The Dilemma of the Simple RPG

Got a cite for that? While 5e may not be 3.X/Pathfinder complex, its hardly 'simple' and I wouldn't put it at the same complexity level of Savage Worlds either. Thats junk. Go to GenCon, most everyone will be there except maybe WotC, and ask them point blank.... "are you trying to scare...

The Dilemma of the Simple RPG

Thats not a different approach. As pointed out there are plenty of systems out there that are lighter to almost nonexistent as far as rules goes. If they didn't, then they were fools. 5e may have less rules that 3.X or 4e, but it was at its core another money making...

The Dilemma of the Simple RPG

Just because someone isn't "mr. all I want to do is write a novel, or be an actor" does not mean that all they want to do is "win" at RPGs. People can play RPGs for many reasons, with many different styles (even at the same table), and all equally enjoy the time spent.

The Dilemma of the Simple RPG

So just because people are lazy we need to dumb down a game? Maybe RPGs don't need to be mass-market, maybe they are, and should be, just a niche game. Not everything needs to have mass appeal.

A Few More Tidbits About D&D Beyond From The Developer

Those are work arounds because of an issue with the actual rules. The Skilled Feat you have a point, however Feats are an optional rule. Valid point. HeroLab lets you do this - create an adjustment on the character. Or you can probably use the Editor to produce a downtime project that...

A Few More Tidbits About D&D Beyond From The Developer

rotfl. someone failed their UX roll. oh yeah, in 5e, you can't learn a new skill that you didn't start with...

    CONAN Is Finally Here!

Not really given it a lot of though. But Mongoose uses the old 3.X x4 skill points at first level. I'd think about either removing that and replacing it with a system in this game to make up make background, where you are from, caste, etc. have some input into the character instead of just on...

    CONAN Is Finally Here!

I have no issue with the doom pool :) Here is my crib of my house rules thus far... Attributes. OMG... let's roll Strength and Health into one blob. But lets split out Agility and Coordination. Yeah, makes sense... really, yeah. I get it, there is a fine line between too many attributes or...

    CONAN Is Finally Here!

With that in mind... the character creation system I think is interesting. Traveller-esque, but still kinda limiting IMO for what it was. If anything from it, other than purloining adventures to use, that might be what I'd consider.

    CONAN Is Finally Here!

Yes, well if the players aren't basing character designs on what they as players know vs what the character knows, then whether DOOM pool is visible or not is not an issue. :) But it also works inversely. Sometimes players forget (usually because of delays between games) important points, etc...

    CONAN Is Finally Here!

Yes and yes. And I do believe all the versions of the DMG have said roughly the same thing.

    CONAN Is Finally Here!

Huh? There is some truth to the adjudication argument. I try to keep things as level as possible. However, RPG is a collective story telling session. People keep saying it is, but its a GAME otherwise the name would be Role Playing Story Telling. I think people get way to caught up in...

    CONAN Is Finally Here!

I'm up to 10 house rules, and thats just in the character building section. And RPGs are a game, not a story telling sitaround. GAME. So if you have to fudge things just to make the results tell the story you want, instead of finding the story that comes out of the good and bad.. um, yeah.

Have You played In An Official D&D Adventurer's League Event?

Or form a group at another venue... even if its not a FLGS.

Have You played In An Official D&D Adventurer's League Event?

Yes, that is the same and has been the same over the years of organized play. As other people said, often it is a good way to meet gamers you may not have gotten to meet - that sometimes leads to private games, or long running campaigns, etc. spawning off from there. I've met some players that...

Have You played In An Official D&D Adventurer's League Event?

It doesn't have to be at a FLGS... you can do it pretty much anywhere. Around here, lucky I understand, there is at least three I know of at an FLGS, then a couple that general are hosted at restaurants.
