I'm just flabbergasted. The game is a disaster. The fact that WotC has actually gone all-in and bought the studio raises the damage to outright catastrophe. I have not one ounce of confidence in this studio and will not buy another game by them.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance reviews are out

They seem to keep making that very same mistake. D&D should be a flagship videogame franchise. Instead, we get this. I had the chance to play it for a few hours tonight, and it is terrible. Repetitive gameplay, poor animations, laggy, clunky action... wow, it is really not a good game. I loved...

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance reviews are out

PC Gamer gave it an 82, which I think is the highest of any reviewer I've seen. So perhaps there is some hope. Overall, though, the critic reviews are mediocre to outright bad, and the player reviews on the whole seem similar.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance getting mediocre to bad reviews

Make of it what you will, but the new Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is getting poor reviews. IGN's was especially unfavorable (4/10), but I don't think has been included in the Metacritic reviews yet: https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/dungeons-dragons-dark-alliance/critic-reviews

I Am For The Darkmaster, Actually

Note too that electronic character sheets can make character creation a lot faster than it used to be in Pen and Paper back in the Ancient Days. Things like racial stats and talents, professional skill costs, and culture ranks are literally done at the click of a button. For RMU, I've also...

I Am For The Darkmaster, Actually

Nick is still the one in charge of ICE; Jonathan Dale is now line editor for RM (and is doing a great job too IMHO). I should clarify that there is still a movement chart in RMU, but there is also an option to ignore it and just spend action points (each point = 25% activity) to move. So when...

I Am For The Darkmaster, Actually

Yes, and personally, I think another factor was that the edition of Rolemaster that released earlier in the 90s (RMSS) made some changes to the system that not everyone liked. That's why the new edition is called 'Unified' -- it's trying to take the best of both worlds (RM2 and RMSS) and give it...
