Critical Role To Wrap Up Third Campaign, New Exandria Unlimited Miniseries Announced

Kudos to the Critical Role team for popularizing 5e D&D and maintaining control over their own content. I haven't been watching C3 as much as I had C1 and C2, but their content has consistently been high-quality, including the animated show (with a second one on the way). I have a few Critical...

Dragonlance "You walk down the road, party is now level 2."

As others have said above, it depends on the campaign and the DM/players. Personally I enjoy the lower levels and the sense of fragility present there. Many characters can have life-defining moments in those initial clashes with giant rats or skeletons or what have you. I am running an online...

D&D 5E (2024) Deadliest Monsters in the 2025 Monster Manual

Pack Tactics and D&D Deep Dive also had preview vids of the new MM today. Both the Dungeon Dudes and Pack Tactics appreciated the increased toughness and lethality of monsters in the new book.

    D&D 5E (2024) Magic Item Crafting oddities

I would make a broom of flying a Rare item, especially considered in comparison to the other items that grant a fly speed. And I agree that the potion is overvalued; it should be Rare at most (I have a hard time thinking of any potion being worth 20k gp).

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Aberrations & Oozes Video

I think an arch hag could make a good long-term adversary for a campaign, with the final confrontation not coming until the party is equipped to deal with them (maybe after a few teases where the arch hag toys with them a bit, always avoiding a straight-up fight). Or they could first appear as a...

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Stat Block Compilation

I've found WotC's published 5e adventures to be fairly difficult, and deadly in some cases (Icespire Peak, I'm looking at you). For my homebrew campaigns, I usually have five or six players who are good optimizers, so I'm used to having to beef things up well past the guidelines in the books. I...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

I'd like another "Everything" book that has the artificer, more subclasses, and 2024 versions of the playable humanoid species from Volo's Guide. Though I expect WotC will split that into multiple books.

    D&D 5E (2024) Have You Pre-Ordered The 2024 MM?

Pre-ordered the alt-cover and a digital copy for Fantasy Grounds. I've been building a 2024 campaign in Fantasy Grounds over the last few months, just leaving placeholders for the encounters until the MM comes out. I'll probably be at my FLGS to get the hardcover on the early release date, I did...

D&D General Poll: Did you watch the D&D cartoon when it was new?

Yep, watched it and enjoyed it. Bought the DVD set when it came out, but of course it doesn't really hold up. But I have found the callbacks to it in the 2024 books to be fun.

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

I have always seen campaign setting books as sandbox guides for DMs. The 3rd edition Forgotten Realms book was very good for this purpose, with adventure ideas for almost every region, and I wonder if we'll see similar in the new FR book for DMs this year. Both the Starter Set and the Essentials...

    D&D General Best dungeons?

I ran the original Caverns of Thracia several times back in the AD&D days and as mega-dungeons go, it's quite good. The many levels are interconnected in unexpected ways and it's rare for two runs to go exactly the same way. You can easily run a whole campaign there. I bought the 3e conversion...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you do Bastions?

In one of my non-2024 campaigns, my players have a villa with a dozen employees and a ship with a crew of thirty, including five officers/specialists. I laid out the basics (number of retainers needed, their respective roles, monthly payroll, etc.), and told them if they wanted the NPCs to have...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you do Bastions?

I have baked them into the plot of an existing campaign that I've updated to the 2024 rules, just moving a few events around so that the option becomes available as the group reaches 5th level. It's a city campaign with guilds and great houses that the players interact with so the Bastions will...

D&D 5E (2014) What Level is the Party after 56 Sessions?

I checked my records for my online (Fantasy Grounds) weekly games. The first group plays for three hours a week; for their most recent campaigns they were levels 10-11th and 7th respectively as of the start of session 56. Their second campaign is going at a slower pace since it's very RP-heavy...

D&D General I spent how much? How much did you spend in 2024.

I spent $200 buying the 2024 hardcovers and The Shattered Obelisk, and $120 buying the 2024 books in Fantasy Grounds, along with Quests from the Infinite Staircase. I also pay for a room rental at my FLGS for my biweekly Sunday game, so probably just shy of $500 for the year altogether. Given...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Year Wishes For D&D in 2025?

The only thing I'm really looking forward to right now is the new Monster Manual, so we have a complete set of the new rules. I'll probably get the new Forgotten Realms books when they come out, but I'd just as soon have more time to get used to the new rules before they start dropping...

    D&D 5E (2014) Skill Ranking

A lot will depend on the setting. In my current urban-focused campaign, History and Religion get used a lot more than Nature, for example. I find Intimidation and Persuasion to be somewhat redundant, in most instances. Medicine tends to be fairly unnecessary if there is a cleric in the party. I...

D&D General Folks Who Came Back With 5E: Did You Stay with 5E?

I started with Basic and AD&D in the early 80s. Played off and on through college, then stopped for a while. I joined a 3e group for a while in my 30s but found the combat encounters a drag, plus it was a pretty long drive (the host lived a few towns over). I did play over a dozen lengthy...

D&D General Dinosaurs in your campaigns

In my homebrew setting, dinosaurs are found on another continent far from the one where I run most of my campaigns (along with dragonborn and other "animal" humanoids like tabaxi). One of my groups made it over there, and their presence (bolstered a bit from the MM stock versions) really helped...

D&D 5E (2024) Experienced DMs, how useful is the 2024 DMG to you?

As a veteran DM, I read the opening guidance chapters once and will probably never revisit them again. But for a new DM they would be quite useful. As someone who runs games on a VTT, all three core books are essential to every session; having the magic items and various tables ready to go...
