Minor 5th Edition Updates for Monday, 16 January, 2012

Well D&D has never been a rules-light game by any stretch of the imagination. Yeah, sorry. Unfortunately that's all plain marketing speak. If they are able to back that up, with a useable system that is playable, then my hat would be off to them. I would tend to agree with you, but in...

Minor 5th Edition Updates for Monday, 16 January, 2012

Well IMO that is more an issue with the DM than with the game. We do out of box type stuff in both the game I've run and games I've been in under 3X and Pathfinder without any issue. Not sure that this is more or less of a problem in any edition (or other game system even).

Minor 5th Edition Updates for Monday, 16 January, 2012

But that is another problem in its own right. Essentially what you are talking about is another set of rules that has nothing to really do with any of the previous sets. From reading Monte, et al. I haven't got the feeling that this is the direction they are headed in. I'm not sure it'd be a...

Minor 5th Edition Updates for Monday, 16 January, 2012

See I disagree here, I just don't see 4e as "True D&D". There was just a fundamental shift in the game which makes it different - not even touching the merits of game on its own. It's like going from D&D to say Tunnels and Trolls, or Hackmaster. Actually more so. The fluff isn't the issue...

Minor 5th Edition Updates for Monday, 16 January, 2012

Well you can be just as tactical in all the editions; I've just seen that people don't really use them very much. 1e in the core books didn't have skills, but the Dungeoneer's Survival Guide and Wilderness Survival Guide actually did bring skills to the 1e table Nonetheless, what you...

Minor 5th Edition Updates for Monday, 16 January, 2012

Yeah, did that once or twice back in the day. But I've always found even simple maps help keep down arguments about who is where, what monster can attack who, etc. :)

Minor 5th Edition Updates for Monday, 16 January, 2012

I'm a 1E gronard, and guess what? I've been drawing out and using maps and minis since 1980! That's through 1e, 2e, 3e and 3.5e. I guess I'm still having a problem seeing how this kitchen sink is going to work. 1e->3.5e there are fairly common similiarities; i.e. attack or use a spell and/or...

Fortress America: When Gaming and Politics Collide

Being an American, I actually don't find the initial wording that inflammatory. FFG is based in the US, so freedom of speech, idea, etc. is all well and good. It is just a game. And frankly there is a lot of sci-fi, especially military stuff, that has been far worse. However, I do agree...

    D&D Experience: January 26th-29th, 2012

Forte Wayne, Indianapolis? Really, cool... what teleportation device do you use to get there?

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Monte Cook working on D&D 5th Edition?

Too bad 4E is more complex than 3.XE, heck even than 1E and 2E (yes, I've played them all and tons of other systems, no I don't want to argue with you about it). And yes, Pathfinder is heir to D&D because of the iconic D&D feel that it has, not to mention say magic system, that 4E. That is not...

4 Hours w/RSD - Introducing Undermountain (Ryan Dancey)

Link to the wiki? I'm curious as to your approach/thoughts on the "not treating spells like resources".

    Settings...

To clarify my original post, I was looking for settings sources for 3.X, not just an idea. Yes, thats what I had in mind especially since there are such things in the realms anyways.

    Settings...

Not sure if this is best place to post, but since there options are limited for 3.5... :) I'm looking for a setting to be used in a setting. I know that sounds odd, but I've tired of the group's current setting (FR) but they also don't really want to stray too far from that "world". So was...

Lone Wolf sends Cease & Desist letters to anyone using the term 'Army Builder'

I believe (and I'm sure to be corrected if I'm wrong) the thread boils down to LoneWolf has a registered trademark on "Army Builder" (R) so using it in a product name (book, software, whatever) would violate that trademark. However, while using "army builder" as a general phrase is improper, it...

Not an unreasonable request. Perhaps its best to contact Morris directly?

Lone Wolf sends Cease & Desist letters to anyone using the term 'Army Builder'

Won't be buying anything [not that their character builder, is that trademarked by them yet?!?! ;), is any good anyways] again. Besides their licensing is horrific. "Army Builder (R)" is really a bad trademark as its two generic words slapped together, but alas its sorta like the patents...
