    D&D 5E (2014) Just wrapped up four consecutive days of D&D 5th.

Yeah, sorry I didn't mention that or add it into my numbers - will edit it. My overall observation was - roll low with Hit Dice recovery, and only regaining Half Hit Dice per long rest, and the small recovery and dwindling resource definitely wasn't game-breaking.

    D&D 5E (2014) Just wrapped up four consecutive days of D&D 5th.

For the Starter Set, we all went into it knowing that it was going to be a chance to learn the rules, and maybe play a character class or two we normally don't play to try them out. Our goal of a long-term campaign with Tyranny of Dragons with be a bit more serious. That being the case, we...

    D&D 5E (2014) Just wrapped up four consecutive days of D&D 5th.

Glad to hear it! 4E wasn't our cup of tea, either, but we are really enjoying some of the "4E-like" elements of 5E that we never thought we would before actually sitting down and playing the game. I was pretty excited after playing the last for days, and my enthusiasm for the system led me to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Just wrapped up four consecutive days of D&D 5th.

I mentioned "when he went to use his shortsword" in my post - My Rogue actually ran out of arrows for the shortbow while exploring one area of the module with nowhere to replenish them. The text states that you can recover half of the arrows you shoot during a combat. That said, if you carry a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Just wrapped up four consecutive days of D&D 5th.

Some additional thoughts (apologies in advance for run on sentences): The Halfling Rogue in the Starter spent a lot of time using his bow with success. The "Lucky" reroll a 1 ability was a godsend no less than six times over the course of several days. When he went to use his Shortsword, the DM...

    D&D 5E (2014) Just wrapped up four consecutive days of D&D 5th.

Two of us picked up our Starter Sets at a midnight release from our FLGS on Wednesday night, and we downloaded the basic PDFs the next day. We started playing D&D 5th Thursday afternoon, and continued playing Friday, Saturday, and just wrapped up a session today. About 16 hours of actual game...

    D&D 5E (2014) Unconscious During a Short Rest

If a character is at zero hit points, stable, but unconscious when the party decides to take a Short Rest, can that unconscious character spend any remaining Hit Dice to recover Hit Points? Can an Unconscious character be given a Potion of Healing by another character?

    D&D 5E (2014) Read Magic?

Read Magic seems to be missing from the Starter/Basic Iteration of the 5th Edition rules. Does this seem to be by design, or simply an oversight? Was Read Magic a part of the final playtest packet (I can't remember)?

    D&D 5E (2014) Firing Into A Melee

If you look at the pre-gen Ranger in the Starter Set, he needs advantage to use his Sneak Attack with Shortsword or Shortbow. Or, instead of advantage, he needs an enemy to his target within 5' of the target. That kind of made me think that although he didn't get advantage if one of his friends...

D&D 5E (2014) Unexpected but (mostly) awesome new rules in Basic

Read Magic seems to be missing as well.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Basic PDF - 3 MB (They're released!)

Good point. I also noticed Read Magic was missing from the basic PDF. Wonder if that is just something that they will get into more detail about in the PHB.

I also noticed there are no entries for Read Magic or Feather Fall in the Basic PDF.

    D&D 5E (2014) Official D&D Basic Discussion Thread

Does a Fighter get Action Surge IN ADDITION to a normal action AND a possible bonus action? At 5th level, can the Fighter attack twice with his normal action and his Action Surge action?

First impression - seriously: It is strange not to see a FEATHER FALL spell. :)

D&D 5E (2014) Opening Page of the PHB

It was the 'dead eyes' (not skin tone) that made me think he was a construct at first glance. That may just be the size of the picture that doesn't allow me to really make out the detail in the eyes, though.

Agreed. It's ok. I'm definitely not as enamored of this pic as some in this thread seem to be.

    D&D 5E (2014) ... and we have a wizard!

In the playtest, wasn't this feature only for the Evocation specialty? I guess depending on how much you dislike it, you could take the Enchanter or Illusionist and not worry with it.

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Fighter's "Second Wind" ability grant temporary HP instead of regular HP?

Thanks for the response Trevor. Two guys in my longtime D&D group (started with Basic/AD&D in the mid-eighties) really took issue with healing surges in 4E, and have done the same with the fundamentals behind D&D 5th after seeing the Fighter sample character sheet from the Starter Set. That...

    D&D 5E (2014) First Level Proficiency Bonus of +2

I touched on this a bit above, but I am assuming that they didn't do an across-the-board penalty because then everyone would be penalized in skills and saving throws they weren't proficient in - like Perception, Athletics, a Wisdom save, etc. Abilities that "normal characters" could generally...

D&D 5E (2014) Ghost of Dragonspear - Updated to Final Playtest Packet?

Hi folks, My group's DM bought Ghost of Dragonspear Castle today, and mentioned that it had an updated D&D Playtest packet included with it. My question is (and I searched but could not find an answer) - Was the module itself updated with compatibility information from the final playtest...
