D&D 5E (2014) Mage Hand and Trap Avoidance

Aaand we come back to the idea that maybe limiting Utility cantrips would be a good idea.

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

Considering how plugged into DDB 5e players can get, I'm sure there'll be a big push from them to use Sigil once they see all the neat graphics, making your own character like heroforge etc... the ultimate question is going to be how friendly and versatile it is for DMs to use. At the time that...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Marilith Is Far More Bestial In 2025

Birthright, with some exceptions, didn't have a lot of demons/devils/outsiders like the other settings.

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

It's like Talespire but with DnDB plugged in.

D&D Launches New Eberron-Themed Playtest With Dragonmarked Feats

I like it- set everything up separately, if the GM wants to allow multiples or mix things into their own setting cool, but (IMO) the default shouldn't be a smorgasbord kitchen sink like DnDB allows. I'd rather OK things for players, rather than taking things away from them.

OSR Through Ultan's Door has a Patreon now

Just found the Patreon after reading Through Ultans Door... Jeeze it has some good descriptions.

D&D General Mike Mearls sits down with Ben from Questing Beast

Yup! Shadowdark's is pass-fail iirc. I enjoy DCC's roll-to-cast degrees of success, buuut I prefer either over 5e's system. I didn't discover how much I liked roll-to-cast til I saw DCC, and later Shadowdark solidified it.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Marilith Is Far More Bestial In 2025

I actually never read this one- do you remember which book it was?

D&D 5E (2024) Is Counterspell less frustrating now?

I wonder if older counterspell methods would be worth implementing. If your player really wants to counter a mages spell, they have to ready their action to do so and have an appropriate spell with which to counter. In the current rules it wouldn't work mechanically because it's a reaction to...

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

Perhaps, but when I see gygaxian language I thoroughly enjoy it.

D&D General 5e Ogre stat block

It's probably just some funny formatting from porting it to roll20. Iirc Flee Mortals! Has those 4e-inspired monster types defined at the beginning of the book.

D&D 5E (2014) When do you short rest?

Since playing BG3 Ive thought that if you put a limit on short rests, 2 or 3 per day, people would use them more whether it's an hour or 10 min or whatever. When I worked at a job with limited PTO we always used it up... When I worked at a law firm with unlimited PTO I took off less time than I...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Marilith Is Far More Bestial In 2025

    1. Agreed; ofc one could say "demons, should they even have types if they're the embodiment of chaos?" I don't think they are, though. They're CE, not just C. There's obviously some element of organization with their manifestations. 2. I've used them a bunch. They're pretty nasty. They also...

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

I directly imported Verbobonc into my setting, largely because it's so fun to say. Also, someone mentioned Gygax as a god of luck and trickery, and another name-dropping Xagyg... Sounds like my setting might have a new deity.

D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasting Monsters, Spell Slotlessness, Bonus Actions, and Intent

and an A5e feat chain :'D but yeah I'm on the side of "some things only come with retirement/npc-hood," because there have always been things that the PC's mechanics can't account for.. the classic is "how is the necromancer controlling 200 undead in this dungeon?" Answer for simulationists...

D&D General Dealing with bad luck (From behind the DM screen).

I don't think it helps them, but I can't help but sympathize with them audibly/visually... maybe it'd be better instead to be the eternal optimist, "oh hey I'm sure a good die roll is right around the corner!"

D&D General Dealing with bad luck (From behind the DM screen).

I think the 13th Age 2e Playtest part of OP's post is pretty coincidental. OP could've said "DnD5e," the differences aren't huge as far as them both being d20 fantasy games, though 13th Age wears its heroism on its sleeve. Basically, the dice luck is crappy and how to deal with that? Ugh. I...
