    CR of this Encounter

Well, the xp was divided 7 ways. I figure the king and his illithid cleric probably accounted for 1/2 that (CR 20 and 19 respectively). The rest, like I said, it's a converted 2e module, so there is probably some arbitrary amount of xp the party gets for finally destroying the city. Knowing...

    CR of this Encounter

Including a bonus for basically breaking the backbone of the city, I think lvl 14 chars got like 16,900, lvl 13 got 20,000, and the one lvl 12 (the druid, who died) got something like 24,000. I was a little miffed overall, since my dwarven cleric started the palace at 15th level, and now...

    CR of this Encounter

Well, the encounter is over. For those who suggested we attack the temple, our DM made it very clear that Disentigrate had no effect, Transmute Rock to Mud had no effect, summoning an elder earth elemental to pound on the walls had no effect. After a while I just threw up my hands and shouted...

    CR of this Encounter

Party compostion is Dwarf Cleric of Peleor 14, Dwarf Fi 11/Ranger 1/Horiz Walker1, Dwarf Fi 7/Dwarven Defender 7, Human Cleric of Flarnighan 13, Aasimar Druid 12, Elf Fi4/Brd3/Arcane Archer 7, and Human Sorceror 14. So as you can see, no spells effectively cripples half our team.

    CR of this Encounter

Yes, this IS a conversion of Nights Below. The DM is used to do 2nd, so I think he just kept the levels straight. I also think he might have misread the part about "non-associated class levels" adding 1/2 CR. I don't know any precise levels, I'm guessing off of spells I've seen cast, and...

    CR of this Encounter

Just curious what experienced DMs think of this encounter: our group of 7 lvl 13-14 pcs have to fight the king-priest and his goons in their temple. When we walk into the temple, each pc is hit with a targeted greater dispelling at caster level 15. Any spell we cast while inside the temple is...

    D&D 3.x Spell/Rule Changes from 3.0 to 3.5 -- How did we survive 3.0?

How about the cheese pizza with extra cheese, HARM. And actually I can't imagine playing 3.5 with the unerrataed gate or shapechange. 2xHD just allowed some insanity.

    More killer spell combos

Our party bard has often teamed up slow with grease for much uberness, especially when it's a low-dex or low reflex save character.

A Role Players Guide to Getting Chicks/Dudes: Pick-up lines?

"I don't need a 10' pole on my equipment list if you know what I mean..." "Baby, you must be able to charm person at will" "Wanna help write some add-ons to the book of erotic fantasy?" "Don't worry baby, I've got Mordekein's Lubrication memorized.

    Bad House Rules

Sorry, I just had to do this. "The Ravagers of Erythnuul will take your family, your property, and your worthless life..... but they won't take Imperial Gold Coins. The new Garl Glittergoldcard.... it's everywhere you want to be"

    D&D 3.x Celestial Fury 3.5

Ahh, I remember getting CF back in Baldur's Gate 2. I'd say let it have a "sound burst" kind of effect when drawn, do 1d8 damage in 10' radius, with stun for 1 round and deafness for 1d4 rounds, fort save to negate blindness and deafness. For the other effect, I'd have it duplicate a control...

    Beholder's Eye Rays and SR

So for a typical pc, that would be 10 + CHA, correct? Since all the core races have no racial HD. But a 40HD dragon with 20HD of Dragon and 20 levels of sorceror would use 10 + 10(1/2 of dragons 20 racial HD) + CHA.

Ioun Stones: How many can you have at once?

I think Thanee was remarking more upon how insanely easy it is to break ioun stones.. not to mention they are very prominent to anyone looking. If I was fighting a BBEG with a bunch of stones, I might just shatter a few to soften him up.

    PrC Assassin and silent spells

This was covered earlier. 'As a bard' is meant to mean 'spontaneously' this was poor wording choice, they should have said 'as a sorceror'. Assassains can cast silent spells.

    High LA abilities

Yes, Bob the beholder and Jake to Bodak would like +20 CHA also. "What's that shaggy, +10 to the DC's of their spell-like abilities, ruh-roh!!" +20 to any stat is exteremely powerful (Unless it's like +20 to the int of an ettin). I think the elder stone giant's array is low because a) He's...

    Two Weapon Fighting question

And it should be noted also I think, that if he dropped the ogre with that first attack at -2, he still has the option to use the 'move-attack' cycle, he hasn't committed himself to a full attack.

D&D Miniatures -Countersong vs. Commander Effect

I couldn't really say for the first part. I'd say if you're trying to be realistic, the character stops singing, drops dead, his soul departs, and then the reanimation effect takes place, but I don't play minis, so I don't know. For the second part, definitely yes. Hold monster is a much...

    Beholder's Eye Rays and SR

Was it ever decided what the DC for a shapechanged PC's beholder eye rays would be. I know for the beholder it's 10+1/2HD + CHA mod. So what is it for the player, 10 + CHA, or 10 + 1/2 (pc's HD) + CHA? To be honest, one seems like it wouldn't make a difference, and the other seems too powerful.

    Grappling and Multiple Attacks

Well, attacking at -4 isn't actually an opposed grapple check, you just roll to hit with a -4 penalty b/c you're grappling with the person. An opposed grapple check denotes you and your opponent rolling off against each other. So our next question: Tyrannosaurus makes 2 opposed grapple checks...

    Grappling and Multiple Attacks

But just so we're clear in this thread, the tyrannosaurus with a +13 BAB would get 3 opposed grapple checks if he spent his entire round grappling, yes?
