    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Digital Plans To Be Revealed On February 21st

The purpose of the games is not to deliver quality, it's to make sure that people outside of the very niche hobby to tabletop wargaming know what warhammer is. Couple that with a great ruleset like 8th edition and AoS and you have a boom in new adoption by a younger generation, which is exactly...

D&D General Companies Cut Ties With Judges Guild After Owner's Racist Posts

It's unlikely as there is many sources of information that will continue to validate his opinion. You'd have to find a way to get them reading lot of other opinions that first refute their opinion, and then provide alternate ways of interpreting the world. Not an easy task.

    D&D 5E (2014) On meaningless restrictions

raging comment. disparaging comment questioning poster's intelligence. comment about how obviously I'm right. Only recently returned to EnWorld and it's discouraging how frequently discussions go this way. I have sympathy for the moderators.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Digital Plans To Be Revealed On February 21st

I'm skeptical this works for them. Many companies have tried to going into digital games and failed because it's not their core competency and they are not prepared for the massive investment of time and money required to bring out digital games. Not to mention how they can never deliver in the...

    D&D General Multiply Die?

If you're looking to speed up your damage rolls, using the average value provided in the stat block is a great way to go. Rolling d6 x 5 will make extreme results (low or high) in an individual roll much, much more likely. It makes for wild swings of luck that can be really fun for the players...

D&D General Companies Cut Ties With Judges Guild After Owner's Racist Posts

I have a fair collection of old Judge's Guild material and was considering getting the 5e Tegel Manor. Oh well, lots of other IP to support. I just hope it doesn't impact the people who have worked on the newer JG material too badly and they find projects to work on elsewhere. Maybe at some...

D&D 5E (2014) Customizing Backgrounds Core Rule - Public Service Announcement

I'd guess that's an error and it did originally have thievery and poisoner but then they swapped poison out for a gaming kit when they made assassin get poison as a class ability.

Here's a video I like sharing when things like this come up. The internet helps people find suckers.

    D&D 5E (2014) On meaningless restrictions

Which explains why you see class skill restrictions as being meaningless. You don't like niche protection, which is what it enforces for inexperienced players. And for experienced players, they can use background customization to break out of the niche restriction.

    D&D 5E (2014) On meaningless restrictions

I totally agree. My preferred game is actually Fighter, Wizard, Cleric, Rogue. Everyone else is trying to be some mix of those. And I'd not mind just going Fighter, Wizard as fighters can be sneaky and Wizards could have the clerics divine spells if you wanted. Turn undead could become a spell...

Though Elves are the original multi-class, and existed right back in OD&D.

D&D 5E (2014) On whether sorcerers and wizards should be merged or not, (they shouldn't)

The direction of this whole thread makes me happy. Maybe would could all go to the following classes: martial. can be strong and stand ground, or sneaking and stabby. magical. can be innate, granted, or learned. Must choose a primary and secondary school (includes divine). fey. mix-in of...

D&D 5E (2014) On whether sorcerers and wizards should be merged or not, (they shouldn't)

As an aside, is there anyone who can talk to their experience playing a sorcerer? Especially interesting if you played in a party that also had a wizard...

    D&D 5E (2014) Could 5E Use A Branded Magazine In Stores (Again)?

This actually could work, though the price would have to be high. Games Workshop has something like this with the Warhammer 40K Conquest subscription service. Perhaps give you a battle mat, a short adventure, some handouts and a mini.

D&D 5E (2014) On whether sorcerers and wizards should be merged or not, (they shouldn't)

Interestingly I've never run across a sorcerer in our games. I've played a wizard, and in 4e we had a Tiefling Warlock, but I've yet to see anyone want to play a sorcerer. Now my exposure is pretty limited, but the vast potential power of the wizard OD&D. Fighting-man, Magic-User, Cleric. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) On meaningless restrictions

Can you explain why you feel skill restrictions are meaningless? I'd actually say that they lose meaning if you remove the restriction, as then any class build can be good in any skill. And I'd generally make a player justify a change to the rules because in my experience the reason they are...

D&D 5E (2014) African campaign setting, "Wagadu Chronicles" being developed by Twin Drums

So much for my attempt to get the thread back on the rails. My son recently had a class on equality vs equity, after which we had a good discussion about the importance of understanding the difference. I really want to comment further, but since I know it's going to be fruitless, I'll just stop...

D&D 5E (2014) African campaign setting, "Wagadu Chronicles" being developed by Twin Drums

Saw the thread headline; feared what I'd see in the thread. Fears realized. I'm going to do my best to put the thread back on the rails. D&D has had a long tradition of having fantasy analogue tropes of real-world cultures. Getting a well-researched African mythos setting would be a very...

    D&D 5E (2014) On meaningless restrictions

The 4e DM's guide had great advice on house rules. To paraphrase it was: "Clearly Identify what it is you are trying to change with the house rule and why it needs changing. Will the house rule achieve your goal?" I could be reading too much into OP's post, but it reads to me like he'd like to...

    D&D 5E (2014) On meaningless restrictions

Actually, I am. It is the restrictions that determine what is possible in the game world. There are no 'meaningless' restrictions. Each restriction makes the range of possibilities in the game world different. Restricting skill choices changes what a class can be good or bad at in the game...
